How to make malzahar a mid laner again
I was a Malzahar main after the rework (main, not one trick), but I stopped playing him all together after his voidlings got gutted. I maintained a win rate of 70% over 120 games in high diamond, so I think I know what I'm talking about when I talk about Malzahar. Before I get into an explanation, I'll just say what I think the changes should be to make him viable but not broken. Step 1: Revert all nerfs to his voidlings. This means making them a static cooldown isntead of something you have to stack up. Giving them back attack speed with three void-lings, but taking away the ap damage buff they were given for compensation. Giving them back movespeed when chasing someone with malefic visions, and giving them back minion threshold last hitting and minion multiplying. Literally make them the exact same before Riot gave voidlings the nerfs that ruined Malzahar as a mid laner. And what nerf do I offer instead you may ask? Make his ultimate a stun so that it can be cleansed. Anyone who was any good at Malzahar didn't need to rely on ulting someone to kill them. A good malzahar won games with proper voidling management (not as easy as you'd think). There are a lot of things you can do with voidlings that I won't go into because it'd just turn into an essay about voidling tricks. The point is that Malzahar's skill, complexity, and viability was all dependent on the state of his voidlings. Reviving his voidlings will revive these qualities in Malzahar. The only thing that I think was really toxic about Malzahar was that QSS isn't supposed to be built by mid laners, but it's the only counter play available to mid laners to ensure they don't get bodied by a Malzahar that flashes them on off cooldown. Making his ultimate cleansable will make it significantly easier to play against him, but it won't ruin him. Malzahar will still be good enough to see play in competitive and high elo. I could write a whole essay on Malzahar, but for simplicity's sake I'll stop the post here.
