Ruby Sightstone Should Recharge Just Like Trinkets

Everyone has been asking for buffs to Ruby Sightstone for a long time, and for good reason! As it stands there is next to no reason to upgrade it from the original Sightstone. I was thinking today that I would upgrade it much sooner if the charges of Ruby Sightstone behaved in the same way as the upgraded trinket ward in which after a set cooldown, the charges would build back up allowing the user to place more wards without returning to base solely to fill it up again.

I think this would give upgrading to Ruby a very real advantage compared to the blue Sightstone.

I'm not sure about the whole recharging thing, but something I'd like to see is if Ruby Sightstone had a increased range to place wards, making it a good option for if your behind as it will be safer to ward. But if your ahead then the additional cast range is a bit superflous.

I think increased ward range would be cool.

How about : you gain a short but strong burst of movement speed, after you ward. So you can place deep wards and run out of the enemy jungle fast.

I think it should increase your warding limit, give people an incentive to purchase it. Nothing crazy, like up the vision and stealth ward cap by 1 each or something, don't change the stats though

I totally agree. Currently sightstone is really in a bad spot compared to trinket upgrade since with masteries you can get wards out again and again without having to visit fountain to a degree that makes sightstone really feel old. That at least would take care of that.

Get rid of Sightstone, make it so that Trinkets can be upgraded at level 4/5 with support item.

Marthian1 votes

ok with trinket integration, not ok with integrating with support items (since some are currently meh.)

I'm not sure what you mean by "Trinket integration"

How about options for sightstones useful for supports that don't need all that extra HP?

Cindikle2 votes

What if they extended it to match trinkets. Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz to match the trinkets.

Ruby - Clearing or assisting in clearing a ward grants you a ward charge if you are under 3 wards. Sapphire - Destroyed wards continue to grant vision for 2 seconds, this vision quickly diminishes. Topaz - Yellow trinket wards are considered their own pool of wards, but only one can be out at a time. Sightstone wards will regenerate over time(one every two min?).

Here is the thing: They made it intentionally not a good upgrade for Sightstone until late game because if it was a useful upgrade, it would be mandatory to rush, further delaying supports from buying items they want to buy (and that isn't much fun for most support players.)

I do agree that Sighstone should recharge wards, but it should be on regular Sightstone as well as Ruby Sightstone. I don't agree with having to further delay my support build to finish Ruby Sighstone.

I kind of see what you going at but I disagree. I main support. I have no problem with rushing sightstone. It does slow my effectiveness in a team fight being essentially an extra 800 gold behind. However. The way the sightstone is and the ruby sightstone is. For combat stats it's completely gold inefficient. Now I know most people have the mentality "It's super gold efficient you have unlimited free wards" having vision is important but at the same time. Supports are already low on income and they have to buy this item which doesn't help them sustain, deal damage, CC, protect, nothing... it's just a ward box. I would rather it just be 400 and have no stats than it being 800 and have a ruby crystal worth of health.

Now with "buffing the ruby sightstone would make people rush it" This I don't see being true. Right now the only reason I ever upgrade to the ruby sightstone is if I have 800 gold and have NOTHING else to spend it on. IT's 800 more gold to get you 250hp and an extra ward per back. That would be great if we weren't limited to 3 wards. but we are. so it's not worth the gold. I personally think sightstone and ruby sightstone should be buffed. Now I don't feel the buff needs to be this idea of you getting wards back steadily. You already get a 4th or 5th ward to throw out between backs. and most teams only have 2-3 ways to break wards and it's not like it's them running around with clarity. I think the buff needs to be something for combat. some sustain or more health or something. give them some increase to mana and health regen or give the sightstone an extra 50 health and the ruby and extra 100. make a few versions of the sightstone like junglers have with there items so you can get small increases to your stats that effect your champion the best.

My main beef was making Ruby Sighstone better at vision, and that's the part if they buffed vision on it, it would be mandatory. Buffing stats on it (such as more HP or options for AP build path) would not make it as good a rush item. (sorry if my post was confusing.)

I don't mind building Sightstone, not really here to argue that (wouldn't mind some alternate build paths for regular Sightstone such as T1 sightstone that gave 20 AP in addition to wards), but making Ruby Sightstone strictly better at providing vision (vs slightly better how it currently is) would, again, make it mandatory for supports to rush.

I feel like this would almost make it too strong. But then again they could always balance it by adjusting the cooldown on charges gained. Anything is better than it is right now.

Marthian2 votes

Being forced to get it for ward refresh would be very annoying.

Sticking it on both sightstone options, Yellow Trinket already does this and at 250g (and supports sometimes are roaming well past the 4 wards Sightstone provides.)

Wards are already overpowerd so it doesnt matter

I like the idea of not having to back to get extra wards. Nobody actually buys Ruby Sightstone until late game when you can afford it in one back.

