In general I agree with your point.
In specific situations (like this one appears to be) though, it's an ally quite literally telling you that they're getting quite fed and will be able to carry easily as long as an opponent isn't equally fed.
The advice isn't "get better", it's "whatever you're doing, stop", as in: If you're dying while cs'ing in lane, just stay under your tower please If you're dying under your tower, abandon your lane and stick with the jungler Regardless of where you're dying, start building defense only
It's surprising sometimes how you have to beg your teammates to let you carry them. I've had games where I could 1v3 any 3 people on the enemy team and still couldn't win because my teammates (who could get 1v4'd by any of our 5 opponents it seemed) insist on wandering without vision without my protection.
It's amazing how many games are lost because 1 or 2 people on a team can't even manage the bare minimum it takes to get carried. I've literally told people, "All you have to do to win this game is not play absolutely horrible from this point forward." So what do they do? Run around randomly, die constantly, ignore calls, all while raging because they don't get to be the ones to carry.
Sorry, but no it really isn't. There is no advice in "stop feeding."
"Try to just stall out lane and farm under turret. I'll pressure dragon and try and draw his attention" "Hey, try not to engage without jungler or me. I'll gank ASAP, k?" "Do you think you could build some MR? An Aegis would really help out team and it would help a LOT against Vlad"
That's advice. It's helpful. It's constructive. It says something meaningful. "Stop feeding" is a goal. The above is how to achieve the goal. That's the difference between advice and command. Note that it's supportive. It doesn't demoralize your teammate; it tells him you understand that he's struggling. Note that the above also illustrates how you specifically intend to accommodate your teammate. You're saying "Hey, I get that you're struggling and I want to support you. I'll do what I can." That, or it brings in the rest of the team; "your individual score isn't the sole validator of worth. You have value to the team."
Advice ought actually help the individual. Nothing, LITERALLY nothing about "stop feeding" does so; it's not like they're unaware of that particular goal.
"But why do I have to hold their hands? Boo hoo I wanna be toxic. Something something this generation something something too sensitive"
Okay, I don't know why people want to pretend that teamwork isn't a skill but teamwork is a skill. Professional teams include non Diamond-I/Master Tier individuals. Wanna know why? Teamwork is a skill. Your ability to support your teammates and coordinate a team is a skill. I have worse mechanical skill than some bronze players. But I'm in mid gold. Was in upper gold and playing with mid plat at peak activity-- probably worse mechanical skill then. Why? Because I use teamwork. And the further up I climbed, the more frequently I see that individual players that do really really well individually lose games. Especially if they're toxic. You can't coordinate a team by screaming at them. Subtle support and conflict management have won me more games than I can count at this point. I'm certainly not LCS level but good coordination and higher level strategic decision making can win a lot of games that sheer mechanical skill can't (especially when said skill is as poor as mine).
And the further up I climb, the more impossible it seems to single handedly carry games. In Bronze, sure people can get fed and win games solo. I've done it a couple of times. In silver, certain champs have that ability (looking at you Katarina). In gold, you NEED your team to move with you and help you or else it'll just be a 1v5. With players above gold, you cannot do anything alone. Individual score and play can't actually "carry" games in upper level games. The players who've carried at these higher levels often do other things. They gank and pressure the map-- THIS IS IMPORTANT: not so they end up 27/5/0 but so their teammates go from 1/5 to 8/5. That's the crucial difference. In lower level play, you can carry 1v5, essentially. The higher up you go, the more carrying becomes about turning a 1v5 to 5v5. It's by this logic that support mains can climb to diamond and above. Which again demonstrates that teamwork is a skill. Weird, how that works.
We tend to act so high and mighty like "just let me carry the game." But that, first of all, does not warrant toxic behavior or curt, unhelpful messages like "stop feeding." Which, by the way, by discouraging your teammate, is actually incredibly counterproductive. Second off, if you really want to carry so hard, nobody should "let you" carry. You should CARRY. That's what carrying is about. HELP THEM help you. If you need someone to stop feeding, make them strong enough to not feed. Sure, one or two players certainly can lose you the game (and this applies not only in game score but also in team coordinate. People like you may make people like me lose!) but there are just as many cases where you could have done something about it. That's what the ELO climb is about: doing what YOU need to do to secure that victory because in the end, you're all you can control.
Look, i never said the player who said "stop feeding" is a good person or is saying the most appropriate thing. Obviously they could take the time to be more productive. Some people aren't exactly great typists though - maybe it'll take them 3 minutes to type out everything they want to say, by which point they'll have lost whatever lead they're trying to carry with. When an ally is 7/0/0 and you're 0/3/0 it should be pretty apparent that your goal should be to let them carry, so going to 0/4/0 even for a 75% chance you get the kill and 25% chance you get killed (let's just say there's crit chance to make those numbers) ISN'T worth it.
The point of my post though is that people who get butt -hurt over a stop feeding comment have just as bad an attitude as the person who says it. They're not saying anything toxic like "you suck" "you're so bad you're only in this elo because people like new carry you" "go play normals scrub" etc... frankly, what they're saying could equally be taken to mean "look, I'm not going to act all high and mighty like i know best and tell you what to build our where to go, i don't main the role you're playing and i haven't been watching your Lane opponent's playstyle all game like you do and have been. I'm just telling you that we're still winning this game, I'm getting really fed, so i trust you can find something to do that won't result in their top laner getting strong enough to shut me down."
No one's going to type that. It's way too long, in game you're probably not even going to read it. If someone says "stop feeding" and otherwise hasn't been acting like a jerk all game, it says more about your personality if you instantly assume they're toxic than it says about theirs.
And your comments on carrying... some players are just uncarryable. Or more accurately some games some players play are not carryable. If they all were, a diamond 1 smurf would never lose games at silver and gold elo (which I've seen happen plenty of times, and I'm not talking about a random teammate claiming to be a smurf). You need your team to let you carry. At 6/3/0 with a team that's willing to listen to your calls and play defensively when you're not around you can carry a lot more easily than you can at 7/0/0 with a team who wants to go off and do their own thing.
And to conclude, of course teamwork is a skill, i don't understand how you think i even implied it wasn't. The player who's being told to stop feeding is in all likelihood more guilty of not executing teamwork than the "stop feeding" player though. Reevaluate your objectives, once your 0/2 in a solo Lane you should not leave your turret without jungle support or safe farming room and vision. If you've gotten to 0/4 you've failed to reevaluate that your team's current need is for you to not feed and your allies to carry (only exception being when everyone is 0/2).
I never meant to imply that you think the "stop feeding" guy is a good person. I meant to demonstrate that there is literally no useful information in the phrase. You know that whole "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" phrase? Yeah. It's useful. If you can't take the time to type something actually productive, don't type at all. Like I said, it's more likely to be counterproductive. And if you want someone to mmake less risky plays, "just try and farm; we got a lead already" is pretty succinct.
And being "butt-hurt" isn't having a bad attitude for several reasons. First off, assuming they're toxic merely says they're extrapolating from a very toxic community. Seriously, given what I've seen, the probability that someone intends toxicity with the phrase "stop feeding" is drastically higher than the probability that they aren't. Again, there are better ways of phrasing it and with this community, I give no blame for that assumption. Either way, if you can't take the time to say anything useful, don't say it.
I never said we could win all games. Of course you're right; your team needs to cooperate for you to carry. But let me ask you, how do you guarantee cooperation? Better yet, what are you doing to improve the probability that your team listens to you? That's part of that skill we call teamwork. Coordinating a team can be just as much coaxing your team into accepting your calls as making the right calls. If your team always wants to go off and do their own thing... There are 4 of them. If none of them want to listen to you, maybe you're not phrasing it the best you can?
And a 0/4 player isn't necessarily bad at teamwork. Laning phase is a lot of solo work, depending on your jungler and mid. They might have poor mechanics. Maybe they do need to reevaluate their objectives. But they're not deliberately screwing over the team and making them upset isn't going to help them.
EDIT: I'd also like to note that regardless of the feeding player... Whether they're "bad at teamwork," have a "bad attitude" for getting upset or otherwise, you can't actually control them. You can only control yourself. You should take responsibility for how what you say and do affects them and, by extension, affects your team. If you can't do that, then you're just frankly very bad at teamwork.
Actually, there is a lot advice in "stop feeding". It literally means stop dying. So just stop dying.
OK, I'll just afk then. Problem solved, right?
Would certainly help :) Would have helped more if ya afk before feeding.
No matter what, if someone says "stop feeding" you should get the point. It doesn't matter if they took a rude approach on it or didn't give actual advice, because you know exactly what they mean when they say stop feeding. Either accept the fact that you are feeding and play smart and under tower, or brush it off and continue dying.
"Stop feeding" isn't productive because... Well, how? How do you want me to stop feeding exactly? The 2-0 Riven can burst me out under turret while I'm knocked up/stunned. Sure there are things I can do: let turret go, build more armor or health (depending on which I have more of), gank mid to avoid being in lane, etc. But these things aren't always immediately obvious. And if they are, they're not always the right decision (losing 2 top turrets early sucks. Feeding sucks. Which sucks less?). It's just NOT productive.
This. I got reported by an Udyr because I told him we couldn't win if he kept feeding Irelia. He was 1/8/0 and still building full AD. I told him to buy AR and he would be a tremendous helps in teamfights and might even be able to 1v1 Irelia. He told me to stfu, I got reported probably by multiple teammates that game, and later got chat restricted.
Advice =/= Toxicity. I want at least a chance to win the game.

