Why does Riot pick on Azir when Xerath exists?

Riot talks about Azir being nerfed and unhealthy because his range is too much and lacks counterplay but Xerath is supposed to be healthy? Or is this one of those cases of "one was played in lcs and one wasn't?"

Xerath has 340 base movement speed which is among the fastest of any mage in the game so calling him immobile is not true. With boots and a luden's echo his movement speed goes up to 419. He has a stun that moves at 2300 speed and his passive allows him to legit spam you out of lane unless you're hyper mobile. If Azir tried spamming people out of lane like Xerath does at earlier levels he would oom and be forced to last hit everything in closer proximity allowing his opponent to poke him hard but nope not Xerath.

Before you present the argument of "Well Xerath takes skill to play him like that" do you really think Azir doesn't? The fact of the matter is a great Xerath player has almost no counterplay in lane unless you're playing a handful of very specific champions. His range is so great that ganking him is rarely possible as well.

Get close to Azir? R+E

Get close to Xerath? He dead.

Also Xerath has all delayed skillshots and no AoE Ap scaling ranged attacks.

So because a champion has 340 base movement speed and no ability that involves speed or dash or blink means that that champion is not immobile. Looks like I found another fact to note in my bullshit notebook.

azir has mobility, the abilty to insec an entire team, a large amount of sustained magic damage, relatively few mana problems, self peel, and zone control. Xerath has none of these.

there is dodge and wait for him to go to proc his passive, since he needs it to keep his mana up early on, also tower diving him is never a particularly risky prospective if you know there won't be a counter gank since he has no mobility, and his cc is pretty shit at close range, also there is also the age old strategy of buying a nul magic mantle, so that you can survive the poke a bit more and get through lane phase if he is overly troublesome.

It's "one is crazy strong in the LCS". Go and watch some old Azir in the LCS vods, you'll see the damage output, combined with the safety of sliding away, combined with the utility of the shuffle, combined with the sieging potential of his passive was out of hand.

The problems you describe with Xerath sounds like a lack of experience playing against it or a lack of coordination between you and your allies. His stun is 0.5 seconds in melee range, making him more vulnerable to people who can close the gap on him. Tank or fighter junglers who can jump on him from over the raptor wall, like Zac, Sej, Gragas, Jarvan, etc put him in an bad position. Assassins like Fizz or Ekko also have no issues getting on Xerath and killing him.

Yes, if you keep trying to stay back from him he'll poke you out, because that's all he can do.