Well I believe each player should have 5 (4 stealth, 1 vision) wards on the map at any time. because #1 my jungler, top, mid, adc dont ward for shit. I agree with OP.

Typo? There is a three ward limit on the greens, plus one pink so you can only have 4 per person.

No. It's obviously not a typo; he explicitly says:

The last thing Sightstone needs buffs for is vision. Give it a late game stat stick upgrade, but it's already the most gold efficient item in the game by literally 1000%.

Westonbirt1 votes

item 3361

250 for unlimited wards, forever without feeling like you're trying to go on vacations without bringing a debit card.

AND it doesn't take space.

AND you can cast it further with a tier 1 utility mastery.

Gorgannan1 votes

so... Get rid of sightstone?

Idk why you can't just upgrade your trinket when you want, and buy another to take bag space.

Westonbirt1 votes

My main point is that it's more gold efficient. It's less expensive than sightstone and provides a more reliable source of vision.

High51 votes

Not a bad suggestion. I disagree that ruby sightsone is weak though.

I'll agree that solo queue doesn't ward or really understand the value of vision / vision denial at all. That's Riot's fault too and them joking about people not warding isn't funny.

If you use vision though, having 5 wards is incredibly valuable. It allows you to ward drag take drag, move to baron, ward baron, take / deny baron without waiting for the trinket cd or having to go to base. Insert any two map objectives above.

Westonbirt1 votes

Except upgraded, with the item CD mastery you can get a new ward every 40s. And the thing is yeah 5 wards is nice. But that actually means dropping 3 of them at a time and next time you want to ward access to dragon, you're shit out of luck. In a dynamic battle, you're going to be needing to ward more than 5 times in between every fountain visit.

The problem with buffing the ruby sightstone is that it makes it an item that is required to buy before other support items. I would love to see improvements to the sightstone (either for vision control or stat wise) but Sight control is at a very balanced point right now. The support isn't excepted to buy 500 wards a game now and with trinket upgrades it becomes easy for other lanes to help ward. Improve it's ability to ward too much and supports are required to buy it, improve it's stats too much and solo lanes are expected to buy it. Really, Ruby sightstone is a very odd item that isn't even really needed but it's there if you ever want that extra ward and health.

Increased cast range or a recharging mechanic would be good. I think +1 Ward/3 Minutes would even be worthwhile.

Stealth buff to LeeSin.

Rito approves.

Silents4291 votes

Give it increased range, Recharging, and or increase warding limit for both regular and vision wards.

Synndramere1 votes

see, it gives 5 wards for a player and everyone else in the team places wards too... if you are consistently out of wards then you aren't backing to base enough. this gives a signal of 2 things-

  1. place your wards wisely as if you have the last 5
  2. Recall , if you have followed step 1 correctly then its high time you recall when ruby ss runs out.
Colgate Gator1 votes

That would definitely give the item an adge, yeah.

It's also be nice to be able to place more than 3 wards at the same time if you get that upgrade.

Pretty sure I played the support role exclusively for about 2 months before I even realized that there's an upgrade to Sightstone. That's how little attention Ruby gets--none of the build guides I looked at even mentioned it.

DarkfireAM1 votes

In my opinion as a pretty big fan of the support role in general I have to say that the idea of giving ruby sightstone a cooldown did come to my mind at first. However after a while of playing with the support role more often in which I would obviously buy a sightstone I started to realize that that might not be the best discision, let me explain:

  1. Ruby sightstone has different characteristics to the trinket upgrade, it cost more and you have to actually recall in order to gain more charges, potentially losing pressure throughout the map. The Yellow Trinket is more tailored to non-support players that want to have some extra vison w/o having to go buy a ward every single time, where instead they gain charges every couple or minuets, not losing them pressure, but giving a less reliable opportunity to ward. This being a strong justification as to why the sightstone has no cooldown

  2. Now unless I misinterpreted you incorrectly, you are suggesting that it recharges while your out of base, but you can also recall for all your charges like the original, but in my option that's way to much vison on the map, than is reasonable. I mean you can basically have a wards accessible at pretty much all times, and for the cost of it that's pretty ridiculous. This would not only impact normal games but competitive play as well since support could basically have vison control for a virtually infinite amount of time with no real counterplay besides buying a sweepers, and lets be honest here you can only sweep so many wards.

Honestly I like the though of having some type of recharge mechanic or something that makes the upgrade justify the gold spent for it, but the way you are proposing it makes it seems to strong and gives way too much vison control for both teams.

I forgot ruby sightstone even existed. Now that I think about it, even when im full build i've never built it in my life LOL

"Because we don't want people to be forced to rush it!" -Rito

That's why Ruby Sightstone will remain as it is unless they decide to make the wildest changes of anything.

Vegas Dad1 votes

Just remove fog of war it is getting to be a joke when the map is filled with wards... How about we limit wards on map to 1 per player which is still absurd

Nekusen1 votes

it just come in different varieties that give different stats (like jg items), thats all it needs.
