So I'm watching the progress on the Pool Party rewards, and getting a bit mad at how it was setup.

With two days left to farm points on the event and still only halfway to the top reward, I'm kind of irritated at how the earning of points was set up.

You do not earn points by simply grouping up and participating in the event. According to the Pool Party event page, groups of 5 only earn points when they WIN. So 50% of the people grouping up and playing in 5s to contribute to the event are contributing NOTHING because every 5 man that loses their game provides zero progress to unlocking the reward tiers. A lesser contribution for losing teams, even just 1 point, would at LEAST let us feel like we're helping push towards the top prizes, but nope. Half of the people playing the event aren't doing a damn thing to unlock rewards.

And that 50/50 success rate is the only way to contribute through gameplay. The other two options require spending real money to contribute points. And be honest, how many people are going to do that? How many people are going to spend their hard earned money to contribute towards prize tiers that may or may not even happen, when they could just buy Pool Party Mundo after the skins release and be guaranteed to get it? Except for the icon and mystery champion, every other tier is a temporary reward. Who is going to spend their real world money for a prize like Pool Party Minions that only lasts for the week of the event?

Really, it's gating the biggest point contributions behind real money that irritates me. Why not reward players for competing and grouping and PLAYING the game? Why create an event that's built and designed to milk more money out of the playerbase? In events gone past the icons and the special minions would have simply been rolled out as part of the event. Now it's all gated behind either real money or a contribution method with a 50% failure rate.

The whole thing is feeling like a big tease. -_-

Yeah... they want us to gift more, they dont give a single shit if we group as 5 and play. They want the money man, all the money.

GigglingAngel6/20/2015, 6:35:42 PM49 votes

The worst best part about this event is that they had it run during E3 week, so there never was a chance in hell for us to get the main prize.

It's rather stupid.

Riot, for all that I like about them, has almost never chosen to be charitable toward their playerbase.

Look at the state of Runes, Rune Pages, and Champion IP prices, which are extremely gating to new players and require, literally, months of grinding to achieve.

Look at the recent Gromp icon, which is really no different from, say, the already free wolf icon.

Look at the chroma packs (and the champion mastery system), which are for some reason grouped in threes and (as I understand) are essentially achievable with 30 minutes in photoshop.

Look at the removal of IP sales on champions years ago.

Look at the Esports Icons, which are way more about supporting the teams than supporting Riot itself.

When a company does as well as Riot does, they often give back to the community with free gifts. Any one of these (relatively meager) things I've listed could have been structured to be more easily accessible as rewards for player dedication and support.

I've received a free skin, which was great. And I have received icons from events, which were cute.

While I appreciate these; while I am not, in fact, entitled to free rewards ever; I am much more likely to care about a game if I'm given rewards for simply playing. There is a huge difference between something I can buy, and something I can earn. And 99 times out of 100, Riot will make you pay instead of play for the kind of incentives we'd like (skins in particular).

This is why I like Pool Party so much in theory, but in reality, the execution is extremely stacked against actually earning rewards. And this, unfortunately, is no surprise at all.

Well,I saw a red post saying they were still new at doing events like these & that they still have much to learn. I agree that those 5 man premade who loses should still contribute some points rather than just the winners. If someone manage to lose all their premaded games throughout the event & ended up contributing no points, then they would unfortunately be inegilible for the rewards even though they tried.I don't know if that player is out there & I hope there won't be because that is just a giant "Fuck You" to the player. There definitely should have been some more ways to contribute without spending money or winning a game.

PopePancake6/20/2015, 7:10:52 PM10 votes

Riot didn't exactly pick a good time to do this event. 1st. E3 was happening, and people are either at it, or were watching it. 2nd. Steams summer sale was going on, and people either didn't have money to help the event, or were too busy playing their new game. I mean, i like what riot's doing, but i feel the timing was a little bad.

LICENSED HOOKER6/20/2015, 5:43:36 PM9 votes

The whole thing is $$$ If they really actually wanted to give us a skin, they would + they would let us get those bonuses for premade 5's by itself.

HadesBlades6/20/2015, 7:32:24 PM8 votes

This honestly could have been a super fun event if they gave the losing team, 2 points and the winning team 5. With the summer sales and E3 yes it would make it difficult, but even if you lose a game as a 5 pre-made that is still about half of what the winners got, which is still pretty big contribution. I don't mind gifting a few friends, and playing premades, but 55million points was far too much. Considering people play ranked as their main objective to get better, and that all these other events around us are going on, this whole event was tilted in a way that the last and final goal was not actual possibility :/ . I really enjoy the event don't get me wrong (first one :D) but I don't know the dream seems so hard to achieve especially with China not participating.

Ice Cold Waz6/20/2015, 7:05:23 PM6 votes

I completely agree with this and this is why I've disliked it from the beginning. I was under the impression that when we lost we still got 5 points. I played five ARAMs with premades and lost them all and was like oh we still got points. When I found out we didn't get points I was so like so I just wasted 2-3 hours and because I never won I'm still not included in the rewards.

