How Do You Play Twisted Fate Well?
I have such a shit kda with him. Please teach me on how to win my lane and carry on tf.
If you are going to tell me just roam, please tell me on how to evaluate the situation or which situations I should roam.

Buy roa, use movement speed quints, shove the lane with red card and q, go roam.
Are you Faker? If not then youll never get good with TF!
:(
In this meta, you'll generally want to roam bot lane whenever you get a chance (i.e. you are pushed up into their tower, and they are pushed up into your tower), whether it's with your ult or just by walking there. Using your ult to countergank generally will result in your team winning the fight.
As for late game, treat yourself like an ADC in that you have to kite, lack a lot of peel (if you need to, save your gold card for someone jumping on top of you), but can do a lot of damage given the chance. Generally speaking, hitting stuns with your gold card is going to be very important, especially late game.
And as always, farming is very important. Keep that in mind when you go to roam.
As a Twisted Fate main, I have a few tips:
ALWAYS use Movement speed quins. This is mandatory on Twisted Fate.
If you're not feeling comfortable in lane, go for rod of ages. If you're feeling comfortable, get a sheen.
Currently you want to roam bot alot since that's the lane that usually gets snowballed.
Get boots early. Twisted Fate is a roamer. He's an immobile mage that doesn't want to die often, so make sure to get alot of movement speed.
Before roaming, try to push down your lane with Red card (Hit the middle of the 3 melee minions) followed up by a Q through all of them.
Generally in lane you just want to farm. You DO NOT want to die so make sure to stay back and miss minions if necessary.
The best situation to roam in is when your jungler ganks a lane as well or when the enemy jungler is in one of the other lanes. This mostly applies to bot lane, as tanks tend to go top.
Watch out for picks such as Fizz, Morgana and Nocturne. These champions do great against Twisted Fate.
Another threat is Zed but you can deal with him by saving your W.
Should I basically not play TF until I can get ms quints? Or is this just part of a reason why I'm not doing well while there are more reasons.
There could easily be more reasons. But you'll most likely see alot of improvement once you get the MS quins. They help when dodging skillshots, which most mid laners has alot of.
Also for getting into range to gold card and getting closer for some ults.
If that wasn't obvious enough, yes.
Never assume. It makes an ass of u and me.
I realize I assumed also.
Well, better safe than sorry.
I also have another question. Is there absolutely any way to actually win lane through trading, and killing your opponent or do I have to rely on how dumb my opponent is?
You can trade with most mid laners when your E is up. But this is not the point of playing Tf. You don't focus on winning mid lane, you focus on snowballing the other lanes.
It's just part of the reason, you can still do extreamly well on TF without MS quints there not the be all and end all.
When ou roam make sure;
TF can push and freeze very effectively with red card and Q to push or red and a few autos to even out the minions for a freeze.
Know your damage, TF packs a punch but is inheritor a gold card Q and auto. Champion if he hasn't killed his target it can quickly go sour of the player is equal or higher in skill level.
TF'S Ult, don't be afraid to use it for vision or a fake gank you do not need to follow it up if you don't feel like you can, lots of players rush and get killed.
He has a very different and unique style of play you need to just play him and find out what works and what doesn't but he is a fantastic champion to play and learn.
That's the problem. I never feel like I do enough damage. When I'm playing someone like Cassiopeia, I pop off because I actually do damage. Cassiopeia is a lot like Twisted Fate, in the sense of trying to do damage to a single target instead of bringing aoe because the aoe of q isn't really that big. Is it because of a range difference or am I completely wrong?
he is similar but he is essentially a burst mage you kind of need to get in Gold card > Auto > Q > Auto and walk out, this is why move speed is regarded as the best quints for TF (getting in and out quickly) among his other stand-out quality which is split pushing so moving around the map fast is a +.
Cass on the other hand has very constant damage she can switch targets effectively and quickly without causing her too much bother, TF gets his burst on a low CD but he needs to land a combo to do his real damage, i know case basically has a combo too but once its hit its insanely consistent.
TF can take turrets very fast with red card where cass takes them slower and because of TF's built-in TP and instant wave clear (literally instant, Red + Q) its also the main reason why he is regarded as a split pusher this in turn makes him an awesome carry (again with a built-in TP).
use his Q to poke people down as it does get powerful and chunks people then use your ''true'' power so to speak to kill them, also blue card in an AP build does a ton of damage if you don't need gold card, don't use it and I'm assuming you know but during your ult or summoner teleport you can pick your cards.
Gold card, q, repeat.

I'm not going to act like I'm a good TF player (or even a TF player, I hardly play him) but what I typically see a good TF do is: Early game - don't feed. Farm safely. Keep your mana up with blue cards, clear waves with Q. Don't push it, clear reactively. Post-6 - look for a lane that's extended or lower health. Your best bet is to come from base (so there's no missing ping) and ult that lane. Prep your yellow card as the ult channels. Late game: You want Zhonya's, and you can engage fights with an ult - yellow card - Q - zhonya's. They'll blow a lot on you and you'll get a kill and not die. If your team can follow up it should be won teamfights. At lower elo, the alternative may be to just split push with a Lich Bane (might work at higher elos too).
I played twisted fate and even though I had a good kda, I felt very unimpactful in the game. My damage felt weak, after laning I couldn't get a good opportunity for teleport, and the only utility I brought was if I got a gold card.
Don't be scared of using your ult without knowing if it'll be useful or not, most likely you'll see someone squishy solo you can kill and either way it gives vision over all the enemies.
TF is probably the highest skillcap midlaner right now.
