Can Mercury Threads get +5 MR. , since everyone lost 12 from base?

Sujiren··59 votes·1,672 views

I feel like with everyone loosing so much base magic resist and with additional buffs done to void staff, this would be a good change. Tabi already felt stronger than mercs majority of the time and this small buff, could slightly even out the playing field when choosing which tier 2 boots to build.

No, since mages lost magic pen...

Acheron164 votes

Where? Void staff still gives total MR penetration, Sorcerer's Shoes got buffed, base MR is lower because people used to build MR runes all the time, most abilities got their base damage buffed...

Show me how mages got nerfed in your view.

kattzkitti9 votes

Mages lost Mpen from runes. Granted, they now get a bunch of AP from level 1, so it's debateable whether it's a buff or nerf. However, his point was that mages lost Mpen, and that is objectively true.

EkyonKun2 votes

Lost 7.83 from marks Lost 1.75 - 6 from precision (based on level ofc) OR lost 5% from Piercing Thoughts (Depends on DFT or TLD users)

Gained 3 from Sorcerer Shoes Gained 5% from void staff

Oh and mages can't typically utilize Sudden Impact considering most are immobile. So in total it's 6.58 - 10.83 less magic pen depending on level for TLD users, though gaining 5% bonus pen, and a flat 4.83 less pen for DFT users (Technically gained 0.45% magic pen, though).

This is all assuming EVERY mage that took TLD or DFT also bought Void Staff and Sorcerer Shoes.

TLD mages also got nerfed considering they can't use Domination Tree very well

NineTailedMystic1 votes

? Domination should be fine for traditional Mages. Cheap shot or Fresh Blood, Zombie Ward/Ghost Poro/Eyeball Collection can all be put to use, and all 3 Bounty Hunter runes can be put to good use as well. The only Domination rune traditional Mages can't use in some real way is Sudden Impact.

Pretty sure he's saying it's net 0.

But going the flat pen route is now expressly for dealing damage to squishy champs not building MR. Same goes for lethality vs armor.

So by actually buying an MR item like merc treads you are picking to try and out do their purchase. Similar to buying an early chain vest or tabis back in the league of lethality.

plus merc treads feel pretty shit to buy atm, what with just about everyone having CC to chain cc you, and more than half of it being a knock-up or displacement.

Merc's should be more of an Anti Magic damage item than a MR+CC protecting item. I wouldn't mind to see it getting a split where We get two kinds of boots. One that resists CC and give bit of HP and one that grants a lot of MR or an ability that reduces burst Mr damage.

mini hexdrinker shield on a tier 2 boots xd

how about no

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

But other champs that deal magic damage but didn't take magic pen are now dealing more damage than before.

Tanks don't need more MR because tanks have Aftershock.

Assassins have item 3155 , so do divers.

Juggernauts get a lot of power out of item 3065 .

Supports have item 3222 , which is quite a lot of MR for its price range.

Mages have a big chunk of MR with item 3102 .

The only class that doesn't have an easy MR item right now is marksmen, and that's good because marksmen need to die.

An Undead brat4 votes

Implying ADCs can't have item 3155 and there's no item 3139 .

The Yetii Rider4 votes

Marksmen cannot buy Hexdrinker without a substantial cost to them. The item only offers raw AD and no lifesteal. There is a genuine price to pay when you rely on multiplicative stats and you buy multiple items that do not offer those stats (Greaves only offers AS but it still takes up an item slot).

An Undead brat4 votes

Nice to have full crit itemization if you get oneshot, everyone with half a brain would trade one slot that even gives stats you all want if it makes you immortal.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

Oh they do. And that one item slot is reserved for item 3026 , nine times out of ten. item 3155 does not go here.

Also, marksmen lose another item slot for their multiplicative scaling when they have to buy item 3035 .

RocketRelm2 votes

I would argue that Last Whisper is also multiplicative scaling. At least against tanks.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

Buying Last Whisper increases your damage done to tanks but decreases your damage done to everyone else, compared to what you could have spent that item slot and gold on. There's a cost and benefit to it. If your opponent has Last Whisper, you have essentially always decreased his damage to your team, even when you are not in a fight.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Marksmen don't really build GA actually, but the slot is more like second zeal, ER, LW, or lifesteal.

