Soraka Changes

Okay Soraka players I know you love to instantly downvote things like this without even reading the ideas and considering other player's perspectives when it comes to gameplay, but you really need to be open minded and realistic.

Original intentions from Riot was make Soraka, a dedicated healer, interact with her opponents and create risky gameplay and try to avoid tank Soraka and try to create better gameplay against Soraka. Ironically the changes did a bunch of poor things because the heal has a health cost it makes Soraka more likely to build tank to prevent being bursted out and play far back because she will be low health from healing allies, and because it is % health cost only it makes her early game ridiculously strong while still having a super strong late game.

Some points I want to have with Soraka for my ideas: ~ Remove Soraka from being a frustrating champion to play against ~ Allow Soraka to be a fun and rewarding champion to play as ~ Allow Soraka to be the dedicated spam healer, but in a healthier way than what she is now ~ Grant Soraka reasons to why she should interact with her opponent ~ Forcefully remove tank Soraka (if we are going to have a dedicated healer then she needs to at least be squishy for counter play)

Remember, and I cannot emphasize this more, I am not unfair to players so if you have feedback then let me hear it I am not a mind reader so I do not know any qualms you may have with my ideas. I am not perfect here and my ideas won't be spot on right away, but you have to give someone a chance and have an open mind (this is pretty hard for this community in general, but at least try). Whenever I do idea posts like this I try to go for fun to play as, not frustrating to play against / has good counter play to it, and viable in a unique sense (dedicated healer is pretty unique).

Basic Attack Range: 550 units Movement: 340 units per second

Super Nova (Passive): Soraka cannot gain any bonus armor or bonus magic resistance, instead 100% of any bonus armor and bonus magic resistance she would have gotten is converted into Ability Power.

Additionally, Soraka's heals are increased by 50% to champions below 40% health.

Starcall (Q) Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4 seconds; Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana; Range: 1000 units / 150 units After a 0.25 second delay, Soraka calls down a flurry of 10 stars over 1 second following the mouse cursor around dealing 10/14/18/22/26(+6%AP) magic damage and slowing by 5% for 2 seconds, this slow stacks additionally to the same enemy struck by multiple stars.

Astral Blessing (W): Cooldown: None; Cost: The greater of 100 Mana or 10% max Mana; Range: 550 units Passive: Soraka's basic attacks against enemy champions restore 100 Mana over 10/8/6/4/2 seconds.

Active: Soraka heals an ally champion other than herself for 60/80/100/120/140(+60%AP) health and grant them bonus armor and magic resistance for 1.5 seconds equal to 20/25/30/35/40% of any bonus armor and bonus magic resistance Soraka would have gotten for herself.

Equinox (E): Cooldown: 26/22/18/14/10 seconds; Cost: 60/70/80/90/100 Mana; Range: 850 units Soraka creates a zone for 1.5 seconds silencing enemies within and dealing 70/105/140/175/210(+50%AP) magic damage.

After 1.5 seconds, the zone detonates to deal another 70/105/140/175/210(+50%AP) magic damage and rooting enemies in place for 1.5 seconds.

Wish (R): Cooldown: 200/190/180 seconds; Cost: 100 Mana; Range: Global Passive: Whenever a star from Starcall hits an enemy champion Wish's cooldown is reduced by 1 second.

Active: Soraka heals all friendly champions, including herself and untargetable champions, for 150/250/350(+70%AP) health.

Soraka was already updated. She seems so lack as a Support now then what she was, but she seems good as a mid laner now. :/

Well Soraka is a utility mage, so she can be multiple roles and always has been. I want good counter play out of Soraka and have her fair to play against, most people that read this do not realize I have played Soraka since early season 1 which includes the time of leveling from 1-30 and have played many games on her and over her many reworks. In short, I am using games played as, played against, and mistake of the past to try to have a concept for Soraka that will be healthy for the game; I gave Starcall more power to give more aggressive rewards for Soraka and try to give it an unique and fun effect to use, kind of a hybrid of the old Starcall spam and a Starcall nuke; my idea works where the enemy can see your mouse cursor for 1.25 seconds (unique mouse cursor of course that would look like a glowing orb or something) and the stars fall from it for 1 second so you have to both aim to hit and allow room for the enemy to dodge [hence skillshot].

Soraka just feels dumb to play as and a million times worse to play against when she is nothing but a heal bot with no reason to be aggressive and just staying in the fog of war where she cannot be seen, and she is full tank so you cannot even kill her. Her kit actually punishes you right now for being aggressive which that right there comes down to poor game design and the complete opposite of what Riot wanted to accomplish because they wanted to avoid the passive tank healer and reduce frustrations to play against.

