Can Fiora get the Ekko treatment?

FastAsHeck··96 votes·4,971 views

Remember when Tank Ekko was dominant that Riot nerfed his base damage really hard, and increased the scalings? That was to make Ekko forced to build damage if he wanted damage.

I don't see a reason Fiora can build like a Juggernaut, deal the damage of an assassin and have massive survivability due to her W and situationaly her ult. This needs to be fixed and I think my suggestion is a good place to start. Thanks for reading.

Agreed. I'm tired of how oppresive Fiora feels right now. Even if she loses early, she scales so hard it won't matter. Even really tanky she does more damage than a majority of other tops simply due to her free true damage.

The thing is that Fiora's base damage is already low (they nerfed it before exactly because Fiora could build tanky while still doing damage)

The problem is that no matter how much they nerf Fiora's base damage, she will always be able to build somewhat tanky because once she gets one or two AD items, she has a lot of % max HP true damage. With that, she doesn't need to build penetration. This allows her to build tanky because she doesn't have to spend gold on penetration items. And also because her damage will work against everyone no matter how tanky they are because it is based on a percentage of their health.

It is honestly an issue that I don't think that Riot could easily solve because it has to do with the way that her passive works. But Riot can't just simply remove the % max HP true damage, unfortunately... because without that she loses her ability to do anything against anyone that is tanky.

Verxint3 votes

She also doesn't need attack speed because shes full of attack resets.

Retillin5 votes

Why not change it to % current instead of % max, and then raise the scaling? Hell you could even the % be mixed dmg after this if Riot is scared of forcing her to build armour pen.

Remlap12235 votes

You know what that means. She needs ANOTHER rework.

FastAsHeck1 votes

yep probably lol

Isn't a solution to this problem, since she's suppost to be a light squish fighter with incredibly AD scaling, to make her passive scaling increase with how much AD you build? Right now it has scaling that increases with level, but they should have a second modifier that increases it if you build AD, that way they can nerf the passive for tank Fiora, but still reward her for building offensively.

SoMNia5 votes

Fiora already has low base numbers and high scalings. She is already forced to build damage if she wants damage. She doesn't have assassin damage with a juggernaut build. Most of her damage comes from the fact that a 2k health enemy will take true damage in excess of her bonus AD with every vital — and that's if she's allowed to hit the vitals. If you wanted to nerf her, the best way would be to trim the scaling on her passive. But I'm still not convinced that she needs it. She already has plenty of counterplay and is fairly gold dependent/"feast-or-famine", because her damage relies on bonus AD.

I don't see a problem for this reasoning for Fiora, although I do want to point out that Ekko's damage wasn't nerfed in the patch you are talking about. 5.15 reduced the base shield on his W and the base heal on his R and compensated for it with ratio adjustments to both of them such that you had to build AP in order to get the value out of them that you wanted.

FastAsHeck1 votes

I might be wrong in my post then. I don't remember, I play a bit of Ekko but I picked him up after the changes. I just vaguely remember that he was a very strong tank in the LCS so they nerfed bases and buffed scalings.

Zantumall4 votes

Why are there suddenly all these threads about tank Fiora? She's not good built tank. She certainly doesn't "do the damage of an assassin" built tank. Her base damages are all low and her scalings are high. She needs to build damage to do damage.

When Fiora's rework first released, I had fun playing her glass cannon, even if I got stomped for it. Now, I'd get ridiculed and shamed for building her the way she was intended to be built; not what's the best optimal build for broken reasons. I still build her glass cannon, though, but... I'm a hipster rebel. :x

Fiora is beautiful. She's fun to play, her ult is one of the hardest to get solo and she doesn't need a rework. You can counter the heck out of a Fiora with a gangplank (which I did today) or a champion with good crowd control.

