Another "been out of the spotlight for a while" buff

The Deckowner··45 votes·2,614 views

Full Context

Nidalee’s been out of the spotlight for a while, and even when teams would benefit from a magic damage jungler they’re often overlooking her entirely. Her clears are still some of the quickest in the game and she deals plenty of damage, but she lacks some of the utility other junglers bring. We’re strengthening her healing as she scales into the late game to even the playing field.

TL;DR Rito buffing Nid for the same reason they buffed Lee.

DEFINITELY NO FAVOURITISM

TLDR We want Nidalee and Lee played at Worlds

AirKingNeo11 votes

I'm actually fine with this, assuming it's fixed later. More spice for solo queue than fucking Sejuanni Cho'Gath every fucking game.

Just an exception.

Flemman1 votes

they need fresh out jungler for possible team skin, atm only sejuani/maokai are played without having one already, adding nida to the list is a safety valve in case cindrehulk change shift the meta more than excpected :p

Kloqdq13 votes

Too be fair, I haven't seen anyone pick Nidalee in a very long time. Even if a team needs magic damage, there is just other junglers that serve the same job but do things better. This at least gives her more of a supporting niche to play at.

The Deckowner1 votes

Even if a team needs magic damage, there is just other junglers that serve the same job but do things better.

That is because item 3117 Elise has the strongest lv3 gank/tower dive, as long as Rito nerfed her(which they did this patch) Nidalee will see a lot more play(which she already has), especially with item 3504 .

Kloqdq1 votes

yeah that is the likely case of what is going to happen. Elise is still a powerful level 3 jungler but with this Nid is going to be more appealing than Elise and whoever else they may pick. I still think she is going to fall sort and I'd rather just pick a tank than Nid but that's me.

The Deckowner2 votes

Pro play is going to evolve into 2 styles probably, one being triple tank double backline ball comp, the other being tank top support jg and sup with control mage and hypercarry. Nid and Ivern are probably going to be play in the later comp, especially with the buff.

Kloqdq2 votes

Yeah I can honestly see that happening. Pros value utility and reliability in their champions above all less. It's why someone like Gragas is so massive in Pro play but hardly seen in Solo. Nidalee is less reliable when compared to other champions of the same grouping but by pushing her utility aspects that may give pros a stronger desire to play her.

L Psy Kongroo10 votes

I love how they say "even when teams would benefit from a magic damage jungler, Nid is overlooked". Well Sejuani why Zac the fuck Maokai do you think Gragas THAT is Chogath Riot?

Even with these buffs Nid won't see play at worlds because tank junglers are flat out better in every possible way. Nid can't soak damage for the ADC, she can't buy Knight's Vow or Locket for the ADC, and she has no cc to help protect the ADC. Meaning she's completely useless and will just get out-scaled.

Meanwhile an ACTUAL AP jungler like Fiddlesticks is left to rot because he's not flashy enough for the LCS. What a fucking joke lol.

DuskDaUmbreon5 votes

It's less because Fiddle isn't flashy enough and more because his Q is absolutely cancerous in any laning situation.

Wheatloaf8 votes

He also relies heavily on poor vision control and decision-making.

The Deckowner8 votes

TBF Fiddlesticks 's entire play style revolves around lack of vision control and he is very blue buff reliant, which are critical weaknesses in pro play.

DuskDaUmbreon8 votes

Can Riot not buff anyone without it being called favoritism?

Lee could be at a literal 20% win rate and, if Riot buffed him, you'd still say that it was favoritism.

The Deckowner7 votes

No one called the Ezreal buff favouritism, because he was actually shitty and needed help. He was so bad to the point where EZ jg, which has only a 47% win rate, still out-performs his adc counterpart.

LeeSin favouritism is a fact, every time world comes up he gets buffed, no matter if he is weak or strong.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Lee's not that great right now, and they didn't even touch his damage. Just a small increase to early game shielding on his W.

The Deckowner3 votes

When a champion has over 20% play rate in high elo, I am quite certain he isn't weak. Unless you think all the high elo players just suck at the game and keep picking a shitty champion.

SweedishGunner2 votes

Reason his play rate is so high is that a lot of autofiled junglers pick him.

ZeichiVos1 votes

Do you not see a problem when the high skill cap jungler is playable by any old autofill though?

SweedishGunner1 votes

But that shows in his winrate? He's less than 50% winrate. Also he's got a high skill cap but his skill floor is pretty low too.

ZeichiVos1 votes

His winrate should be where it is imo. The fact that they're trying to increase the winrate (buffs) is the part that op is complaining about.

