Can we bring back zephyr
I really miss it
I really miss it
GOTTA GO FAST
DFG too pls to compete with duskblade
...Deathfire Grasp became the item for assassins to stack another nuke spell on top of their already burst-heavy kits. While we like to keep itemization options available for those who want it, the sheer existence of Deathfire Grasp has given us a few headaches in the past and present.

Look at that, riot op
A lot of DFG abusers had the ability to pop you from range and then walk away, duskblade users like Rengar have no easy escape and have to commit to a burst
And because I know it’s coming, it’s an issue with zed being too safe, not the item.

Leaving out all the ranged champs when lethality was the go to build for ADCs.

I give them a little more of a pass because if you get on top of them you can kill them, unlike the assassins who have built in escapes with either resets or hilariously low cooldowns.
Plus the whole reduced duskblade damage thing.
That's such a shitty reason to remove an item. Can't the same be said for anything?
Infinity Edge became the item for ADCs to stack another DPS item on top of their already DPS-heavy kits.
Warmog's became the item for tanks to stack another HP item on top of their already HP-heavy builds.
X became the item for Y to stack another X's stat on top of their already X's stat-heavy kits.
But those just give stats while this is a lot of free dmg on already gold-efficient item.
Then nerf the stats so that it's only gold efficient if the active is worth it. Removing the item altogether is just such a bad move.
Two problems. First, they'd already done that earlier in the item's existence, and it had been a pretty resounding failure. Second, It already was only gold-efficient if the active was worth it. It had decent gold efficiency, but nothing special compared to other items at the time. The problem was that it essentially added another spell's worth of damage to a rotation, and in addition, it also boosted the value of all your other spells. It added both significant reliable damage, and a major boost to spell damage. That warps caster gameplay more than basically any other item does, because it created the biggest disparity between "kit damage" and "actual damage". You can't design around casters doing an expected amount of damage, because DFG lets you put out a whole spell's worth of damage more than that even without taking its stats into account. No other mage items do that, and neither of the items you list above do that for their respective classes.
DFG was a bad item concept because of the active, not because of the stats. It either needed to lose a major piece of the active's power, or it needed to become much less reliable to use. Both options had major problems (and the first one had failed multiple tiems), so removal was chosen.
Well the main reason they removed DFG was Ahri, Katarina, Fizz, and Leblanc were broken using it and no one else used it. They all built stuff like lich bane or gunblade with guaranteed damage to kill someone.
And to be fair, duskblade gives NO WHERE near as much damage as "deal 15% of targets maximum health and +20% amagic damage for x seconds." This is an insane amount of damage. On just a 1000 burst combo vs a squishy with only 2k hp it adds 450 damage. You're not going to have only 1000 burst on anyone using it though. Odds are it'll add 1000s of damage to you.
Then again, it is frustrating that they nerfed lich bane to 50% AP scaling from 75%, nerfed gunblade's active, AND removed deathfire grasp all because of a few abusers.
As an aside, it's this kind of inconsistency that makes it seem like Riot's deep reasoning on their design philosophy is sometimes made up on the spot, or at least on a less solid foundation than is meant to come across. It's excellent that Riot shares their thoughts on their ongoing design process with us players, but it also means that whatever we glean from them, we memorize and hold onto for basically ever as a given truth. This also means that we tend to compare and contrast how subsequent design decisions chalk up to the values and reasons Riot has given us in the past, and if there is a disconnect, it tends to feel pretty bad. Duskblade adding raw additional burst when DFG was removed for the same reason is one such example, but so is Riot's recurring assessment of the dangers of overloaded kits, often immediately preceding the release of an overloaded champion, with their kit overload causing immediate and serious balancing and game health problems.
It's likely Riot evolves their own thought process over time on these topics, but we players don't get to see this, and so each time we're faced with these kinds of ongoing inconsistencies, and very little apparent follow-through based on prior design rationale. It would help to have more updates from Riot that precisely addressed how their design philosophy evolved on these points, or at least where they think lies a critical difference that justifies what otherwise comes across as an unjustifiable decision.
I always built Zephyr on melee carries. It was great on Yi.
no because it just wasn't used enough
[sg-janna]
I'd prefer another tenacity item that wasn't zephyr.
can we also bring Sword of the Occult back while we're on it cause i miss it aswell
Inb4 draven snowballs even harder...
Yes, lets bring back the item that will let ADCs snowball harder
I never played when it was still an item, but wasn't it really bad?
Kinda.
It was the same as Mejais is right now.
The issue isn't the item, it's that the game has changed DRASTICALLY since it's removal
Isn't the difference that Mejai's still exists?
AD and AP scale differently, hence why one item exists and the other doesn't.
Also why DFG was removed but Dusk can exist as is.
same in the sense that buying it is a risk-reward thing
Meanwhile, no one proceeds to build it because tenacity is a useless stat due to too many knockups and the fact bruisers get blown up if they build any damage items that don't give HP.
But hey, I guess Kayle could build it.

Who?
Oh, just as irrelevant.
Id take that on
and that over trinity force on
and
If it does it will be a must have item for adcs. Getting all that attack speed, damage and added tenacity to it will cause adcs to be even more problematic than they are at the moment. I do miss that item though. A lot.
you think adc's would become "problematic" because they build zephyr ....
I'm fairly sure
would build Zephyr before any ADC I know of.
I would build it on
the second it got put back on the game.
what are u talking about i used to sell boots with full items
See, the issue is rn ADCs do need something to deal with the Zacand Ornn missing everything and walking at them or the Leona who just strolls out of combat after engaging into 5. The current valuation and itemization of effective kiting is next to none
If I have to deal with Ezreal, Tristana, Kalista kiting being even harder to crack I will literally quit the game. No.
Kiting requires skill, often cripples someone's DPS, and isn't reliable. Play an engage champ if you're tired of getting kited, and realize sometimes they have escaped, too bad.
em.. can someone tell me what zephyr was/does? ive only been playing for a year.

It gave 10 AD, 50% attack speed, 10% move speed, 10% CDR and a unique passive, Tenacity, which reduced everything but knockups/suppressions by 35%. It wasn't a popular item and the people saying it'll make ADCs OP don't realize ADCs won't even buy it(unless they're full build) because there are so many better items. Zephyr would be nice to have back AS AN OPTION but it's only attractive to on-hit champions unless sold for boots after being full build. I wouldn't mind it coming back if they buffed the AS to 70% to replace old Runaan's.
25 AD*

25 AD*
It's 20, at least every pic I could find of Zephyr had 20. It may have been buffed at one point, but all I could find was 20. The only thing I ever remembered was 50% AS 10% move speed and the tenacity passive so I had to look up the item and only found pics of it in the ingame shop.
I don't think we can, otherwise some champs might hit 100% tenacity and be immune to CC altogether with the new runes. That would be scary...
That's not how tenacity works.
The tenacity on Zephyr can just have the same Unique name as Merc treads so they don't stack, it's not that hard.
it did.
It's been so long I didn't even remember they were the same name, Jesus.
