Riot, stop doing bad things. Save the booties.

Instead of nerfing item 3009 item 3158, try buffing item 3047 item 3111 item 3117.

As things are, CDR is intrinsically a valued stat for pretty much any champion; this means CDR boots will always be valuable. Meanwhile, Swifties are popular at the moment because of the over-prevalence of slows in the game. Not because they are intrinsically better than all of the other boots in the game. Maybe lower the value/duration of many of the slows or possibly remove all of the unnecessary slows (of which there are a LOT) in the game, though this would be a much more complicated answer.

Tabi often isn't worth being useless if you're melee and unable to touch a ranged champ, or unable to engage or kite as effectively. Tanks usually don't need it because they already have enough armor and will often be engaging on the ADC for their team, and they are the prime candidate to be using this item. Not to mention that many times an ADC will have a much higher priority than autoing a tank for 10 seconds. It does happen, but considering ADCs are in every single game, this is a surprisingly situational item.

Merc Treads were over-nerfed. The tenacity is near-useless now. Either remove it and buff the MR, or rebuff the tenacity (the right answer).

For mobis, have the MS decay when you enter combat, and ramp up the longer you're out of combat (starting after the last tick of damage either dealt or received by any source to or from you.

The 800 boots aren't just too good relative to other boots, but to other items as well. Swifties are one of the best gold purchases in the game and I'm honestly surprised they aren't nerfing them harder.

Its slows that need nerfing so swifties aren't required on everyone. Then they can nerf swifties.

Everyone has slows just tacked onto seemingly random skills. They necessitate the item regardless of whether or not they're 'too good.'

They'll have to nerf them until they're useless again in order for them to not be a common buy. But at that point, why not just delete them, cause they'll never do 'enough.'

When an item is effective at its niche, and its niche is over-prevalent, you don't nerf the item. You stop its niche situation from being over-prevalent, then you nerf the item if its powerful even outside of its niche.

Please let me know how many games you run into today that don't have at least 8 slows, including from items.

But, that's not what needs to happen anyway. The other boot options are too weak relative to swifties. Why make a potentially viable boot option unviable, just to make it so over-nerfed options are considered 'viable?'

The logical thing to do would be buff other boots so we have more options, as opposed to 1 less option while boots continually get weaker overall at the same time.

No one bought swifties because 35% tenacity on Mercs was just plain better. That's literally the only reason swifties weren't used. I would be ok with buffing Mercs if, and only if slows were no longer affected by it. That way Mercs aren't stuck as being strictly superior or inferior to Swifties in all situations. Then we can let swifties actually be good.

i have no idea why you get so many downvotes on everything you post that seems logical to me from an ease of balancing perspective

People don't like being told their ideas are bad and lots of people recognize my name and downvote me simply because they don't like me personally. That's all there is to it really.

My question is why are people mad? It's only 100 gold each. Supports might find it slightly bothersome, but outside of that, this is like one minion wave of gold assuming it doesn't have a cannon in it.

Because they don't want their item to be nerfed at all. They just want items they don't use to be buffed so they don't have to be directly affected at all. The only compare the boots to each other instead of to items as a whole. And as I said, not only are swifties too good compared to other boots, they're also too good overall. FFS, they cut the cost of them item by 200, raised the MS by 5, and kept the passive the same strength. No shit they're suddenly too good. It's the same people that don't want Dead Mans to be nerfed and just want Sunfire and Randuins buffed even though tanks are probably too strong as it is.

Its not the 100g, tbh. Its how they're nerfing the common buys, when them being too strong isn't the issue. Its the other options being too weak.

The fact that there's an ADC in every single game, no matter what, and Tabi is still not a common buy on anyone that buys any HP...that says something. And Tabi didn't even get hit hard.

Mercs is a joke in comparison now. They used to be the way to ease CC. Now people buy them primarily for MR, since the majority of characters who would want Tenacity to avoid dying (not engaging) do not go down the Resolve tree. That means they still have 4/5 duration, as opposed to 2/3. That's a huge gap. With the damage direction the game is taking, if anything, Tenacity should have gone slightly up, not down. The higher damage is, the more valuable CC duration is even if someone gets killed, thus voiding the remaining duration.

Picks are practically the entire game now, and you can sometimes take several objectives because of just one in the game's current state.

Honestly any post with a hint of intelligence will get downvoted into oblivion. It's not a "community", just a group of people who complain to Riot about Riot.

