Pinging your Mana should tell allies the AMOUNT of Mana you have left (not %)

Sugar Momma··214 votes·5,368 views

I understand they want to make it similar to Health, since they're right next to each other, but for gameplay purposes it makes much more sense to have Health pinged as a % and Mana pinged as a flat value.

When you ping Health and you're at 10% then that means you're close to death, no matter who you are. If you ping Mana and you're at 10% what exactly does that mean? You could be a Ryze and still have multiple rotations till you're OOM or a Lux who maybe can use one more ability.

For example if I'm Sona and my ult is about to come off cooldown but I won't have the mana to cast it, wouldn't my allies benefit a lot more from seeing that I have "40 mana" than 6% mana or whatever?

The mana costs of abilities are constant. I know a Sona who pings "40 mana" cannot ult or heal. I don't know what a Sona with 6% mana at any given level/item build/masteries/runes can do.

i think it would be better to do it like a fraction instead of having both

for example if you have 500 mana and a 1000 mana pool it would be 500/1000 compaired to 500 (50%) i just think this version looks better and still gets the point across

Sraeg20131 votes

Well, it's just an "example" after all.

As Blitzcrank, I pings mana pool. 25% remaining. Still not enough mana for Q. "WTF if you have 25% mana left, why didn't you press Q?" - misinformed ADC

Sp33d Zer09 votes

Ping the ability when you are oom. It will say you didn't have enough for it

Sugar Momma5 votes

Yes, but if it's on CD but you still want to communicate you won't be able to use it (say if your jungler wants to gank), it's much more helpful to be able to say "I have 50 mana" than "I have 10% mana."

Amasa Delano5 votes

I always just assume that pinging the mana pool means they don't have enough to help and I shouldn't expect them to.

Nautoday4 votes

Yeah, but you can't inform them you don't have enough for Q + E

Sire Hippington2 votes

As Blitzcrank , I pings mana pool. 100 remaining. Still not enough mana for Q. "WTF if you have 100 mana left, why didn't you press Q?" - **misinformed **ADC

I hardly see how it makes a difference...

JavelinJoe15 votes

His q is 100 mana so it would work

Amasa Delano2 votes

It would work at 25% mana starting at level 4, assuming he didn't buy mana items before that.

Dreadlocks1 votes

if you ping the spell that you don't have mana for it'll tell your team "Q not enough mana"

Weasel Kensei1 votes

But not if its on cooldown...

Like long cooldown abilities mentioned here Blitz Q, or even something like Morg E, you could be waiting 12-15 seconds to ping "not enough mana" for the ability, and if ping %mana do they know what you can/cant do for the next 10 seconds of an abilities cooldown?

I think the solution is cearly both, though Id prefer % followed by flat value in brackets.

Ahri : 10% mana [83]

k wìx28 votes

I disagree - anytime anyone pings about mana, it's obvious they think they are OOM and do not wish to proceed.

Let's be honest, no ones pinging a full mana bar.

FilDaFunk20 votes

Would it not be better for the ping to actually give some information?

Mokuto Bunshi5 votes

I think a flat number is better.

TwoShotsOfVodka2 votes

I often ping my mana when i have 40% left but i know a huge teamfight is coming. It means we can maybe catch someone but i'll have some prob latter if we keep going too much, so it's not really truth that ppl only ping to say they can't fight.

Borbland15 votes

Just show both similar to that: " Mana: 6% (40) " for example

HaIlMonitor8 votes

Neither really helps unless the players on your team know how much sona's ult cost (Just using her as an example) to begin with. The % can be used when I ping I am about to gank to show "Dont come, I dont have the mana", but if you ping "I have 87 mana" That doesnt really say to me "oh btw I cant cast my ult that cost 100".

What they could do is make it so if you ping an ability it would say

  1. "Crescendo Ready!"
  2. "Crescendo not Ready!"
  3. "Crescendo not enough mana!"
Sugar Momma7 votes

I'm not suggesting changing what happens when you ping an ability. That should stay the same. I'm talking about pinging your mana bar.

What you describe is what pinging your abilities does currently, but if it's not ready AND you don't have the mana for it, it just pings "Not ready." Sometimes it's about to come off cooldown shortly, however (as your allies can see your ult cooldown), and you'd want to let your allies know it's not gonna be able to be used.

Almost all champions' ults have 100 mana. I think it would be much more beneficial to have this change as opposed to the % value it tells you now which really means nothing. If all it tells you by virtue of pinging one's mana they don't have the mana for a gank, then this change would have no effect on you because pinging a flat value would end up serving the same purpose.

overall however, 6% mana could mean many things.... Depending on if the team mates know roughly how much the costs are, it helps reduce the need of clicking on the ally champ to see how much mana they actually have.

When im against a Blitzcrank for example, i keep an eye on his mana. He needs 125 mana to pull and knock. 225 to ulti as well as pull and knock. I tell the ADC in words what he does based on his mana. If i only saw his mana% that tells me nothing at all. He could be able to do his full rotation, or he could be be unable to even pull.

