Poll: Which season did you enjoyed the most?

iTaLenTZ··22 votes·2,578 views

The question is simple: Which Season did you enjoyed the most? I added Season 5 twice because I think the Juggernaut rework marked the beginning of a new era in which we would get new class updates over time and they really impact the game. League would never be the same again.

I like how you split season 5 between pre and post juggernaut. It's the point a lot of people knew the game went down hill right there.

Exactly. Some people may find it arbitrary but it is the crucial point Riot took a new approach to the game and things really started to change. And not for the good IMO.

They just keep removing options to do anything other than kill someone instantly.

Just like how you used to be able to buy a zzrot to help hold lane... now you don't buy it because its a waste of gold and time.

Mhm looking at my Elo curve it's obvious, I guess.

I loved Mid-Season 5 - so much diversity such great Teamfights and altering playstyle from early into late. And well.. if I enjoy something I'm good with it. Easy trip to Dia 3 - what a fun time! (Maybe I could have climbed even more... sadly the changes including Juggernauts took away alot of the diversity and creative playstyles I loved so much back than and the game never recovered from there, I'm still playing... but my compeditive desire is next to gone.

Honorable mention to Season 2. But I was so inexperienced and most of my memories collide with nostalgic feelings, that's why I cant give a reliable judgment on it.

How many Riot white knights are going to vote season 7 only because it's the most current period and the most recent thing Riot has "blessed us with?"

I should also add what my vote was since others are as well: The Season 5 pre-juggernaut era (after cinder, gromp, and a few problem tanks were nerfed) was a stable and healthy environment where every class had a clear niche and nearly every champion was not only viable, but had the potential to do well.

Edit: To reinforce that first assumption, already 38 votes and not a single one for Season 6. Hmmm... http://emojipedia-us.s3.amazonaws.com/cache/ac/c6/acc6d0cc2fa3030894e8979ca5c07a44.png

Anybody who doesn't pick Season 2 didn't play back then

This poll has a huge selection bias

As someone who's played since season 0 here's how I'd rank em

Season 2 > Season 5 > Season 4 > Season 3 > Season 7 > Season 6

Not really gonna count season 1 because there was no established meta back then and the game was far too different

Unless you are a "support" main who would not be able to function with no gold income and having to use Gp5 items just to buy wards.

Can't say everythign was better but many thigns were.

The one thing I wouldn't mind season 2 having is something other then boots as the starting item.

LankPants2 votes

I played tons of support in S2, support in S2 was more fun than support now.

There's a certain satisfaction to be gained from absolute vision control which is something that's became impossible since then.

Also you didn't have to deal with Zyra and Malzhar, which is a giant fucking plus. Any season post 3 and you have to start dealing with all the cancer mage supports coming in from mid and the ever increasing irrelevance of traditional supports.

I still actually enjoy supporting, the problem is that I just can't play the champs I want to play because they've been removed from relevance by stronger mages.

Irelia Bot1 votes

I was more talking about thins like "support" lux and Annie.

LankPants3 votes

"supports" degrade the role and make it less fun overall. It was more fun when it was Sona/Janna/Soraka every game.

Earl Eulrich1 votes

i had been a support main in S2 and it had been far better than nowadays...

  • vision had been an actual thing and you had huge influence on the outcome of the game as a support just by outwarding the opponent support
  • gold hadn´t been as bad as people make it up to be, especially if you laned well got an early kill and an early gp5
  • you had actual itemization choices that mattered
  • good lord i can´t tell you how much i miss mana manipulator

...in s2 a support had actual impact and an agenda, now he just feels like a weaker being that carries a sightstone and retribution that matters more than his goddamn kit.

LankPants2 votes

It is worth noting however that just polling people who played in Season X or earlier also has major selection bias problems.

Maybe a better question to ask would be "if you could play in any season which would it be". That question allows newer players to answer with earlier seasons if they believe the game actually did look better at that point. There's still a fair selection bias, but at least it's reduced somewhat.

Titanium701 votes

Which would make people with no idea on the actual season vote for it.

Now that's better?

No if you poll such things out - you will never get a perfect result: The palyerbase is wastly different now. Anything older than 3 years is near impossible to judge on because of the huge changes this game has gone through and the washed up memories. Only a small portion of all Boards users vote here anyway. Only the Core-Players are on this boards anyway! #

You can NEVER get a reliable vote. Because the majority is not here to vote for. TBH the result we have now doesnt surprise me at all. In S5 we had long games that could swing from win to loose easily. Someone who loves the game will love such Fights.

But the majority of casuals seems to prefer short games with clear winners and loosers.

All you can get is an approximation on wants and needs of the most dedicated League Players. Nothing more.. BUT also nothing less.

season 5 pre juggernaut update for me

I started in late season 3, barely remember season 4, burning tides was right before the juggernaut rework and burning tides was my favorite time to play this game. Season 6 the game went to shit and while it's slowly getting better with season 7 at the current pace the game wont be very fun again until season 11-15, depending on how many dumb balance choices Riot makes.

Ahristocats7 votes

This doesn't work

you can't make a poll and ask to people which season they enjoyed the most, because you won't have everyone starting at season 1 So the result will be biased

for example if someone only played season 6 and season 7 he's stuck between 2 choises without the chance to see if something was better

just my 2cents

i voted season 2 if i should class seasons it's:

season2>season3>season 1 or 6 or 7 didn't play season 4 and 5

Season 5.