They just downvote drone all his posts because they dislike his first post. I downvoted his first post because I thought it was stupid, but upvoted his second post because it made sense. Most people are just like "This guy said something I don't agree with, must downvote everything he says."

You're wasting your time, and the health of your wrists. Riot won't listen, because they don't care about anything the community has to say about balance. Which is why the game is in such an awful state right now.

You aren't taking into account masteries.

1 of them giving a slow resistance and tenacity, if you're a champion that needs this you'd pick item 3111 or item 3009 this is to focus power a bit, if you want tenacity you will have to actually get it now.

I don't know what is up with item 3158 being nerfed, the 15% always struck me as weird anyway, but I'd wait until the mage update that will rebalance/add new items with CDR most likely before we go crazy.

I do wish item 3117 gave higher base movement speed, only a bit, still less then other boots, and item 3047 could see a small bump on that damage reduction, depends on what they do with Graves and some other marksmen.

Champion Skin2 votes

Why bother with item 3111 when you can just get that mastery and get almost as much tenacity and then just go for item 3009 as they are cheaper and give more MS and the small bonus of some slow resistances and there is also item 2138 I guess when you can afford it

Silents4293 votes

For the extra tenacity?

Every bit counts, its less time being CC'ed it's huge.

The elixir is temporary and a gold sink until late game when you have money to burn.

Champion Skin3 votes

Every bit counts? Not always... if getting CC'ed for more then 1 second will result in you getting blown up then reducing a 2 second stun to 1.5 or 1 second doesn't really matter (QSS OP)

If CC is stopping you from chasing or catching people or running away then yes every bit matter... but in that case more MS is almost just as good (boots of swiftness)

Silents4291 votes

item 3140 isn't viable on a lot of champions. Well it is, but you won't find yourself wanting it on a lot of champions.

And it does, the difference of a few mili seconds when stunned on some champions is a huge deal, it could be the difference of Ziggs throwing his ult onto the grouped up enemy right as he is free, or Orianna shielding herself, or Alistar ulting.

Against Morgana's snare, the difference can be huge too, on taking another free auto attack from the enemy marksmen.

Rather than raise the cost of Swifties by 100g, you'd rebalance every slow in the game? C'mon, really? Swifties were overbuffed when they became one of the "cheap" boots in 5.22, when all the upgraded boots were sorted into two tiers. So were Ionians, given that they're now required if you want to minimize your Flash cooldown. Mobis are getting a slight buff along with the cost increase, though I'd prefer 10 more in-combat MS over 10 more outside (and they'd still be slower than other upgrades).

Tenacity from Mercs and mastery is now 32%, versus 37% before. Hardly useless. Even 20% is a significant improvement over none, especially if you're against Morgana.

The people that need the tenacity often aren't in the resolve tree at all. That's what you're missing. Because of that, Mercs still only reduces 1/5 of a CC. With how damage is in the game now, you're going to die because you got stunned at all. Not because it lasted .2-.4 seconds longer.

SoMNia1 votes

On the contrary, I think people that "aren't in the resolve tree" are exactly the ones who aren't supposed to have tenacity. A tank isn't supposed to get nailed down, because then assassins just walk right by them and one-shot an ADC. On the other hand, a carry is meant to be susceptible to crowd control, because that's how you stop them from wrecking everyone else.

Actually, if you look at a lot of other games, squishies have higher stun resist and similar stats. Their downfall is that they get blown up, even if they're harder to CC. Meanwhile tanks have lots of HP, CC, and respectable damage, but its easier to CC them repeatedly.

Why bother with Mercs when you can get the mastery + swiftness boots (and maybe eventually elixir of Iron)

Desiderium2 votes

It's the same problem as with why Thunderlords was popular. It was because all the other masteries were weak.

I will never buy item 3009

PiVoRx1 votes

Imo boots should have a build tree similiar to other items, for example you can combine up a boots that cost around 3k gold and provide some serious stats. For example berserkers: 45ms, 50% as, some armor penetration and crit chance.

Champion Skin1 votes

The thing with that is that it doesn't really do much (people probably wouldn't build it most of the time before the game ends) and if the game drags on for long enough for it to actually matter and for people to build that stuff it would most likely favor ADC's as they are most likely the ones who would get the biggest boost from the "extra" item (because of how hard ADC's scale with their triple scaling AD X AS X Crit and the more you have off one thing the more effective it is to get the other things which means late game getting more AD/AS/Crit is really good on an ADC)
