League of Sustain: The true reason why assasins are not viable

Shields: New champs, buffed champs and strong picks for some time Diana: Benefitted a lot from introduction of Runeglaive Ekko Gains a huge shield with his W which makes him strong jungler Janna: God tier support since she came out. Shield and perma disengage mitigates a lot of damage Karma: Got reworked and is actually hidden OP. Just wait till Worlds. Lux: Got buffed. The changes to her shield made it more effective. 55% winrate above Plat. Lulu: Simply too strong as a solo laner especially in Pro scene. Her ult counters every attempt to assasinate a squishy. Nautilus: Since he got rediscovered as a Sup he sees lots of play. He has decent base damage and becomes a huge meatshield with tons of cc. Can also play top and jungle. Shen: Got recently buffed and his ult counters every attempt to dual or win a 1 vs 1. Riven: Huge scaling on her shield with low cd. Riven has been a strong pick since she was released. TahmKench: New champ where grey HP mechanic was first introduced and its pretty broken. People now start playing him in jungle and he becomes a real monster.

Heals: Soraka: Most obnoxious support and too strong atm. Lategame she can outheal every incoming damage and you need to focus her which is a lose-lose situation. Alistar: Probably the best support in the game atm. Combines hard cc for peel and engage with tankiness and
Ekko: Unnecessary heal on his ult. Fiora: Got reworked and is simply broken. Got an AoE heal on her ult for no reason. Gangplank: Got reworked into god tier top and he can heal himself quit a lot and immune to 1 cc. Janna: AoE heal on her ult which will get nerfed but really? Who builds AP Janna anyway? Nidalee: Strong jungler with heal+poke combination to force people out of lane.

Sustain champs RekSai: His rage sustains him too much in jungle so he can gank+farm without tradeoffs. Got nerfed. Gragas: His damage got nerfed but his tankiness and sustain is still insane. Vladimir: Simply beyond toxic design. Warwick: Unkillable lategame with Sated devourer. Trundle: Juggernaut items also benefit him a lot Garen: Stronger after the rework. His sustain is insane if he can use his passive.

item 3930+item 3153= Perma sustain jungler with tons of damage item 3072 item 3153 item 3508= Adc's can combine 2 of these to get a lot of sustain and that is what we are seeing more and more. item 3065: Got recently buffed to benefit more from team heals.

Conclusion What do we see? A tendancy to release champs with heals, shields and sustain. Because of buffs to champs, items, introduction of new champs and strong reworks all containing heal and shields every role is now being dominated by sustain. Since the removal of Sword of the Ocult the only counter to sustain is either true damage (mechanic that is also being used too much lately) or item 3165 and Meddler stated a couple of days ago that they believe the Grievous Wounds mechanic is currently too strong and would likely be changed to 30% instead of 40%!! I seriously I CAN'T believe that since sustain is currently by far the strongest strategy in the game and is crowding out every other way of playing other than true damage or sustain champs.

I mean, cc and burst counter sustain pretty hard. Assassins are viable.

Assassins are meta dependent.

If there's meta built around them they will dominate - if there's a meta of tanks, devourer and disengage assassins will fall out of favor.

I don't see anything wrong there.

Why should you play Zed when you know you are gonna get annihilated lategame by Azir Darius Diana Ekko Fiora Fizz Garen Gangplank Irelia Janna Nautilus Riven Soraka Viktor Vladimir Vayne ETC ETC...