An Undead brat1 votes

OIf course because GA saves you from both types of damage and AP is trash anyway, why would you even bother with Hexdrinker when you can just grab GA? Maybe if your retarded midlaner overfeeds enemy AP or you do it yourself, shame you should face the consequences of this but instead you just completely nullify them with one fking orange knife.

AirKingNeo1 votes

And then lose out on so much damage and lifesteal?

Oh wait, you're that really bias Zyra main.

An Undead brat1 votes

Yeah, except they don't actually lose any damage and Lifeline of MoM even gives you lifesteal AND spellvamp so shove your "oh wait" up to your ass because you are talking bullshit.

To your previous comment: Just played against Twitch as Lux. He bursted me faster than I would burst him, I had armor item, he had no MR, but instead he had GA. What could I do?

Combo him to see him MAYBE die IF he didn't lifesteal the damage inbetween OR didn't kill me instead AND THEN I could die as he would get his second life OR I could use Zhonya to survive 2.5 seconds longer and get into the first scenario anyway.

Wow I'm so biased there's no way he'd be in extremely better position just because he's AD and I was AP, not in any way!

AirKingNeo1 votes

ADCs have to build IE, a zeal, a zeal or an essence reaver, a lifesteal item, and a last whisper item. MercScem already significantly reduces the damage and lifesteal you have compared to other options, as shown by its purchase rate. Considering this staple build for an ADC, where is the room for a Maw? Do note Maw is garbage late game.

Now, considering these facts, how is an ADC not losing significant damage?

To your previous comment: Just played against Twitch as Lux. He bursted me faster than I would burst him, I had armor item, he had no MR, but instead he had GA. What could I do?

You gave too little information. What level were you? What level was he? How fed was he? How fed were you? What items did each of you have? What runes did you have? Was it early game? Mid game? Late game? Also do note Lux is just a bad champion and you shouldn't expect much from her, similar to me with Karma supports.

Consider these current MR changes as backward compensation to the +0.5 MR/lv.

Also I smell bias.

The Yetii Rider2 votes

How is it biased to say marksmen need to die? They are a class that builds maybe a single defensive item while having terrible base stats. If they aren't dying, there's a problem, like people were bitching about for most of season 7.

Champion Skin2 votes

Yes if marksmen aren't dying they either have their team protecting them.... the enemy or the enemy isn't diving them and rather focus on protecting their own marksman

As marksmen damage scale the hardest and they usually builds the least defensive items making them the biggest damage threat and the one that's easiest to kill so obviously they usually end up as priority number one on the kill list which and with the enemy team focusing on killing the marksman one would expect them to end up dying at least a couple of times

AirKingNeo1 votes

Could it be that assassins and divers generally suck and supports are extremely overpowered?

Who knew other classes, like support, affect other classes.

I just wish there was an AD alternative to item 3170.

The Yetii Rider5 votes

You mean item 3139 ?

kattzkitti1 votes

item 3139 is an alternative to summoner 1. item 3170 is entirely unique as of this point in time.

I just miss Zephyr. Really good item for fighters.

What makes me sad is zephyr was removed before item 1052 was a thing so it lacks an Icons which prevented me from just putting 6 of them next to a Teemo

Mercury Treads should have a more useful passive that people besides juggs and bruisers would want. They have Sterak's now. Let's get something that helps us against mages like a passive magic shield like Galio's W passive or something like that.

Acheron162 votes

Given how irrelevant tenacity is becoming (what, with everyone and their grandmother having displacements intead of stuns) I tend to agree.

RocketRelm1 votes

How about tacking on "Gives +20% move speed for 1 second after being knocked up for more than 0.25 seconds"? (The clause is so stupid things like trundle pillar nicking you isn't a net gain)

AirKingNeo1 votes

Sterak's isn't even enough for bruisers to break through CC chains.

Mercs are currently troll build because you need Tabi 99/100 times.

Yeah so you can't really access the tenacity anyway. I feel this on more champs than just bruisers because Tabi is just so much better.

That's why I'm saying it should give some actual protection against magic damage.

Crazy idea, what if item 3009 became the dedicated anti-CC boots and had some CC protection in addition to the slow resist, and then item 3111 can be anti-magic

TheGoddessBell1 votes

No one uses those, they don't need anything.