I'm happy with her as a midlaner. They just need to fix her heal to be something a midlaner would want.

This change would be absolutely atrocious... And yes, I main Soraka. I don't think this change would right anything.

Soraka has counterplay. Burst champions can take down her and her allies before she can do a whole lot. If she build tank you can punish her whilst she's raking up the health, tank Soraka isn't effective before she gets warmog's heart and that requires at least one health item + sightstone on top of the warmogs to get 3000 health. Until she gets there, you can take advantage of the extra health cost she gets.

K bro, Soraka has counter play :^)

I have played Soraka since level from 1-30 and every iteration of her, I have played since early season 1, I have experienced every form of Soraka as and against. I can pinpoint where her current gameplay flaws are, because she has no rewards right now for being aggressive so everyone plays in the fog of war, this is a problem.

I gave Starcall a more fun ability to use and more power with it, this should help with her aggressive rewards along with increased mana restoration for basic attacking enemy champions. Her Heal is mana gated to reduce her healing in the early game for she does not give off an infinite amount of heals, especially with being out of sight and out of mind, and then the greater of flat or % mana is so the mana cost is always relevant as the game progresses and for Soraka cannot simply ignore the cost with mana stacking.

So yea, my changes are to fix game health issues with Soraka; and even though she will be a dedicated healer I still want her to be more than just about her heals. Also your logic of Soraka having counterplay is nice on paper, but its not true at all, and its the same reason to why pro teams are not playing Soraka and the team that is first for NA is playing Soraka. So people like you think Soraka is this weak and pathetic champion when in reality she is insanely broken and literal freelo, she needs work.

SeekerofSilence2 votes

She's a passive healer, she's not supposed to be aggressive. There's Sona if you want to go with a more aggressive healing champion but by gods leave Soraka how she is.

Some of your statements make no sense, no pro teams play her so that's why a team in Na that does play her is first..? What? There's a reason why Soraka isn't played in higher elo, people know how to work around her. The best team in Na isn't best because they're the only ones who play Soraka...

I'm not saying she's weak. I adore Soraka and I've always said she was hella strong in the right hands, but people just don't know how to punish in low elo which is why she's seeing success there as a "freelo" champion. And yes, I count platinum (divisions III to V) as lower elo, I've beaten them and I'm the worst scrub you can come across.

You playing for longer than me isn't relevant at all. What forms Soraka has had before doesn't matter. We're talking about her current state, and quite honestly I think she's alright as she is. Passive healer, and now that her q has an over-time heal it'll be easier to punish her/her time whilst she remains health.

~ Remove Soraka from being a frustrating champion to play against

Annie Teemo Renekton Riven Fiora Gangplank as a few...

in all seriousness.... no, the passive is god awful. she is one of the squishiest champs by default, having it so she has 0 capability to survive any attack late game due to her passive is just flat out stupid.... 1 adc crit = death....

The W change is very weird and unless she is gunna have mana scalings idk how or why you would tag mana regen 100 at that to an AA.....

The r thing is actually really intuitive however. praises good hits, while making her support global a chance to come off for needed points.

Stacona1 votes

Damage does not work like that, also she can build health still and we can always adjust her base stats in the future if she feels too squishy. But the point is that if there is a champion that can make the high damage Kog'Maw into a super tank then to off set and balance this the healer has to be squishy, its for balanced game health and rewards Soraka for good positioning while punishes her hard for playing like a dumbass.

The passive is to encourage Soraka to be in AA range to try to get mana back to heal her allies, or mana back for more starcalls, it is to reward soraka for not playing in the fog of war and actually interactiing with her opponents.

What? Wish has always been a global 'point and click' heal; I tried to make a skill element by rewarding a lower cooldown if you are constantly aggressive with Starcalls and landing them on the enemy, up to 10 seconds can be shaved off if you hit them all on enemy champions from a single starcall shower.

Annie would need a rework: ~ Remove permanent stun zoning, stun passive can stay and would stay but one with better counterplay and gameplay to it ~ Remove Annie's Flash reliancy, this includes she is a lot less oppressive when Flash is up too, so a win-win scenario ~ I think turning Annie into a puppeteer mage with Tibbers would be a cool and unique concept where Tibbers can use Annie's abilities turning a short range mage into a long range mage and rewarding Annie for keeping Tibbers alive; changes would be made including a 4 point "ultimate" for Tibbers is at level 1 with initial nuke being removed, Tibbers would just spawn into play when cast ~ FIRE!