SirHeavyScrotum5 votes

You do realize that Fiora is widely considered to be a Gangplank counter by everyone whose opinion matters right? She can W his barrels which makes it too easy to avoid his primary source of damage, her early lane is too strong for him to farm through, and she's so mobile she can dodge the barrels she doesn't W. There's really nothing a Gangplank can do vs a Fiora. In fact the other day I saw CLG Darshan be way ahead of a Fiora on Gangplank due to his team helping him out and still got solo killed afterwards, the matchup is that heavily leaned in Fiora's favor. Also if good crowd control is all that's necessary to counter a Fiora, why does she hard counter Sion? Or any other tank that has CC for her to stun you with and lots of health for her to shred? Of course she's fun to play, every champion that has an overloaded kit is, and she's even more fun because she's too strong and you can stomp pretty much any lane.

I'm not saying that gangplank is a superior being to Fiora. But I just played a game as gangplank against Fiora. He was a level 5 Fiora (I know it doesn't mean much but it at least means you know mechanics). Early game she was hard to lane against, but the second I got a Tri Force I was wrecking her. You can poke with your Q, land a few barrels and slash with the flaming sword and she's dead. Her reposte has a long cool down. Make her use it on a single barrel, guess what, you have 2-3 more ready to go. Her dash has to be used to engage or disengage, if used to engage then back off, she can't out run your barrel chain, and you can Q her from a safe distance, to where she can't even reach you with a Q. I'm new to gangplank, maybe 10 games played but I did not feel out of place against Fiora. Keep her crit point on your backside by backing out of frame till it resets. Your oranges give you a boost of speed and heal and slashing a barrel lets you out run her Q any day of the week. I don't see how you can think he can't counter her.

Serika Zero2 votes

Question, did the Fiora in your game have Undying Grasp mastery? Also, did she rush Titanic Hydra?

If the 2 above didn't happen, then it means that Fiora had wrong masteries and wrong build path from the start. Also, note, I had (ofc, still have) lv5 mastery on Fiora....................... the old Fiora that had Blade Waltz and was deleted reworked. The new Fiora, I think I've only played her 5 times outside of bot games

Personal experience have nothing to do with the state of balance for a given champion. Also, your match against Fiora had nothing to do with you vs Fiora, Fiora's bot lane was 0/10/1 combined with an 0/6/4 lane Kindred. Kalista also had TP+Heal. Fiora also had way more farm than you did and was positive with a feeding team. So, she would have probably won that match if her team mates weren't trolling honestly, so lets not pretend you even did well against her when she obviously destroyed you.

SirHeavyScrotum1 votes

Yeah like other people have said, personal experience in one game doesn't account for much. You're explaining all of these things like I don't know what the champions do, but in reality I have way more games on Gangplank than you. You usually only have 2-3 barrels to start with in your early laning phase, as you can't store that many and don't have the CDR to regen them quickly, so if you chain 2 of them together you probably only have 1 left. Yes you can poke with Q but her all-in is much stronger than yours and can easily jump on top of a GP after making him miss the barrel and kill him. You won one game, but Fiora is generally picked as a counter to GP.

FastAsHeck1 votes

gangplank is terrible against fiora. He isn't so much about straight up 1v1 duels, but he is focused around his barrels and kiting around them while blowing them up. Fiora is too sticky for him, and blocking a single barrel can win the duel. Doesn't help that gangplank has no escape except speed boosts and oranges, which is useless against fiora since she will just chase you with her Q, passive movespeed and E slow.

Helmight2 votes

I think the issue is that so much of Fiora's damage is effectively free. Most of her damage comes from autoattacks - which don't have scalings - and her passive giving her %max HP true damage. The only thing Riot could hit is her Q's AD scaling, which isn't even the issue.

In all honesty, I'd be happy if Fiora's Vitals were changed to ignore a percentage of her opponent's armor instead of doing true damage a la Gangplank. It's a similar feeling, but could be more easily balanced that way.

So ADCs are the strongest early game dudes out there, since most of their damage (with 3 exceptions or so) comes from auto attacks? If anything, auto attacks are one of the abilities that scale insanely good into late game. That's why adcs are kings and queens of late game (if you can peal for them)

Yes because tanks are the ones trying to go around 1v1ing everybody, not fighters who build low resistances and health in favor of damage. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Serika Zero5 votes

Riot wanted her to be one of the best split push champions. If the enemy tank can stop you to split push with ease, it makes her weak at split pushing. Why her and not: MasterYi Udyr Tryndamere Aatrox Singed or whatever, I do not know.

her team fight is mediocre to begin with, the Original Fiora had Blade Waltz, which was her team fight saving grace. And no CD between Q recast (you could've Qed twice in under 1 second). The new Fiora in team fights........ she needs to be feed to be dangerous. Otherwise she can be easily killed by the adc.