Not saying I'm not toxic sometimes, as is everyone, but that seems ridiculous that you got chat restricted off one game.
Unlikely it was this one game, but I get chain chat restricted for saying nothing worse than please stop feeding. I never tell someone to kill themself, that they suck, etc. I only offer constructive criticism and advice for how to work together to win the game, yet I'm constantly restricted.
Nooo you have it all wrong.
(7/0/0) "Stop FEEDING"
(0/4/29) "Bruh"
Sounds about right lol
actually no, they are saying that to make you realize how much you suck.
True, that's a pretty useless and hateful comment, but I am usually met with much more hateful comments from players if I tell them to play defensive and to upgrade their trinket, although I mostly play normals but still.
I'm sorry it sucks when someone says that, because you're already losing hope and starting to give up.
The advice in this thread is good, but I want to stress how much more important it is that you lose a tower instead of your life. If you know you can't safely farm under a tower, like there's a level difference against someone who can dive, then abandon that tower. We all lose our lane badly sometimes, but it's important to pick yourself up and try to assist your teammates in making it to late game, especially if that's when someone on your team spikes in power. Also remember, auras and wards are OP. If someone is comfortably carrying the game, then support them and get CS when you can.
Sometimes it's necessary. Some people just need to be yelled at to realize "oh crap I really am doing badly... I need to step it up if we want to win." You might think, "dude, they already know they're doing badly"; however, if they choose to make the same mistakes over and over, they have forfeited any right to not be called out for their actions. If you're playing a team game and you're screwing the team over, it's your duty to listen if your teammates tell you to stop feeding and play safe for the love of God.
Unfortunately, Riot's stupid automated system will restrict you for it if enough people report you for being "negative." Thx Rito.
Then say, "if you're having trouble try farming under turret" and not "omfg stop feeding ffs"

