Spellcaster -> AD Champ

What if we had a champion who was a spell-caster, then transitioned into auto-attack based gameplay as they run out of mana? Like gaining some bonus based on %missing mana. Or they pull out a weapon when they drop below a certain mana threshold?

Something like that

Because they would have to have their spells scale with AD to begin with to actually give an incentive to ever use the auto attacking. And at that point you just have a normal AD caster. If their spells scale with AP, then you just have a mage (as unless the bonus is enough to be ridiculous they aren't going to use autoattacks).

Well, Ori and Lulu sort of have this, in early laning especially.

They don't focus on autoattacks as much as they do just weaving them in (which every mage does early on, as 50 targetted, no mana damage is better than trying to hit someone for a 70 damage, skillshot high mana). Even then, both don't focus on autoattacking much past early game as they just sit back and do mage things (unless they went some weird on hit build).