Your gap closer also has limited range, so the surprise factor (without LCS organized team play flank wards) is low.

SirHeavyScrotum1 votes

that's kind of the point of the post, her new tanky build means that she can't easily be killed my an adc

Serika Zero3 votes

ADC's job is to kill tanks, do dps. If you can't kill the poor "tank" Fiora. How in the name of god will you ever be able to kill true tanks like: Maokai DrMundo Illaoi Malphite Nautilus Singed Sion TahmKench etc

Fiora has no "defense steroid" that gives her extra hp/mr/armor/tenacity. She has only 0.75seconds of blocking EVERYTHING, and then 15-9 cooldown on it. Which means, if you don't waste your burst on her. You get full damage on her. Nasus has a lot of life steal from his passive + his E destroys auto attack based champions in mid to late game. Maokai has an ult that reduces damage + easy heal Mundo press R and you do no damage to him Illaoi again, huge heal from ult + w + q + e Malphite has extra shield, might not do much, but he also has AS slow in an area. And an insanely easy engage. Nautilus is the king of CC in this game. Stun for days, grabs, drags, slows. Name it. To boot he has huge base damages when his shield is up. Singed has his passive. Sion has shield and passive that gives extra hp Tahm has 2 hp bars.

Fiora? Fiora has to dance around you, hit vitals to get any life steal, and even that is mediocre. Yes, if she hits all 4 in her ult, she will get a lot of heal back, especially if tank Fiora. And yes, she has a AS slow on a skill shot, which is difficult to hit.

Compare that with Nasus's which is press point and click E. Or Malph. He has point and click dive ultimate that knocks up everyone in range, then ofc you are in range for the AS debuff. On the other hand Nautilius. He has a skill shot, but even if u dodge it. If it hits anything near you. Now the big bad Nautilius is near you, stuns you, slows you, and stuns everyone else that's near you + huge base damage with shield up. Oh and point and click knock up ultimate that follows you even in hell, which also allow easy Q skill shot.

So, lets recap. If you can't kill Fiora (especially tank Fiora), as an ADC. You need to learn how to play. If you are anything but the adc, its not your responsibility to kill her. Your job might be to peal, make sure you do that ;) Or again, learn how to play. And these learn how to play, is not flame. Its serious critique, you need to figure out how to properly kill tanks as adcs. By all means, if you could hit a squishy target that's out of position as ADC. Hit that target, but if that target gets out of your range. You need to reevaluate fast enough and switch target. The biggest thing for ADC is positioning.

AVL Prince4 votes

Except not only does fiora typically not fill the tank position on your team, but she brings a large degree of raw damage to the table that the rest of these tanks simply cannot compete with.

Simply put, she is an assassin, serving an assassin's role, with the build of a tanky dps and the required resistances to soak up the same amount of damage a tank/bruiser would in that same position.

This is bad - if I'm an adc output shittons of damage, but I melt like butter, and you output shittons of damage except your melting point is more akin to tempered iron? It doesn't take a genius to figure out who is going to win that fight.

Serika Zero1 votes

Feel free to do the math yourself and you will see that Fiora with TANK build will not do enough damage to rival even a fighter, let alone an assassin. Yes, I'm talking about actual math about fighting and using auto attacks and abilities.

Why are tanks strong at being tanky? Because they create major disturbance in the enemy team and they are hard to stop. Fiora out of her 0.75s major block has nothing to facilitate this. Meaning that pealing is something which will wreck her face. A Tristana will melt a full tank Nasus in like 3 seconds if he doesn't get to use his E on her. Same thing with Fiora, she will be destroyed if she goes "tank" mode. Because she will LACK the damage to be a big deal.

