Why is Jarvan classified as a tank when he's an assassin?

Love getting oneshot by Jarv man. When's he getting a rework to stop people from abusing him in the wrong roles.

He's no more of an assassin than balls to the walls AP Malph or Amumu are assassins. They can go balls-deep, but they aren't getting back out.

God forbid champs have more than one build.

He's an AD bruiser, like Vi. They have some aspects of assassins, but are better off building tanky and acting like fighters. They are neither true tanks, or true assassins.

Many bruisers tend to have knock-ups and maybe a few slows, but not as much stuns (particularly aoe, like Sejuani).

I've seen a tank/bruiser Jarv maybe once. Every other time I see Jarv everone builds him full AD with zero tank/bruiser items. In fact, I also believe he was played at LCS with a full AD build running around taking out squishies.

The reason I'm wondering is because I'm really tired of his oneshot ganks.

Bruiser Jarvan (i.e. Warrior -> Cleaver -> Tank) is his standard build.

You might see the cheesy full-AD Jarvan in lower ranks or when he gets ungodly fed in a stomp, but it isn't how he normally builds and plays.

They are building him full AD because, compared to other bruisers, he's weak. But he has nice damage potential when going full AD (like most bruisers) and a much faster engage than most of them allowing him to assassinate people. This, however, comes at a price. Once he engaged a teamfight, he's pretty much dead, as he has 0 escapes.

Also, he has no ways to bypass a ward without losing both his gap closer and almost half of his burst. Use wards and he can't gank you.

You mean bruiser. Bruisers are tanky, and unfortunately J4 does not qualify as a true tank. The champion, not the build, defines the difference between tank and bruiser. An off-tank build is probably what you mean. It... gets weird. Stick with me here.

Anyway, fun thing about AD bruisers in particular is that they can build from a pretty decent range from tanky to glass cannon, depending on your need. They won't be as safe as Zed if you do so, but they're fully capable of it.

Anyway, assassin AD bruiser off-builds are a thing, since the trinity three of AD bruisers (Vi, J4, Lee Sin) have such huge engage potential. Although I doubt you've been oneshot unless he's horribly fed, because his scalings aren't that great. If he can 100-0 you in a full combo, then he built glass cannon and was fed. I don't know what you're expecting here.

Don't get me started on my AP j4. Most dmg in game, 18/11/18 without jg ganks while getting super heavily ganked. (I picked him to spite my Jgler who banned my yorick.... he didn't gank, Yi did. Probably more than i have ever seen before lol.)