The period between the outlying Cinderhulk junglers being nerfed and the Juggernaut reworks being released.

Well, at least we know 30.5% of the League (boards) population is clinically retarded.

######Thinking seasons 6/7 are the best, smh...

LankPants5 votes

Alternatively they just started late. If you've only played in S6 and S7 saying S6 is the best is acceptable. I think anyone who's saying S7 is the best season either hasn't been playing long enough to answer this correctly or is a monkey though.

MXXXXXL2 votes

I started playing early to mid season 5, i can't remember enough of it to give enough of an opinion compared to S6 and S7.

Apocyliptic5 votes

Splitting Season 5 into two subsets makes this a flawed poll... unless you were to do the same for the other seasons and even then it's a completely arbitrary design. For example, I no longer remember when Xin Zhao released, but everyone knows he was terrifying for quite awhile, meaning you could split the season he was created into pre-Xin Zhao and post Xin Zhao and every other season has something of this sort as well.

Anyway, I chose season 5. The reason for this being it was incredibly diverse, hosted many different metas (cinderhaulk, devourer, juggernaut update) and always had this feeling of being "fresh." It had one of the most diverse rosters, at least when it came to Solo Que, and pretty much anything could be played, to a certain degree. Sure, when Darius was first reworked he was bullshit, devourer got really annoying, and Cinderhulk meta was out of whack, but it was FUN and pretty much anything could go. The jungle was the most balanced it's ever probably been minus the devourer meta.

Considering the fact that I mained Udyr for the majority of season 5 along with Rengar, this is also a big reason as to why. After patch 6.2, Rengar was neutered, and after Ruinglave Udyr was neutered and I never liked the AP playstyle anyway. Mordekaiser had yet to be reworked into the buggy mess he currently is, at least for the beginning of it. It was also the first season I played competitively (before I was ranking up my account).

Thus far, I'm not really impressed with season 7, but at least I can see Riot putting in effort to fix the complete mess that season 6 was. I hated Dynamic Que... I was a pure solo player for all of season 6, I hit diamond two or three times, but I still hated the concept of it.

Extrasolar4 votes

For me, it was season 3. I technically signed up during season 2, but didn't really play that often. Season 3 felt like the high point not only for hype/excitement surrounding the game itself as far as eSports went, but also one of the most balanced seasons imo.

Every game felt like a war, in which either team could conceivably win at any point. The game was slower-paced. It wasn't so much "one team roflstomps the other and wins at 25 minutes" that has grown increasingly common (though Riot has taken steps to lower the severity of it, but it's not back to the way it was).

yes it had its bullshit too like cinderhulk giving both the sunfire aura and extra %hp scaling on top making it deal like 2,5-3 sunfires worth of damage which was a bit oppressive devourer was even more bullshit imo

but for the rest it was fun anything could be played the game felt fresh and fun all season long even the juggernaut update was fun for a bit wrecking face with garen and darius lol although they shouldve fixed that faster

after the juggernaut update it went all down the toilet

i hardly play as much anymore, and haven't touched ranked with a 30 foot pole ever since the juggernaut update

Nameless Voice2 votes

I notice that almost no one has voted for season 1.

Keevalroy4 votes

You have to figure too, that many people who played back then, probably don't play anymore. The population itself wasn't that big to begin with.

Nameless Voice2 votes

Yes, I was wondering if it's because most of the people who played back then don't anymore.

WoonStruck4 votes

Many of us on the boards actually played back then.

Season 2 was just superior.

Redbuff got nerfed, slows on ranged got nerfed, there was a wider selection of viable melees in any given circumstance, jungle didn't have hypercarries afk farming and auto-winning games at 20 minutes.

There was a lot that was better about season 2 than season 1. Season 1 was riddled with non-interactive balance issues.

The MASSIVE discrepancy between people voting for season 2 instead of season 1 can't reasonably be explained by lack of people that have experienced it. A cut-off like that usually means something is causing people not to vote for it.

In this case, its because season 2 was season 1, just more balanced.

LankPants2 votes

Season 1/2/3 are going to be underrepresented just by virtue of the fact that most players who play now didn't play at these times.

Regardless I think if you could release a early season mode for LoL where you could play through an emulated version of a S1, S2 or S3 patch a lot of newer players would agree that the game was better at that point.

LankPants2 votes

As someone who's played a lot of league since the start of Season 2 and has played in every season since then I can actually order where I think these seasons fell.

For me it's S2>S5>S4>S3>S6>S7(so far). I think the quintessentially average season was S4, it's probably the least memorable season overall but I don't think that's a terrible thing. It had none of the absurd BS of the seasons bellow it even if it didn't have the advantages of 2/5.

Keevalroy2 votes

but Season 2 had Malady

That was always my first item on Teemo.

Teemo Malady > Nashor's Tooth > Berserker's > Wit's End > Frozen Mallet > Bloodrazor

That's the champ and build I used from level 4-23(ish) and looking back...it looks so stupid but I really want to go back and do it all over again at the same time.

Jeanne fan club1 votes

I miss when being 10-1 on ahri actually meant something, now any tank no matter how fed, or any leathality builder no matter how fed can carry 5x harder.

Or it might just be the fact that the teams I get are more content towerdiving a bard and giving him a triple kill instead of actually winning the game.

Awoof4 votes

If you actually think "any" tank can do that, you've been on the boards too much. Or we have different definitions of carrying.