Current Fiora's entire damage is based around her Vital Spots. You can see it on the wiki: hitting a vital does 3% (+ 2.8% - 4.5% (based on level)% per 100 Bonus AD) of target's maximum health bonus true damage So, translation: 3% of the target's maximum hp as true damage And then in addition, 4.5% true damage of maximum hp as true damage for each 100 AD at lv 18. A tank build Fiora has like: item 3009 item 3748 item 3053 item 3065 item 3742 (item 3068 /item 3143) So, as far as AD goes she has only Hydra, Sterak and base states. Lets see: item 3748 50AD item 3053 +25% base AD (and eventually +25% base AD. Base ad: 116 at lv 116 I'll assume (being nice person) she gets 34 AD from runes. Total 230 AD without Sterak proc, and 260 with Sterak proc.

Total true damage she will do: 4.5+4.5+3 = 12% max hp true damage. Her ultimate procs 4 of those places. A total of 48% max hp true damage..... and its hard to hit all 4. Yes, Titanic Hydra will do heavy damage. But, not enough. Fiora will get melted down before she gets all 4 procs.

What an assassin can do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV24LvqZxuw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCSrrXu1f9M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpFd6IMNHhk

they kill you in 1 sec or less not enough for an adc to put even 3 auto attacks, fiora is different

SirHeavyScrotum1 votes

You do realize that a champion that deals % max health true damage will always deal damage no matter how they're built right?

SirHeavyScrotum1 votes

Aside from the raw factual errors or foresights you made when describing a number of those champions kits, as Prince Rivera pointed out it's not about Fiora being as tanky as Malphite or Tahm. It's that she's tanky enough to not die, but mobile enough and high enough damage output to kill most ADCs. Yeah an ADC can kill her in a hypothetical team fight where they get to stand in the backline with no one touching them, but if that is happening to you as Fiora you're the one who needs to learn how to play. Fiora either split pushes and is impossible to 1v1 or looks for a flank in a team fight to get to the carry, not stand in the frontline tanking a 6 item Kog'Maw. Besides don't you think it's a little pretentious to accuse me of being bad after reading my opinion on a champion?

Fiora isn't as tanky as the true tanks in the game, sure, but with her juggernaut build path that most professional and high elo players have been taking lately, she's too durable for the amount of damage she can dish out and the mobility she offers. If you ever get killed by an ADC in a teamfight as Fiora you probably played it wrong, either by going in too soon or not waiting until their teams major peel cooldowns are down.

So you like Fiora, I get it, but if she's supposed to be a good split pusher why make her a tank-shreder/team-healer/difficult-to-kill/hard-to-CC monster of a champion when all that is unnecessary to make her a good duelist.

Serika Zero1 votes

The thing is, as I mention before. A full tank Nasus, dies in about 3 seconds to a Tristana if he doesn't use his Weather on her. Fiora would die just as quick. Just tanky stats mean nothing is the enemy adc has good positioning. Also, QSS entirely negates her ultimate (which most ADCs build anyway).

Also, pro players play Fiora the next way: Titanic Hydra first build. Why? because the build bath and raw hp it gives early its amazing. Then you get Black Cleaver. And then, you switch to item 3074 And then it depends on the enemy team. Which is a "fighter", "bruiser" build. Similar to how Irelia or Jax . Which is 1-2 offensive items and then defensive stats. And as you see, there are other champions that build similar to this too. Be happy that Fiora doesn't build item 3124

I used to like the Original Fiora, a lot, as such I hate the new Fiora (its 100% a different hero). Though, at the same time I got counter picks against her and usually win hard against her (though, a perfect gank from the enemy jungler can fuck me over). I've tried to play her every now and then. Sure she's 'fun'. But not my type of champion.