7.18 is the Worlds Patch. Meaning this is the patch we will be seeing during the Worlds Tournament soon.

After this patch is when standard balancing will resume with pre-season coming in 7.22

The Deckowner7 votes

Yeah buffing flashy champion so they see play in worlds for more LC$B1GPL@Y$, it's like a tradition at this point.

Shuyin17822 votes

To be fair to Nidalee though, right now she sucks ass so she needs a little love.

GayFluffyUnicorn4 votes

According to challenger player noway4u she is already played frequently in high elo. So yeah sucks ass. Maybe rito should just stop balancing soloQ around low elo and pro play and more about high elo soloQ play.

Shuyin1785 votes

High-Elo is like 15% of the player base at most. The vast majority of the playerbase is in Platinum and lower, so yeah she sucks ass right now.

UnboundHades1 votes

Shit argument if a doctor told you that you weren't sick but 3 bums say you have cancer who's right

Shuyin1785 votes

Part of the problem with the playerbase is that they look at statistics and agree with them when they are above their elo. You are not part of the top 15% (nor am I), thus should not use the top 15% as part of your decision making because it does not apply to you. Phreak himself has said this is one of the biggest mistakes players make. You should only use information that is relevant to your elo. If you're in Bronze you should not focus on what works in Diamond+ because you are not in the Diamond+ environment, as an example.

As for your example, there is a massive difference between a professional in a field they went to college for and a professional in a video game that uses information from a ranked environment that does not apply to most of the playerbase. Medical advice from a real world doctor applies to everyone, gaming strats based on the highest elo of play barely applies to anyone.

kasfas3 votes

The issue is this isn't a matter of life or death, or even optimal balance, but it's done to achieve the most fun for the most people.

Snowplosion2 votes

That Lee buff ain't doing dick though. Not sure about Nidalee. Tank comps will still be the best at worlds.

The Deckowner2 votes

That Lee buff is actually pretty significant, 15 base shield means 30 extra health per camp, it is abig deal early.

Snowplosion2 votes

30 health is exactly what he needs to be picked at Worlds... Yeah no.

The Deckowner2 votes

He was already playable in pro play, the buff is just going to push him from like a 10% pick rate to a 30-40% in worlds.

Snowplosion1 votes

Dude, I haven't seen Lee Sin since Rift Rivals. He will be picked in Worlds mark my words, but it might be once or twice. He will not be a common appearance.

koshkyra6 votes

Tbh nid needs buffs

The Deckowner2 votes

Why?

koshkyra1 votes

If she misses the spear (easiest skillshot in the game to dodge imo) she cant kill you whatsoever.

If she hits the spear, it has to be from literally the tip of the max range to output enough damage for nid to then jump on them and assassinate.

And mobility creep makes it that much easier to dodge the spear.

The Deckowner1 votes

A powerful skillshot is balanced by being hard to land, that sounds like a trade of isn't it?

Her oppressiveness comes from strong 1v1/fast clear speed/decent gank pressure. Your reasoning of her being weak sounds like you can't play her too well.

Don't forget when lane Nid was a thing, you don't want the game to go back to that state.

Linna Excel1 votes

Her oppressiveness also ends in the early to mid game. She's basically a second support after that.

If anything, riot should look at reworking her.

SweedishGunner3 votes

No thanks, I'd rather Nid stays in a dumpster. Did Riot just forget the fact that when Nid is strong she just invalidates every other jungler?

PrinceOfStorms4 votes

Catchup XP means that's not an issue anymore, because it's nearly impossible to do that anymore.

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

Hey a garbage champion got a buff. Must be cause of worlds right?

The Deckowner1 votes

How is she garbage?

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

Haven't seen her in 20 years , haven't seen any high elo play her. That's how.

Overloadroad2 votes

Haven't seen Volibear or Udyr either

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

Are you implying they are good?

Overloadroad2 votes

I'm saying they're garbage, yet they don't get buffed even tho they're much longer "out of the spotlight" than Nidalee

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

They need reworks , not buffs.

The Deckowner1 votes

I haven't seen AAtrox Udyr Volibear in years, why aren't they getting changed huh?

Nid has a high skill floor, which means players need to dedicate a lot of time to play her well, that results in only high elo Nid mains can play her properly, therefore not being seen in low elo and relatively lower play rate in high elo. Where as you have champions like I listed above having pretty low skill floor yet basically not played in any elo because they arepure garbage.

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

Udyr and Voli need reworks , Aatrox is already scheduled for one. Udyr and Voli are stat check champs so buffing them until their rework would be dumb

The Deckowner1 votes

I never said buff lol, I said CHANGE.