Then say, "if you're having trouble try farming under turret" and not "omfg stop feeding ffs"
I have actually found that sometimes a forceful plea is necessary. As in, "Dude seriously; for the love of God STOP suiciding."
There was one ranked game where our ADC Lucian was fairly ahead early and our team was stronger, but he got all cocky and started playing sloppily and threw several opportunities for objectives. He wouldn't listen, and so I snapped and yelled at him in all Caps to "STOP DOING STUPID STUFF AND THROWING OUR LEAD FFS". It wasn't trolling; it was necessary. And though Lucian did get mad at me for it, he did end up listening to me, and at the end of the game he thanked me for yelling at him to stop. He said "sorry, I guess I needed somebody to slap some sense into me lol".
I guess can work for some people. I haven't see a case where it worked out like that but then again I don't play much ranked.
I have been restricted from talking in games when I rarely type anything at all. I started to turn off the All-chat and will end up muting my team. Wish I didn't have to but the people get me depressed from the negativity.
When I see people feeding it's often because they hang out in lane with very dangerous low health hoping to get that kill shot....bad move I always tell them go back if you get low. But half of these noobs don't or refuse to listen. Because they think getting as many deaths as kills is worth.
Depends on the champ.... a low health Renekton is a dangerous thing to in for, for example. I stay specifically low on renek at times so the person get's hungry i stun > Dash to minions > Q to heal > proceed to rekt them.
And that takes skill which a majority of bronze players lack...let's be real here.

i used to play support with my friend who did that. really annoying. he doesn't know when to go back
Try just farming under tower. Gets dove by 4 people.
OK just take a jungle camp. Gets ganked at krugs.
"No more advice please." Felt bad for my top laner when this happened, he was actually a real nice guy.

You have a shield. Why are you dying?
The adc has 0 deaths, yet the support that has a passive that slows/stuns has died.
Do the math.
Braum is a hero.

I was kind of trolling. OBVIOUSLY Braum's putting his neck out there. If it were me, I wouldn't even risk dying that much. That Vayne was lucky.
I actually had a similar scenario with a trash Jinx once. Worked my @$$ off keeping her alive. Even managed to get her fed. But by the nerf bat, if she didn't make me want to go top lane.
Support Problems.

