If Nasus were nerfed such that he had to build Fighter items instead of Pure Tank, would he work?

It's just kind of a thought running through my head after being annoyed to death by having to deal with Nasus. Being able to build full tank items with no damage effects and still burst like an assassin gets really annoying to me, and I was wondering if, hypothetically, if his scalings were adjusted so that he needed to build squishier, favoring Fighter items or even some Marksmen items to gain a mixture of offense and defense instead of purely defensive items, would he still work as a champion?

I think he represents and older time for League when the kits were so simplified that infinite scaling was a good idea, just look at viegar.

Yeah thats how I feel about him and Morde. They benefit from huge damage potential since they come from the low-mobility era.

It would be pretty dangerous for him.

Nasus relies on the fact he can go nuts with his Q, and not have to worry about building damage to make up for it.

No. He's an immobile champion with no hard CC and no mobility at ALL: no speed boosts, dashes, blinks, or teleports. He has to offer something uniquely strong to justify even picking him as he's incredibly easily kited and does nothing unless in melee range. The only way to make forcing him to build fighter would work is if he was given extremely strong innate defence, some form of mobility, or higher damage.

So if, say, his Q hit harder but he was squishier and had to engage wisely to utilize it, instead of the current brute-force "eat their damage and push on" method?

His Q would have to approach one shot territory to work. He already has no engage potential and is a glorified meatshield in teamfights meaning he usually doesn't get to Q anything except the tank. The problem is currently Nasus required a lot of farm in laning, and then to push his 20-30 minutes 1-3 item power spike before the enemies have enough Cdr and slows to keep him from ever touching anything. He's amazing mid game when tanks aren't that tanky and adcs don't have enough peel/damage to kite and murder him, but he pays by having almost no early game and having a rather weak lategame. Him being squishier makes his early game and late game even weaker and somewhat weakens his mid game, while more damage slightly buffs his midgame and doesn't change his early or late game (early he just tries to survive, late he's only reliably able to hit the tank so gaining 100 damage to the tank doesn't change anything for him).

So long as he lacks tools to actually engage effectively with, he will need to be tanky. If he is forced to be squishy, he will need to do unstoppable amounts of damage in melee range. That is probably not a good direction to take him in.

at late game:

Nasus builds tanky to deal dmg with an stacked Q on the other hand Sion is the opposite he might build some dmg because he get free HP stacking at late game

they already did. not his stack. but his E used to do % health damage. now it does little flat damage so he used to be good AP but now he just doesn't work. he has the lifsteal thing going on but he has no steroid so just like every ad with no aa steroid outside assassins. they will only be good as a tank late game