He's extremely weak in lane against the meta mages. He's actually not supposed to win lane or trade.
attempts at trading with TF are extremely risky as the range on his pick a card is really crappy compared to other midlaners, instead focus on just farming well and surviving pre-6 because the strength of TF as others have mentioned is not in his laning phase but in the post 6 global pressure. The hints are in his bonus gold passive much like gangplank.
I must preface this with I am a Bronzie :D so take what I say for a grain of salt. What I'm about to say though is just stuff that alot of higher level players have been saying, and TF mains have been saying for awhile. I come from a coaching background, and a lot of these techniques are applied elsewhere in sports...
There is so so soooo much I can say on a lot of little things. But I think the main point you really want to get across is abuse the shit out of your strengths and gaurd your weaknesses. Always try to be proactive, and learn from being punished.
Super vague, but how does this answer your question: "If you are going to tell me just roam, please tell me on how to evaluate the situation or which situations I should roam."
Considering TF's strength, just because you CAN roam, doesn't mean you need to. Lets take a traditional TF counter lane match up. You may not be able to mechanically pull this off, but if you understand your strengths, you can still pressure your enemy and spread them thin.
Not even talking about CSing well or not, try to stay even with your lane opponent in CS and exp. That is the bare minimum if you want to succeed as TF. As the elos get higher, your ability to survive the lane improves your TF because the better the division, the better the TF player, and the better/more respected TF's ult is when he goes into fog of war.
From here abuse your strength even more, what CAN TF do that your lane opponent cannot? Your lane opponent we'll say int his case is a Zed with ignite. Sure Zed can dive you, sure he can abuse you. But he can't be topside or botside in almost a blink of an eye. So why do you HAVE to killl Zed? As long as you can stay even in exp, you are doing just fine. If you can stay even in gold, you are winning lane because of your passive. IF your opponents are GOOD, your very presence should be already dampening the aggression of opposing lanes. IF this isn't happening, THEN you have the option of ulting. Just you running off towards one side of the map will cause your midlaner to spam pings to whichever lane you want them to. Abuse this.
If you can get this down, you can even play assassins well by taking the extra step of control ward in river and helping JG establish river control. IE Shove wave as "insert assassin" and disappear towards the fog of war in one river. While you won't get there as fast, you making a pre-emptive run towards river gives you much more options than your opposing laner does to respond to a lane and has a similar dampening effect on opposing laners aggression. Remember, the idea is being a complete and total ass to the enemy team but being a baby sitter for that lane. When you get lane shoving down, you can probably run down 25% of the river and back constantly after each wave, and still have ample time to meet the wave and shove it back out. This is a HUGE advantage, and unless it is punishes consistently, why not get this free advantage? Seriously.
This does not have to be a lane either. If your jungle is invading, run in that direction to allow yourself to respond...oh wait, you're TF :O. Get the point?
This is particularly useful and MUST be abused if want to pave the way to becoming a ruthless TF/assassin player at higher elos, but will setup the situations that you need to effectively roam in lower elos who do not respect the roam.
FINALLY, if lanes do not respect, start roaming on your ults cooldown. The main thing you gotta do, is Nike, just do it. You will feed. You will lose towers. You will be punished. You will be left out to dry by teammates who ask for ganks but don't know how to receive ganks. You will experience everything along the spectrum. THIS is where you will learn to evaluate good and bad roams, and this will change with every elo you climb. Some things will change, something's won't. But as long as you can play this way, any variation of defeat and win you come across, you should be able to analyze and apply in other roles/similar champs.
A lot of ppl will try to say get better at farming blah blah, that's obvious....Those are things that will come with focused practice. But TF is by far, one of the best champions out there if you want to play the role of a proactive catalyst for your team. You can do so much at any time of the game. You have options, but with these options comes more responsibility. As Zed, if you and your team are dancing off at Baron with enemy team, your best option typically is stay with the team. What lanes are pushing, how fast you get there, is so limited. With TF though, you can simply just push out midlane and ult back into the fight. You can ult to midlane and start taking the tower, and put the pressure of a decision on the enemy team to either call baron or start backing. You can take mid, then feint ulting baron but ult top lane or botlane and take another turret and allow your team to start Baron while enemy team scrambles to decide what to do. You can pull the trigger and initiate a fight by ulting in Zhonyas/Gold card+Zhonyas/Zhonyas to cancel TP channel to cause enemy team to disengage from Baron. You get the idea....
With more options, come more success, but also failures. Celebrate the successes, embrace the failures.
Everything mentioned in the above will help to solidify your role as TF in the early game. Late game is just as important however. TF IMO, is one of the biggest reasons why high elo know better than to overstay after taking objectives. A dead TF who hasn't gotten to use his ult IS the ticking time limit for enemy team to take what they can and book it. Punish every second they delay. Enemy killed 2 teammates + TF, and pushed up to take one tower? Two of their teammates back off to base or another objective(getting greedy) leaving the rest of the team to push against your surviving teammates? Punish that shit!
Take another situation...you are grouped with our team, and your 0/7 Tryndamere is making quick work of top lane turret towards enemy inhib? Is the enemy team backing or attempting to back? Chase and poke, and use your ult to avoid getting caught out. Use your ult if you deem necessary to prevent a TP? It's a gamble, but how many other champions in this game can take this gamble? To put it on the line for Trynd to win game, and bank on the team to stall out the fight long enough so that Trynd can win the game?
Until you realize and see these options, your TF is will only be limited to an occasional attempt gank + "just survive lane". Like I said, there is so much more to be said, your weaknesses can be covered by competent teammates, your strengths can be augmented, your ult can cover other peoples weaknesses etc. But to get to that point, you must first start abusing your strengths ASAP.