I can easily cough up a story about a sorry ass support...or another story about a sorry ass adc. Bad adcs are support problems just like bad supports are adc problems. It's a 2-man lane. If someone's doing bad, it's definitely the other guy's problem.
My problem isn't with people being bad. You have to learn somehow; and everyone is entitled to an off-day. It's when they're bad, get carried, then act like Morello's gift to league.
I guess my previous post didn't effectively convey that. :/

Like I said, I had supports do that too. The one that pissed me off the most was a Sona that got herself killed 4 times in lane, abandoned me for top lane, and STILL DIED TWO MORE TIMES. Game ends, I'm 12/2/x, and she still has the audacity to talk to me about the laning phase she fked up...on the support I main when I'm not playing Jinx. Like...the sheer amount of anger...
Some people don't understand just how bad their feeding is to the team as a whole. It's really bad when one dude can feed that one top laner so hard that what would have been an easy win turns into a complete loss or a huge struggle. If you died two times in a solo lane, be patient and wait for help because you already lost lane. Don't even think about going toe-to-toe with the opponent unless your jungler is nearby to save you.
The problem is either no one wants to help you, or their efforts are made in vain.
"Stop feeding" is basically short for, whatever is getting you killed you need to watch out for, hug turret, ward appropriately, and if that doesn't work request some help from your jungler to put pressure on your lane. A lot of the time people feed because they are making mistakes and not learning and once you give those kills your lane can and usually will become unwinnable and your enemy lane opponent very very hard to beat for the rest of your team. When an enemy is fed it is frustrating to play against, and with increased frustration comes increased salt levels, which can make you say and do mean things, anyone who has ever played with a feeding/troll teammate knows what I mean. The thing is that if you are trying your best and playing as safely as possible and things are still going downhill and your teammate is still being a douche use the mute button it's there for that purpose. If things are really getting out of hand the game will end at 20 (usually) and you will never see that person ever again.
it covey's a lot of tones and they all are negative. None of the people that are told to "stop feeding" or something similar are thinking jee what a good idea I better play more careful. Most people instantly think the person who said that is a asshole and rightly so. People who are dieing a lot in a match know that they are causing problems. Telling them information in a "you" manner just tends to make them frustrated from doing poorly and defensive. Saying "we" statements diffuses situations and leads to better team work. So saying things like "we need to focus x" or "we need to get better vision" or even "we need to play safer so we can get a comeback". Even if only one person is a problem it goes a long way and makes everything go way smoother. One way makes people angry and defensive and one way tends to diffuse situations.
You also have to remember that most of the early game is very individualized except for bot lane for obvious reasons. pre-minute 15 especially on top lane is relying on yourself to protect/carry yourself so that you can reach team time. I'm not saying what he said was right, I'm just saying how you should deal with it when somebody says it. I don't understand all the downvotes though :/
the down votes come from the way you describing it just now and what you said earlier not conveying the same message. The first post came across as justifying people that say dumb things. This post I am responding to is partly conveying the same thing but it also back tracks and says that saying things like "stop feeding" are wrong. So your downvotes are from people feeling like you were trying to justify statements that are offensive.
People aren't all white knights who uphold an immense pillar of understanding, I was saying that people say these things and that you shouldn't take it personally but instead try and do something differently so that you aren't dying. I know how bad it feels to be called a bad things for making a few mistakes, but I always know how it feels when you are doing your best and doing great but your teammates are suiciding into the enemy without learning from their mistakes. I'm feeling for both sides and promoting understanding of why people say and do certain things in game, something that apparently is over everyone's head. I guess I more hope in the community then I should have. People can say "They are saying that to make you realize how much you suck" and get upvotes but I try and give decent advice to try and help people and get downvotes, gg wp.
I understand what you were trying to say but you didn't convey it very well. Your original post did not convey what you wanted it to. It conveyed justification of people saying stupid stuff. Your post would have been much better received if you had framed it saying that you should not react to things like that and instead use it as a way of learning but then also clarify that it by no means justifies what was said in the first place.
The problem we have here is the exact same thing with the problem of people saying "stop feeding" or "stop going in 1 v 5" etc. What you meant was vastly different then how the majority of people interpreted what you said. If you want to give advice you need to first make sure people understand your point. You didn't do that so people thought you were saying something that you didn't intend. So you need to find a way to make it so the audience you are trying to reach understands you otherwise everything you say is at best pointless or at worse offensive.
maybe she should roam to aid you then bitch at u. feels u mayne
"Why weren't you playing defensive?"
WHAT DO YOU CALL FARMING UNDER TOWER THEN, PRAY TELL?
sounds like you're just upset someones pointing out your badness
What else is there to say. You're never gonna see this feeder again, and he solely exists to lose you lp.
Since when is "Stop feeding" bad advice? Sometimes in a match, you are busy and don't have time to tell your teammates how to play this game. IMO stop feeding delivers a message.. to stop doing the shitty things you've been doing that have landed you in the hole you're in.
The problem comes in when... the people who are feeding don't know how to stop feeding. They don't know how to ward properly, how to not overextend, how to turret farm, how to ping when the enemy laner is overextended, etc. This is, of course, a lack of knowledge of how to play the game. In game is often not the time to teach people how to play.
Amen. God bless.