SirHeavyScrotum1 votes

I don't think you've ever actually played ADC, tanks don't die nearly as quickly as you think they do. Armor is a really good stat. I mean eventually an ADC can kill a tank but it takes half a team working together. And it takes half a team to kill a Fiora right now, that's the problem. She's too potentially durable for the amount of damage, mobility, and utility she brings to the table. Other champions, such as Jax and Irelia also do that same thing but not nearly as well. Irelia and Jax bring arguably less mobility (though theirs does have a longer range, but is easier to peel after they use it), less utility for their team, and Jax is the only one that actually does as much damage is Fiora late game, but he has to take a riskier build to get to it as it takes him much longer to be tanky enough to skirmish and team fight, all he can do is 1v1 until 3 or 3 and a half items, as he's super squishy without his ult running. However if the Jax had to lane against a Fiora he probably won't deal as much damage as Fiora because he's gonna be behind. Jax into Fiora is really hard, as is Irelia into Fiora (though not as bad as the Jax matchup). This is once again because her build path provides a lot of durability without having to sacrifice damage.

Serika Zero1 votes

I main mid. And yes, good ADCs will melt tanks that fast on equal gold status unless the tanks use their "tank steroid". For Maokai is his ult, for Nasus as I keep repeating is his ATK SPEED SLOW debuff.

It doesn't take half the team to kill Fiora, it just takes a support/mid/top/jungle that can peal, an adc and 3 seconds. For example, if you play Poppy, if you see Fiora going towards your carry, just go near your ADC, do your shield and watch Fiora die. As simple as that.

ADCs do the biggest DPS. The downside of this is that they will die easy. Hence why, unless you are a good ADC player, you will stay stuff like: omg tank fiora does same damage as an assassin omg tanks are op, they build tanky and still kill me omg fighters are op, they build damage and also defense and they still kill me omg omg, sona is op her Q aa does 30% of my hp as damage, omg so op

Again, for ADCs positioning is crucial, and second thing is being able to switch targets. Not all players are able to do that. For example, me. How I play ADC in S4 and S5: Pick Sivir or Graves , group with team, press R+Q and hope its enough. Right now I do that with MissFortune . Group and press R. That's not good ADC player, even if you get kills, that's average/bad adc.

I've seen great adcs mains both in silver and gold. I've seen them hard carrying games. Their mechanics and positioning was really impressive. I usually was "omg, this guy" or "omg this girl" they are so much better than me. Oh right, I'm plat 4 (was, in s5 euw). But why these ADCs were not able to get out of silver/gold despite being so good? -their overall game decisions on macro level were generally bad -a lot of the times, their teams fail to peal for them

Who are my best win rate mid laners? Malzahar and Lulu. Why? Because with both of them, I take notice of whom is the feed/good/strong player in my team and PEAL for them. Protect them. If a Fiora jumps on my ADC and I'm Malzahar. She's suppressed under Null Zone and she dies, in 2 seconds. No, not thx to Malzahar's damage, but thx to that ADC auto attacking without a worry.

Look, an Assassin or a Fighter or a Tank. Their roles would be. Assassin: assassinate targets which can overall deal the most damage in the enemy team (which generally is an ADC or mid laner). In addition to this, flanking and bypassing enemy's defense lines. Fighter: quickly follow up on your team's engage (also called secondary engage). Or simply flanking and bypassing enemy's defense lines. Tanks: engage fights and jump on the enemy carry.

All of these want to jump and mostly kill the enemy carry. That's why, pealing. Someone to protect your carry is very important. Fiora on her own might be able to 1v1 a random ADC player with zero protection as full tank if she can parry usual ADC peal. For example, Tristana ultimate, Vayne condemn, Draven's axe thing. Since Fiora can't parry during Q animation, it takes outplaying for a Fiora to be able to 1v1 an adc as tank build. Yes, its possible. Its always possible for anyone to 1v1 anyone by outplaying.

Most adc love Vayne. Guess why? She has a lot of self peal. Just like Tristana or Lucian to some degree.

You're just saying stuff that remotely has to do with the topic... Lol. Okay bud, believe that Fiora isn't too strong, watch her get picked and banned in almost every LCS game and win pretty much every lane and continue to believe that.

Serika Zero1 votes

GP has 100% pick/ban rate and 100% win rate over both EU and NA LCS (TIP DEFEATED C9 WITH GP, that should send you a message) Fiora doesn't have that. Poppy right now its a big deal, as well. Multiple bans and constant picks (in multiple roles, top jungle sup). Fiora is on the low end of the spectrum compared to that. Lets not even try to talk about corki.............
