How would you feel if keystones were removed or severly nerfed?

Up vote for awareness if you would like, just wanna see what general opinions of keystones are.

Honestly, I would prefer they be removed.

They have increased damage dealt rather severely (especially when combined with the damage amplification in Cunning and Ferocity).

Hell, they are one of the main contributes behind so many assassins building defensive items last season (i.e. Ekko, Akali, Yasuo, Master Yi). Masteries would generally provide enough damage that:

  • They could kill squishy targets with fewer offensive items
  • They needed defensive items to survive long enough to get their damage off

I miss the mastery trees of S5. While the Utility tree had issues, the offensive and defensive tree were rather well matched for strength.

In comparison, S6 had two offensive trees and a weaker defensive tree throughout the game.

I have to bring up the fact that itemization has also changed too though. It is much harder to achieve 1000 AP on mages or 400 AD on adc's. I kind of miss that and wish that we could have more AP and AD in the game. It made it feel more rewarding when you finally got a Rabadon's to see your AP to spike to 1000.

I think the game could be more easily balanced without them. The old end of tree masteries were boring, but at least they didn't cause so many balance nightmares. If they are staying they need to look at the keystones like Windspeakers and make them like that. They should all have specific types of things they're good at, not just be extremely general like Thunderlord's.

I liked S5 mastery style, better, but this has to do not with power of keystones, but with lack of meaningful choices on a lot of champions. For many of them there is a no-brainer best keystone (currently colossus on tanks, deathfire on karthus, etc), and few choices to make in the tree as well, due to how rigid it is (if prerequisites were S5-style, where you had to have at least X points in lower levels before going to higher level of mastery, but could assign more points to a level if you wanted to, I'd like it much better).

In season 5, by contrast, there were a lot of meaningful (though small) choices to be made in mastery setup, so I enjoyed it much better.

I'm still of the opinion that the mastery system should be completely overhauled. Give us ~10 powerful options in each category and let players pick exactly three. We already have Runes for small stat boosts, we don't need Masteries to be providing the same sorts of benefits. There should be as little overlap between Runes and Masteries as possible.

I think that the only keystone that needs to be changed is Colossus and they are already nerfing that. All the other keystones are niche/balanced.

Lol no. Other keystones tend to be the reason CoC even needs to exist.

In my opinion, the ones that are here are balanced. Although some need to be buff/changed and there needs to be more of them, some champs/builds have no options except to go with a neutral keystone like Stormraiders.

My full list of proposed changes.

  • Buff Grasp of the Undying so it isn't near invisible in comparison to other keystones.
  • Make Warlords heals only proc if you are >50% hp, so no bonuses are received if you already outtraded your enemy
  • Add a defensive mastery for tanks without hard CC
  • Add a defensive mastery for mages (something to do with mana)

All in all i think keystones could be a great thing if implemented better, make the game more dynamic

Key stones are not over powered - they are just busted the way they work. The Idea is to give every champ alittle gimmick they can play with, that influence their gameplay a little without fundamentaly changing it while rewarding players who use them smart.

However.... they are affecting each Champion different and that's unhealthy/ leads to balance problems - additionally all the new masteries added so much unecessary DMG to the whole roaster, creating some pretty stupid situations...
