okay I'm close to abandoning this game

as much as i like a lot of things RIOT is doing (new map, intresting new champions, more music etc) i am sick of the balance of this game. RIOT is destroying this game, slowly but surely, and if that doesnt change it will go downhill really soon. i am worried for the future of the game that i have been playing for a long time, the game i invested a fair amount of money into. it is not just me, many people are recently complaining and the boards are full of posts like these. RIOT has to stop prioritising LCS so much, the big champions that are seen often in competitive get all the buffs and meanwhile all the champions that have never even been mentioned in the LCS remain untouched for years, and the result is a big mess. like really big. champs are pretty much split into viable and useless. champs like Lee Sin who are played often in the LCS remain in their broken state, while champions that you only see in low elo and normal games get nerfed again and again (Sona anyone?). in the end we will just have 20 champions that will be played and the rest will just be there to decorate the store and the champions page on the profile.

RIOT has to balance things out and realise that LCS in not everything, and fast, or i can predict a bad ending to all this.

I think you are preaching to the choir on this one. From what I'm seeing the majority of the people passionate enough to post have a negative impression of RIOT and their seeming "obsession" with the LCS. I can understand it to a point as they are hoping they can create something like Magic: the Gathering. A game that came out in 1989 and is still going today with a pro circuit and tournaments all over the world.

With LoL having already existed for 5 years and a fanbase that supposedly has reached 6 million worldwide, I can understand RIOT believing that a push might get them a permanent placement in the world of professional sports. The fact that a couple of third tier colleges have announced scholarships for LoL players only adds to the image that the game might end up off the internet and onto a cable TV channel in the near future.

The problem is that I get a feeling that RIOT doesn't have any cynics on staff. They don't have the man who is standing in the chariot next to the victorious general whispering "remember thou art mortal" continuously and forcing them to step back and look at what they are building. Right now the LCS and its popularity appear to be standing on a foundation of sand. It is holding, but if the fanbase decides to formally revolt and look at one of the other MOBAs out there, LoL could find itself without enough fans to pay for their esport branch and that would mean no new players. As it is I can say that the game is very unwelcoming to a new player right now. I have stuck it out mostly thanks to years of playing MMOs and a very thick skin when it comes to taunts and insults, but I can see that many kids who might like this game would be driven away by the toxic community and extremely high skill cap for many of the champs. The fact that the game is unbalanced in a way that takes time to figure out is only more likely to drive new players away. I can't count the number of Master Yi players I've seen who clearly play him because he's cheap in IP and supposedly easy to pick up. I can tell the new ones from the truly experienced ones because the good ones go 22/2/3 while the new ones go 1/17/3. I'm sure the new ones end up feeling like they can never succeed after a few disasters like that.
