Can anyone explain why she gets to be, ahem

  1. Super tanky
  2. Unburstable 3, hyper mobile
  3. Have low cooldowns
  4. Have an execute
  5. Abuse conquerer so no tanks
  6. Get to abuse the best items in game
  7. Be ungankable
  8. Have hard cc that ramps her damage
  9. Have defensive stats that scale on offense
  10. Some of the highest burst potential in game
  11. Also have sustained damage
  12. Ways to make deaths dance bleed irrelevant

I could keep going, but you should see my point. This champion is the actual definition of overloaded out her ass. Who thought ALL of this was a good idea?

CDR is just more readily available across the board aside from marksman items, and it's one of her most important stats.

She abuses the best items in the game because she works so well with them, like item 3812 item 3508 item 3071 .

The problem isn't the champion, or the individual items. The problem is that they all just work so well together.

Either way, she's one of the token picks of League, like Ahri Zed Yasuo Tryndamere Lux , so getting direct nerfs may as well be pulling teeth.

Saezio1 votes

Well that, and the fact none of these champs are high elo problems ever. (except ap trynd at some point and yas last season for a tiny window, maybe ahri when released because none had so many tools at the time) Also, have you noticed how even BoxBox stopped playing her? Maybe because she is so strong.

ER is being revered though.

But the Essence Flare passive is being tacked onto Spear of Shojin.

Rich boy mercy said the item was bad, though.

And being replaced by the new iteration of Spear of Shojin. It shares the same passive as current ER but now offers Health instead of Mana.

It's almost as if Riot Games designed a champion to have mechanics.

Oh no. It’s almost like riot tried to make a champion that is physically perfect in every way, except balance.

yep such mechanical skill required

it's more complicated than that. There are animation cancels and everything.

Dipshit.

Animation cancels were a bug that riot just gave up trying to fix and decided to make it “part of her play style”

Because there are like 97 popular riven one trick streamers, Riot can't afford to lose content creators

  1. She's not. Having a shield does not make a champions "super tanky"
  2. She is, it's called playing around her shield cooldown, or you know, not trying to fight or assassinate a fed Riven, especially if she has DD and/or Sterak's
  3. Not nearly as mobile as other fighters nowadays and requires far more input for similar if/not less mobility.
  4. Fair enough
  5. Because it fit's her intended design fantasy as a combo fighter like in other fighting games, aka a finishing move
  6. She isn't even the best Conq user, she's actually one of the worse ones, and anyone who uses Conq makes tanks useless, this is not a Riven problem
  7. ummm, no.
  8. Gank better, her Q is her longest cooldown basic ability AND her primary mobility tool. Have the laner force her into a fight, or wait until she wastes Q in a short trade or on minions. Also she is easier to gank than some others because she requires 4 ability inputs to move instead of instantly being out of range.
  9. If by ramp her damage you mean giving her passive stack, then fair enough. But the only time her CC is an issue is when it is chained and condensed inside of a fast combo, other wise both CC aren't great on their own.
  10. This is a horrible argument and people need to quit using it. Almost every single other shield in the game scales with AP, an ahem OFFENSIVE STAT. Any Mage with a shield who builds full AP is doing the same thing as Riven and they aren't getting complained about. The AD scaling on the shield is a dead argument.
  11. Fair enough, but unless you are already very fed, reaching this potential requires executing hard combos and/or building lethality items
  12. Which is her intended design, and not a Riven problem. There are many other champions that are DPS style champions that, in this day and age, can oneshot someone.
  13. Trying to shield the damage is not making the Bleed irrelevant......

Their is no point to see here, it's just needless whining. If you compare Riven other fighters, she is actually one of the least overloaded champions within her category range, if you can even consider her overloaded. Who thought listing a bunch of non-issues that can be dismantled was a good idea? She is frustrating, I get it, I get frustrated fighting her too and I main her. However, Riven is not some god-like champion. There is nuance in her gameplay and many things about her that can be exploited. People need to actually take a step back and look at the champions and analyze them before jumping on the hate train. Except for Zoe and Teemo. They can both rot in hell.

Found the riven one trick.

You lost all validity at “this champion with 4 dashes isn’t that mobile!”

Zaghyr1 votes

And you are wrong on both accounts. I'm not a Riven one-trick, just a main. And I never said she isn't mobile, I said she isn't AS mobile as other similar champions. Your comment just shows how salty and narrow-minded you are about this.