What the OP is saying is actually an issue that I think should be addressed...... Even if its just add in the current HP and Mana values along with the % that is remaining of their bars.

Slythion5 votes

I'm pretty sure if you ping an ability, it does say "not enough mana" or like "cant cast"

something along those lines

BLACK REALM GOD2 votes

if you cant cast it because it's on cooldown it says the cooldown timer.

if you cant cast it because you're out of mana it says something like Q - not enough mana

if you cant do either then it says the cooldown one first.

idk what it says if you're stunned.

Rıots Bad Client7 votes

Singed specially when 1 move costs half your mana on the first 5 min of the game

Slythion7 votes

uhhh

Blitzcrank :p

Frightning5 votes

Why not both:

[Your champion] has (x) p% mana remaining.

Marshbouy4 votes

I don't see why %s are used in the first place. sure you might not know Sona's specific spell costs, but the difference in 10% of luxe's mana bar and 10% of ryze's is massive. Anyone can see that 150 mana is enough for maybe 2 spells late game and that 500 mana is enough for at least a combo or two. Real hard numbers are much better than %s.

TheEdgeOfDestiny4 votes

I already opened such topic twice. Funny thing there are people that think that % is better then flat amount.

SwainDaRokJensen3 votes

Yes please.

Elikain3 votes

Your proposition does not help with clarity. Percentile is just switched for a flat amount and this doesn't change a thing unless people know each champion's spell costs. Which is absurd.

10% HP (just as 10% mana) is meant to mean "i'm low on HP/resource". And that in turn means that you shouldn't engage a fight with an ally that's low on one or the other, or both. You're not going to do calculations based on someone else's mana pool in terms of how much of a rotation can they pull off on the remaining mana they have. It's their job to think about that and it's your job to think about yours.

Catastrop3 votes

If someone pings their mana, it's because they think they feel they don't have enough to get enough casts out and don't want to fight. No need for any changes on this, considering no one is ever going to ping mana to show they have enough to fight.

Imperial Japan3 votes

Why not just both percent and number?

Sire Hippington3 votes

Well, usually IF someone pings mana, it's because he's running out of it and thus wants to retreat rather than going for a fight, so neither the actuall mana nor the % are that important imo.

mikemcparty3 votes

That would require someone to know how much mana each spell costs. If you ping me and tell me that you have 200 mana, I don't know if that means you can get one more spell off or if you are not comfortable staying. Percent is better imo.

Sozan53 votes

I partially agree.

I think it should show it like:

Sozan5 (Champion): Mana 50% (300)

As in, both percentage and flat value. But if I had to choose, I would choose flat value - simply because I play a champion with low mana pool:

http://i.imgur.com/gk4P3CF.png?noredirect

Though, to be fair - if somebody pings their mana, I assume they are low on it. Nobody pings on their mana to show off how much they have. xD

RogueWill3 votes

How many abilities do you know the mana cost?

How much a Nautilus hook cost? How much a Fiddlesticks E? Nasus cane? Sejuani W? having a flat ammunt wont do much as there are several champiosn that have their power budget somewhere else and get abilites for free

Sohleks2 votes

This thread makes absolutely no sense.

It could just text "X's mana is low!" Even less information. The point that someone bothered to ping it gets the point across especially if it says a low % of mana. If it was a number you'd have to take account the level of the game, and sometimes the champion and his build. And it could be Anivia with 600 mana but with RoA/Archangles which would sound a lot coming from a bruiser.

Faustavian2 votes

Usually if anyone pings their mana, it means they don't have enough of it. I don't know why you'd need more clarification.

ÈvilMorty2 votes

When i pinged 5% Mana onAnivia and the team still decides to fight without me and lose then flame me for not fighting with them, good times

DarkPh0enix2 votes

Why not both? (30%- 180 mana)

Same goes for HP

Silly Neeko2 votes

Ok....... So for Clarification because it seems some people are confused as to what this post is about.

  1. If you ping an ability that is ON COOLDOWN but only has like 10 seconds left... but you DO NOT have mana for it.... It will still only ping the time remaining, which creates confusion and makes people think that its a good time to engage.
  2. Pinging the mana bar gives a mana % currently......
  1. Yes, the majority of people will ping saying they do not have enough.
  2. Yes, most people do not have the slightest idea what other champion's mana costs are.
  3. Yes there are people who do ping the mana to say they DO have the mana to go in.

Now for my opinion......

  1. If an ability says "Q - Not Enough Mana. X Mana Cost." saying the cost of the ability.... Suggestion from DarkRitual on this thread.
  2. If when pinging the mana bar it says Current mana in Flat and % Value.....
  1. It would add clarity for both those that dont want to worry about the costs of another champions abilities.
  2. It would help out those that DO know the other champions abilities, and if paired with number 1. It would potentially help people who pay attention to these things know what they actually CAN do and what they CAN NOT.
  1. For a more custom fit........ In the "In Game" options, it could be an option to see pings of HP and Mana as Flat... %..... Or have the ability to have them both on.
