Nerf Support Items, Buff Support Kits

That way we don't always have only a few supports who are really good compared to everyone else. When everyone builds the same powerful items, the champions with the strongest kits/kits that synergize best with said items will ALWAYS be at an advantage (unless they are nerfed to the ground - like Karma).

The buffs should be proportional, of course. Certain champions (like Janna, Sona, Soraka, and Taric) would need no or little buffs compared to others (like Karma, Rakan, Lulu, Tahm Kench).

supports need a rework to differentiate from each other first

they share far too many of the same strengths to be reasonable

Riot balance team just had a heart attack reading this.

how do you buff there kits without making them op/toxic in a solo lane Lulu mid

Sdars8/20/2017, 11:28:43 PM7 votes

Just because some items are op doesn't means support kits need buffs.

If you nerf all support items alike, then buff the supports that are weaker so supports become balanced, that only means if you end up removing the still op by comparison support items like ardent censer, the supports that used to be op and became balanced after the change will become weak, because they were still abusing the item, even if it had more impact.

This is something riot does a lot: they nerf champions that abuse a specific item and finally they nerf the item, but they don't buff the champions again, instead they leave them to rot for a while. In reality, there's even more implications.

By buffing their kits, you're making them less gold reliant. That would make the op item abusers stronger when winning and weaker when losing, while making the others stronger when losing and weaker when winning. But that was all considering you couldn't build non support items. When you add that into account it gets even more complicated.

By nerfing support items, you're making them more prone to building non support items, so maybe you buff the other supports with their support build in mind, then release it into live and BOOM, those supports are now OP because they're building non support items while having an overpowered kit. So now you have to dial back on the buffs a bit. But now you have supports not building the support items that were designed for them and were considered fun and healthy for the game because they're too weak, so you want to fix that, but you have to backtrack all that was done before. That's why you should always attack the root of the problem.

I realize you most likely also meant to nerf only the support items that are busted, and said the "buff kits" because you're stating that you're displeased with support items being too good in general, so they'd be brought down a bit, while champions buffed a bit. I wouldn't be quick to agree with that, there's reasons for and against, but that could be a discussion between us. However, knowing that you probably meant that, I'm typing this for those who might misunderstand that point, or for you if that's not what you meant.

love how people think that supports aren't going in solo lane cuz their kit is garbgae

LMFAO at the ignorance

They don't want supports moving back into the midlane.

Oh are people finally catching on to what I said would be a problem all the way back when riot first decided supports should get more gold and have utility scaling.

You took a role that was meant to be strong early with next to no scaling but lots of built in utility as it's core design and how it was balanced in the game and then gave it scaling and you are surprised the roll now has a rotating fotm meta around it based on those changes?

I still maintain the worst thing to ever happen to the role was it being given so much gold and losing its vision and utility focused gameplay, but then again what do I know I've only been proven right on 100% of what I have ever said about the role since I started maining support back in S2.

I'd like more support items that synergize with other classes than marksmen. An item that helps your tank or assassin or mage.

Sadly, we can't do that. If supports get kit buffs, they often worm their way into other lanes.

They need far more work than simple item nerfs/kit buffs.

while ardent is definitely too strong I kinda want more items like ardent, because it enhances my ability which makes it more fun to use the shield because you know it does something extra.

And then they go mid/top.

That's Riot arbitrarily deciding who gets to be a support and who doesn't though. Tying the power to the items allows for unique and janky things like Pantheon support, Nidalee and Kayle support, hell the only reason Brand ever became a support was because Spellthief's Edge was buffed to viability.
