On spamming the Missing ping

TL;DR - Can we lower the number of Missing pings it takes to trigger the spam lock so that we can reduce cases of players using the Missing ping to harass other players? Maybe down to 2?

I think in at least 1 game, any given day, I encounter at least 1 player that abuses the Missing ping to harass other players by spamming it on the player after they mess up or when they are doing something that the ping user doesn't enjoy or agree with.

That ping is for calling "Missing" or showing if you think objectives are taken/gone.

I understand some people like to spam it in lane to really say "HEY THIS LANE IS MISSING!!!". But in most cases I see this, it's because teammates say "ping your missings" or "follow your lanes", so then the addressed player will spam it as a form of revenge to say "HEY I'VE PINGED THIS 7 TIMES, HOPE YOU'RE NOT SO BLIND THAT YOU MISS 7 OF THEM", and that's just overkill.

I feel as though toxic people use the ping system to harass others instead of using the chat system, so that the harassment isn't "trackable" in the Tribunal (whenever it comes up) or in Reform Cards, where only the chat logs are provided.

In any case, there are minimal cases in which spamming the Missing ping is actually beneficial. The other pings have legitimate "spam" uses because there are a variety of map locations that they belong in. The Missing ping belongs in lane or Dragon/Baron, not on your fellow teammates.

Can we reduce the amount of Missing pings it takes to trigger the spam lock?

I am an offender. I spam it about 5 times whenever I see anything. Trundle

Seriously though, people in low elo ranked games are blind and deaf. It requires lots of loud sounds to make them pay attention.

I don't understand why people are downvoting you, ping spam is a real annoying issue and I encounter it at minimum every 1 in 5 games.

There is never a reason to ping more than 3 times. Usually 2 is plenty.

I know exactly what you mean by toxic people using the ping system to harass other players. Once a ping spamming player determines they think you're a noob, or they become mad at you for some reason, they abuse the hell out of their pings all on you.

Games need to track amount of pings.. because I have reported at least 5 players who were clearly abusing the ping feature to harass people, as spamming. But since it doesn't track amount of pings, they probably will continue their ping spamming unpunished.

And I see this response every time this comes up 'Well you were ignoring my pings so I had to ping a lot' and typically these are the type of people who will spam 'fall back' on your face when you're already running away.

  • If a player doesn't respond to your ping, sure ping a couple times, but if they're ignoring your pings every time, then spamming the hell out of the map with your pings DOESN'T HELP , IT HURTS YOUR TEAM. IT DISTRACTS EVERYONE.

But back to the main point - I don't think the ping max should be lowered (much), but I do think games should track ping count and have an option for reporting ping spamming

Every time you ping it's tracked on the chat log. So if anyone is pinging you to death just report them at the end.

I vote no.. why? Because a lot of people need more than 1-2 missing pings to actually register that sm1 is missing... Infact even then sometimes it doesn't work. The Fallback/Caution pings are much more pronounce.
