Want Opinions from Nautilus Players

I play a lot more Nautilus than any other champion and I think he is in a pretty good place right now balance wise, his damage has been consistently nerfed throughout the last year to the point where his identity is tanky with a ton of cc and practically no offense. He has good windows of strength and weakness (he is pretty weak when his q and e are down and gets bullied.)

However, I find an issue with the speed of his ultimate. Unlike other tanks/initiators with a cc ultimate (vi, warwick, malphite), Nautilus' ultimate takes a VERY long time to land on his target. Often times, the enemy will outrun the ultimate to the point where you can no longer follow up because the enemy has run back under tower or made so much distance between you that slow Nautilus can't catch up. I feel like this just takes a lot of the flow off his combo as it makes using it more awkward than it should be. Thoughts?

The difference between Nautilus and the examples you mentioned is: Vi/WW/Mal all put themselves at risk when they ult. Nautilus doesn't. It is point and click CC from range. The travel time seems a fair trade-off when you consider the safety he has using it.

I would argue that Nautilus would rather put himself at risk so using it from far away is actually somewhat of a liability for him. He is a tank and a great initiator with hook so it does him little good to get a knockup on the backline if he can't follow through.

Its good most of the time, but I keep forgetting you have to sit for a full second while casting to get it going, which makes teamfighting and peeling very difficult

I honestly like the current speed. Like Nautilus, it's slow and telegraphed but devastating and unstoppable. It's an very powerful ultimate which may be used to interrupt multiple targets and catch-out an enemy to focus. It's devastating when the enemy is clustered and you target someone in the back.

Even if the targeted enemy champion get out of range for follow-up, they have still been taken out of the fight. It did it's purpose of zoning them and interrupting anyone it passed through.

The big difference between Nautilus' ultimate and those of Vi, Warwick, and Malphite is proximity. Nautilus' ultimate doesn't take him to the target, so he's considerably safer using it in teamfights; he's not forced to jump into the middle of the enemy team using it. He can easily use his ultimate to lockdown an enemy carry for his divers to kill and staying back to peel for his carries.

I haven't run into problems with Naut's ult unless I cast it from max range when the enemy still has the chance to escape - which I feel is a mistake. Unless you're intentionally trying to zone someone out.

But keep in mind that the closer you are, the faster it hits. My combo is usually QEW (hook, slow, auto attack) and then ult when they are starting to run/dash away. Alternatively, ult at short/medium range, then follow up with a guaranteed hook combo. This rarely fails unless you are giving them too much distance to work with.
