What I miss the most about Rengar (Not Oneshots)

His early game. Rengar was always known as a kind of farm till 6 kind of champion, but that wasn't necessarily true. Sure, his ganks were shitty on paper. He didn't have any kind of gapcloser at all unless he was in a brush, which was very situational. He basically couldn't gank a lane unless he has his empowered bola and the enemy was super pushed up so he could get a jump. But something that people often forget, is that Rengar was one hell of a duelist. In fact, I'd say that he was the best duelist in the jungle. His Q's would deal so much damage that no one could fight you. But even this was limited. Because of his old ferocity system, if he had his ferocity up he was a monster, but if he only had one or no ferocity, then he could barely fight you, because it took way too long for him to get to his emp spell. Basically, he really lived up to his hunter-fighter theme of preparing for a fight, searching for the perfect opportunity, and pouncing on it. Rengar's lane ganks were some of the strongest in the game. He had the perfect combination of damage and cc to just melt you, but you had to be pushed in, and close enough to a brush for him to jump at you. And even then, you were pushed in. The tower was only so far away.

New Rengar, on release, had this same kind of gameplay. Even with his clunky Q, even with his wierd ferocity, I still enjoyed him. Because he could still do shit. He was still an insane duelist, he was still a very situational ganker (even more so, because his new ferocity system absolutely required him to come out of a bush for a gank). But I knew that a kit like his wouldn't last for long. He had all of the good things of old Rengar, the insane early damage, but he also had an insane escape, AOE damage, and less of a reliance on properly managing ferocity. Because of his AOE Q, his clears became way too powerful, and the base damages on his Q were nerfed, and nerfed, and nerfed. His early game fighting turned from very strong, to absolutely shitty. Rengar couldn't kill anyone now, his damage is pitiful. His clearing got gutted, it's now super slow and leaves Rengar extremely unhealthy in the jungle, unfit for any kind of early ganks. His ferocity system further weakens his early game, since now he has to jump out of a bush to get you or else he will lose out on his critical ferocity stack. All in all, the only thing new Rengar had going for him was his Q damage. Now that its gone, his early game is absolutely trash. And in a meta where if your jungler doesn't have early pressure than you lose. But even other junglers with weak early games, like Yi, at least they have a late game to look forwards to. Rengar's game can be described as a Renekton with a shitty early game. Your mid game is solid, but late game you fall off like, well, a Renekton. Carries just get more damage, lifesteal, and defensive items like GA, and now Rengar can't do his job at all.

I think what ended up gutting Rengar is his Bonetooth passive. it just makes him far too snowbally to be on his kit and retain his early game power; 20% bonus ad with all 5 stacks is ludicrous. Personally I want them to completely remove it and put that power else where in his kit.

The only part I agree with is too strong on release and falls off hard lategame.

Rengar's clears are perfectly fine, there's only a single spot of trouble which is during his second camp, and a potion mostly takes care of it.

His early dueling is still strong, if not incredibly strong, as his Q does a lot of damage if it hits both times, as it's an auto attack reset with 50 base damage and 40% bonus AD ratio. Garen's Q does a lot of damage early game, and Rengar's Q does as much damage, as the 20 additional base damage making up for Garen's extra 40% base AD scaling (they both get 40% bonus AD scaling, I'm splitting Garen's into 40% bonus + 40% base).

Rengar's Q still has a static 4 second cooldown. It starts with 50 base damage and gets 40 more per level, as well as a 40% bonus AD ratio and 20% more per level, if you're skilled enough to land both of them. His ferocity empowered Savagery has the hands down best bonus AD ratio in the game, along with the best base damage on a basic ability. (perhaps outscaled a bit at lvl 9 where some abilities are getting their rank 5's, I know some mage abilities have 320 base damage, but it outscales after that).

Rengar is still a great duelist. I don't know how many times I've been walking down the river, looking at toplane, for Rengar to jump out and melt my healthbar in 2 seconds. The empowered AD and attack speed may have made him godly before, but he's still above average.