What similar champion not named akali has 4 unconditional dashes in their kit?

Zaghyr2 votes

You're seriously going to keep arguing? Again you are narrow-minded and you are only looking at the number of dashes and ignoring the distance of the dashes themselves. Each of Riven's 4 dashes are fairly short in distance on their own. 260 units for Q and 325 for E, for a total of 1105 distance traveled.

Fiora's Q has a range of 400, and later in the game with some CDR and hitting an enemy her W is on a shorter cooldown than Riven's shield is at MAX CDR, so she only needs to cast the thing 3 times in order to beat Riven in mobility, and even with the cooldown of her Q, this can still be done within Riven's Q cooldown timer. Oh ya, and Fiora gets bonus movement speed from her passive too.

Renekton's E is 450 on each dash for 900 total, which beats Riven's Q entirely, and only requires 2 inputs, albeit you do need to damage something for the second dash.

Lee Sin's Q can make him dash up to 1300 and his shield 700.

Irelia Q is 600. Meaning killing a target or procing a mark already puts her ahead of Riven.

Camille has 1200 total range on Hookshot and gets movement speed from her Q.

While Riven's mobility IS unconditional, each of her dashes are short on their own and even when they are all added together they are still outmatched by other champions. Those other champions DO have conditions for their mobility, but they have to have those conditions for that much mobility to be fair. Riven is also fair because her unconditional mobility is kept in line by that fact that it is gated behind 2 different abilities, requires 4 inputs, and is VERY dependent on CDR. Do you want to keep going?

Again entirely ignoring the point. She has unconditional mobility. Renekton has to hit enemies, Camille has to hit enemies and be near a wall, Irelia has to have a target Lee sin has to hit a enemy or have a ward/ally unit fiora gets half the fucking range of riven.

What does riven have to do again? Head but her fucking keyboard with her mouse in the right direction? You completely ignore the point of UNCONDITIONAL. no cost. Low cooldowns with any form of cdr. And even has fucking cc tied to one of them Incase someone was able to keep up.

Zaghyr1 votes

Read my last paragraph again, since you completely missed what I said. I will say it again in a way that you can understand. Riven's mobility is unconditional, yes, but has the downside of being split on 2 abilities, requiring 4 inputs, and each dash very short on its own. CDR will not be considered because Riven's mobility is not the only one affected by CDR. The other champions all have the same, if not stronger, mobility because they have harder conditions to meet. Camille's E and Lee's Q are absolutely insane mobility tools that leave Riven in the gutter in comparison, but in exchange for that strength they have harder conditions to meet. This is not a hard concept. Weaker mobility = less conditions, stronger mobility = harder conditions. That's called balance. While there are cases where this is ignored, this is mostly true. In regards to Riven specifically you are also ignoring what using her mobility means for the rest of her gameplay. Her shield, one of her CC, and her primary damage ability are all tied to her mobility, meaning in some cases she will have to trade one thing for the other. And in order to perform certain combos you are sacrificing mobility for combo speed. You're ignoring the conditions of her mobility and the trade-offs.

Riven can be amazing, but you are right. She's not overpowered. Who made this post just hate this champ, because he probably never played Riven.

Anime Fizz1 votes

Riven is only good right now because ER is broken as hell, her kit only has melee range damage and some short cc on into it, compare that to new champs like camille, pyke, zoe, sylas, etc.

If you removed or nerfed ER from the game riven would probably go back to 50%, if conqueror got removed then she would go back to 47% as anything that rushes tabi could completely ignore her for the rest of the game, in fact that was a problem all bruisers had (until conqueror came and fixed that)

If you are going to complain about a champ also look at the champ’s weaknesses. For riven she has very short range and has to rely a lot on her abilities for damage and tankyness, a simple silence can cripple her hard for a while. She also has no innate sustain outside of health pots and her small shield that has a fairly long CD early, so she can be bullied hard during lane and especially at lvl 1 where she only has Q available. If played correctly, a riven can get kited hard. And she has no ranged abilities besides her R.

She is very powerful when played correctly, but she also has very clear drawback that are easily abused if you know how to play against her.

only question for me is how do you counter her flash/1000 dashes set up? it always seems to screw me over as teemo (electro riven)

Issue being, if played correctly she has no real counterplay. She is not duelable after her first item. And it’s not like she falls off. She litteraly only scales harder and harder.