Finally I just gave a mystery skin to someone after a game who gave one back to me to get included in the event.

Well, in theory if 5 man team loses then other 5 man team wins... So the losers do contribute

ElJanitorFrank6/21/2015, 4:05:08 AM5 votes

You know, they could have just NOT done this and NOT given everybody who plays the game free prizes.

Singady6/20/2015, 6:24:10 PM5 votes

I guess it may be because i've actually met some really cool people because of it, but I have to disagree with you.

I believe riot's trying to actually bring the comminity closer together and reward you because of it. If they REALLY wanted to scam us off with skin sales and gifting, there are a lot worse(and more effective) ways to do it then that.

Wickedfates6/20/2015, 6:52:55 PM4 votes

they are the ones with the data on how many gifts are given regularly, how many premade 5's win a game in a week and in the end riot is the one telling us how full that lil bar gets every day, so if they want it to say full at the end it will

who has any info to disagree with where it ends up?

Juicy86/21/2015, 7:24:27 PM4 votes

You guys are focusing too much about the prizes. Just play the game.

Krigjer6/21/2015, 7:42:07 PM3 votes

A friend wanted to trade skins to contribute to the point pool. I turned him down quick, and this is why.

I read that they set the points so high because they were testing the waters to see what the community could realistically reach. The oceanic servers hit their point ceilings in very little time, so they upped the amount this time around.

The Loveless6/20/2015, 10:14:20 PM3 votes

I really wanted the 35 mil reward :-/

1000 rp never forget

Wukongz6/21/2015, 9:47:03 AM3 votes

You see, you are exactly what's wrong with this community.

Riot are already loaded. The cash they earn from this wouldn't make such a huge difference.

No one is forcing you to play this game. No one is forcing you to buy skins and gifts if you don't like it.

It's a fun event meant to bring people together and play as a team without taking the game so seriously. It's really only your problem that you want the Party Mundo for free so badly that you view this as a "win grind fest" instead of a "pool party event".

ModKnightsKemplar6/21/2015, 2:58:01 PM3 votes

Haha man, the entire thing is for free... just enjoy the rewards we do get, and spend some time getting some sunshine today.

FluxBound6/21/2015, 6:33:32 AM2 votes

Pretty much all NA players got cheated because as mentioned by a Rioter, OcE server got Ocean Week, apparently much easier than this mountain climb. They got free stuff, and so will the other servers since we're the unlucky guinea pigs that they failed on

AshBlakeNeo6/21/2015, 7:37:43 AM2 votes

when is the pool party end? can anyone tell me about that please

TacoKench6/21/2015, 2:07:00 AM2 votes

calm down. riot tryng their best on making the game more fun everytime and ppl dont see this and they are just complaining. i mean, u have a point but, think about it,

Ale non è male6/21/2015, 10:50:19 AM2 votes

P.S. I just noticed that NA community organization was FAR FAR worse than EUW and EUNE one in this aspect. In EU forum there was these two threads made by a Wrenchman, Eambo, that explained clearly how to join chats for getting points

This is the thread for EUW (there is also one for EUNE who has more or less the same info, it is redundant to link both)

http://boards.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/team-recruitment-en/Fjf25Eho-euw-pool-party-recruitment-thread-and-chat-room

If you go on NA Team Recruitment forum you don't find a well explained thread on how to find people to play together. Heck, you don't find anything there of any help. I suspect that if someone will give us information about how the various regions were contributing by collecting points during the entire initiative, NA will end up being one of the worst regions involved in points collected/number of players active on the server/number of games played during the week ratio because NA community did not receive any help on how to organize theirselves to get premade teams and collect points

Lumilifalor6/21/2015, 1:02:34 PM2 votes

well.. its possible we might hit like tier 5. its possible by far if we do. problem comes down to pfathers day. come on rito.

Dr Poro6/20/2015, 8:19:01 PM2 votes

If you queue up 5 man premade, you always face another 5 man premade. This means that whenever you queue up 5 man premade you ALWAYS ensure 5 points to be gained. The thing is that you need 10 players for these 5 points rather than 5 players. But everytime you queue up, you DO contribute half a point to the community! (5 points per game, divided by 10 players)

JimmyNtheKudos6/21/2015, 7:04:54 PM2 votes

From the moment I saw how points were earned I pretty much had the same thought

Budupops6/21/2015, 3:50:13 AM2 votes

You think riot is going to give out free money?

DynamiteGazelle6/21/2015, 4:15:11 AM2 votes

I think the biggest problem is there is no visibility for the event. It's not on the pre-login launcher, the login screen, and on the client it only has a small box since river king was announced. Even on the website it doesn't have a very noticeable spot on the main page.

Also, they didn't actually release the pool party skins alongside the event!!!!! Whaaat???

This is a global event! They should go out of their way to make damn sure everyone knows about it!
