Kog'Maws ult should be 40 mana per continuous cast like before.

After what they did to his ult damage being useful only at 25%. Having to wait a long time to cast a lack luster ult to preserve mana isn't really satisfying.

The bigger problem is that the damage is pathetic unless they have already been poked down or engaged on by someone else. I'd gladly pay more mana if the ult. was actually good but it's worse than before for normal situations. The W is worse too without AS/on-hit items and costs mana now.

But 5.0 attack speed with 2% HP damage per hit!

Over six seconds, comes out to 60% max HP damage over the duration of the skill.

The old Kog with 2.5 attack speed and 6% max HP damage per hit over 8 seconds would do 120% max HP damage given the same item loadout.

Aren't nerfs wonderful?

I'm quite sure Riot doesn't nerf anyone or anything.

They "compensate".

It was also a lot more forgiving. With the ult. nerfed hard but being a better execute tool, you're often baited to trying to get low targets. Then, due to the mana cost nerfs, you realize you're OOM but UNLIKE BEFORE, you can't even use W. You're completely useless at that point. Really though, I like champions with high mana costs as long as those skills are game changing and super strong. Sadly, this isn't usually the case for Kog.

It's not a nerf. You have 5 chances to crit per second. With 100% crit chance, you get 30 Crits over the duration, which is about 140% of your AD with Infinity Edge.

Not to mention his E is 120 mana lvl 5. Have mercy.

RIP AP Kog.

He's not entirely gutted if that's what you mean. He just needs a little boost but not to the point where he ends up over buffed.

His main post-6 damage tool got gutted, though. Unless they're already below 50%, you're gonna be barely scratching people. And because of its low AP Ratio, it's probably better to get extra-effects-on-hit types of rush items now

To begin with, Rylai's/Luden's was always core, but now you probably need to get Liandry's over DCap, finishing with Void Staff, forgoing Zhonya's entirely

Core items are pen boots, and your source mana item like RoA, Morello, Athene's or Tear (I'm partial to Tear myself, though; best-in-slot AP out of the 4, big mana boost and a defensive shield).

You can probably afford to drop pen boots for dcap or zhonya's in lategame, since if anything scratches you you'll be dead anyway by lategame

i'd actually prefer haveing the 'cd' lowered back to 6sec. shooting a salvo of 2-4 ults to finish of a target and then waiting for the manacosts to reset seems way more fitting to the new ult.

If Kog's Ult scaled with missing HP smoothly (2.667% bonus damage per 1% HP missing) it would reach +200% damage at the same threshold as Live, but it would be WAY more useful at all other times.

You must not understand that Kog doe 55% AD when W's active. His crits. tickle and don't synergize well with W. On-hits make much more sense because they aren't reduced.

Have you even bothered doing the math on this? Because I have (being an AP Kog'maw main).

With 1800 mana, old Kog could cast his ult 9 times in a row before going OOM. New Kog'maw gets 8. With 2200 mana, old Kog gets 10, new Kog gets 9.

Now I wouldn't complain if they changed it, but I think you are overstating the significance of the mana cost change.