Teemo is minour changes: ~ Better inform the community that Teemo is indeed a marksman; with a good strength of roaming the map and placing shrooms for vision and slow ~ Teemo shrooms would have their direct damage removed and give a debuff poison that makes Teemo's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage on-hit and as a poison (an added on value on top of Toxic Shot's damage) ~ Shrooms will provide slightly more vision and a stronger slow with their direct damage being removed; direct damage removal is because people do not like being chunked out from invisible traps ~ Would like to have his E like Jinx's Q - Switcheroo - where you can choose between damage of Toxic Darts or different darts of utility of possible just bonus range. Since you would be losing out on damage it is just a decision making thing of what you want.

Renekton I think is one of the most balanced champions in the game:

Riven needs big changes: ~ High cooldowns to off set the fact that she is resourceless; I mean A LOT higher. Abilities can gain more potency if needed, but she needs a lot higher cooldowns to balance her out and make her better to play against.

Fiora and Gangplank: ~ They are in pretty good spots, just slightly over tuned at the moment, basically gameplay balance tuning is the only thing needed and nothing majour to put them in a better equal state to other champions

I don't think you understand the point of being resourceless

Stacona1 votes

To off set a champion not using a resource they need high cooldowns to be balanced, low cooldown champions are gated by Mana or Energy

ModWulf Helhammer1 votes

No, that's exactly the opposite.

Mana champions have high power abilities, so they need to have a way to limit their power in the early game.

Energy champion have abilities that are made to be spamable, but they need a way to limit them from spaming them, as thye usually have a god amount of power.

Resourceless champion are made to spam abilities (there's only 3: Garen, Riven, and Katarina). Their abilities don't have much power individually, their power is in whole kit combos. Because limiting a champion to do only able to do anything on long cooldowns, they have low cooldown abilities.

i am praising your ult change... not patronizing it...

Linna Excel2 votes

Downvoted because of passive. Riot tried a passive on her where she got less armor and mr... players found it confusing and hated it.

Stacona1 votes

Nah, if we did this type of thing it would make Soraka healthier for the game and with more potent abilities the player will like it a lot more because they are making a bigger impact on the game with more satisfying abilities; but its mostly required for a dedicated healer to be healthy for the game.

Your Q idea and your W idea conflict heavily with each other. If the W has no cooldown, it's going to take up a large portion of her available actions to cast it. Having the low cooldown Q that ties up her mouse movements for over a second of time isn't going to be fun because it actively prevents casting the W. If I have two mechanical actions competing with each other that I can not physically fulfill at the same time, that's going to be frustrating. Either mechanic can theoretically work on its own, but they do not belong together on the same kit.

Stacona1 votes

Remove the cooldown because the cooldown is irrelevant now and because it is mana gated you have to choose when and when not to use it because 2-4 casts in the early to mid game makes you oom so you need mana regen from items and basic attacking enemy champions to keep healing.

Soraka is not meant to be a mechanically intensive champion, nor do I want her to be, I tried to make her skill dependent in a different light with management of her resource of Mana and positioning. You are going to only be focused on one set of actions at a given time and be easy to play because you only need to worry about one thing at a time and her difficulty will relying on decision making and management.

Sightless662 votes

You are going to only be focused on one set of actions at a given time and be easy to play because you only need to worry about one thing at a time

But that's not true. In a teamfight, I'm going to want to use Q as often as I can, but if I do I can't make use of my W because the Q ties up mouse input, but having a no CD W also ties up mouse input. These actions overlap, and there is nothing that would make me not want to use both of them at any given time. Basically, by using the Q, I say that I can't cast W for X period of time unless I want to waste the Q, and that's frustrating because the mechanics aren't related to each other.

her difficulty will relying on decision making and management.

If that's the goal, then you need to reevaluate either the Q or the W. Mechanically, this conflict is a major thing to play around.

And this is your 3rd time posting this. Stop reposting whenever people have already said they don't like it and it's a bad idea -- it's not going to do anything

KotetsuTatsumaki2 votes

Yeah I'm not big on the Soraka that can get one shot because she can't get any defense.

Also this passive would if anything encourage tank items on her. Armor and MR scale instead to 100% ap?

Guardians angel: 60 armor/60 mr=120AP plus the passive. Zz'Rot Portal: 55 armor/55 mr =110AP plus the active Spirit Visage: 70mr = 70AP plus passive and other base stats (cdr health regen). Thornmail: 100armor = 100AP plus passive Frozen Heart: 90 armor = 90AP plus base stats and passive (cdr and mana) Zhonya's Hourglass: 45 armor plus 100AP = 145AP plus active

Her build would just get even more silly. Throw a warmogs in there somewhere, your bound to get the 3000 health requirement, and can potentially heal yourself for days, without the punishment of weaker healing on your allies.

You either make her more frustrating or impossible to play with this rework idea.
