we’ll look into potentially changing to 10 bans in draft games.

Don't count on it just yet.

I will finally never have to play a single game against Yasuo ever again.

Good times.

Amen brother, he seems to show up in 90% of my games, I am utterly fed up with seeing this champ.

On my team he feeds, on the enemy team he carries. For this reason I'd like to permaban Yasuo, Vayne, and Shaco from all of my games because either way they'll cause me to lose lmao

Just no!

That will screw over players like me. When I play rank I tend to 1 trick. There are only like 3 champions at any one point that I'm confident in to win games. 10 bans is gonna make it possible for even rare picks to get banned often. 10 bans....I could think of no worse change.

Currently I'm 1 tricking Kayle. She's not that popular, not picked or banned often. Perfect for 1 tricking. However, she is really fuckin strong. The only reason she isn't banned at all is because of the popular picks. What champs do you think people will start banning after they ban Yas, Ekko, Zed, Fizz, Leblanc, Jax and still have bans left over ? They will start banning rare but powerful picks like Kayle and Yorick. 10 bans is way too much.

No they won't. And Yorick, really? There are more than 10 champions on the ban list. Irelia, [new champ], Soraka, Hecarim, Vlad add to yours just to name a few.

I've seen quite a few Kayle bans, not enough to make much difference to me but there were some. A lot of people feel about Kayle the same way they feel about Tryndamere.

OxyPoro2 votes

And how often do you see Tryndamere banned?

FioraWillCarry1 votes

Enough to bet my ass that if we have 10 bans, Tryndamere is gonna have a very high ban rate. He just rubs a lot of people the wrong way the way he can turn a fight with his ult. I've seen the mere sight of him being locked in on the enemy team cause instant dodges. The only reason he doesn't have a super high ban rate right now is because Zed, Fizz, Yasuo and Ekko are super popular and people hate them just as much. Tryndamere is a relatively rare pick so it seems a waste of a precious ban. With 10 bans, there's enough to cover all the super popular picks with room left to ban the rare OP picks.

OxyPoro2 votes

Thats odd, in my five years playing this game from bronze to plat and over the course of nearly 2k ranked games, I have seen him banned three times at most. But then again, maybe troll banning super easely counterpicked/counterplayed champs is a thing in NA? I doubt it and I dont believe you.

Otps are fine since you see different people each game, doesn't matter if 99 people don't touch a champion and one guy only plays said champion compared to everyone having a 1/100 chance of picking him.

But yes, just don't otp op shit and problem is solved.

LambGotTheCakes8 votes

"and otp is a boring concept anyways if people are forced to have variety the game will be better" So if someone has more fun with one champion than the others, they should be forced to play something less fun, in a game they play to have fun, just because you think the "concept" of otp is boring? Wut

Popppyseed7 votes

If you only have fun playing one champion thats fine but you should come into tanked ready to play various champions because that one can get banned/picked. If you cant do that normals are for you

Holy cow, you weren't exaggerating. Sorry bud, but you gotta move past Kayle and Azir XD Kayle will probably still be a fairly rare ban even with 10.

I spam only play one or two champions at any point in time. It was Akali first, then Aatrox, Reksai, Kindred, Azir and finally Kayle. I played Akali, Azir and Kayle the most by far. I'm not into playing 100 champs all over the place. It takes time to learn each champion's matchups, power spikes with different builds, what kinds of builds work best in what situations, what builds don't work at all, the benefits of different skill maxing orders. That's too much shit to be playing more than a couple at a time.

Well... just don't do that, I guess? It's good to learn to adapt and counterpick, and I figured that it would be more fun to not do the same thing over and over and over again. It's really not that hard to learn 5-10 champions that you enjoy playing.

I'm not bullshitting myself. I'm only Silver. What the hell a noob like me would know about counter picking. That's some high elo Plat+ shit right there. If I ever get to Plat or Diamond one day, then I would probably be ready to learn all about that but I'm still learning. I don't need to get into that advanced meta stuff yet.

You see, I still have to learn how to roam properly, how to trade, when to freeze, slow push, split push. I'm still learning the basics. If I have to learn these things I need to focus on it as much as possible. One tricking helps me do that. I don't have to think about how to play my 1 trick. I could focus on other things. If I used to play a billion champions like everybody else, I'd still be stuck in Bronze. What got me out was knowing Kayle so well that I could carry a fuck tonne of games under a variety of circumstances. I could think about the macro game because I don't have to spend too much time guess what my champ can and cannot do.

I'll give you and example by comparing. Currently, I'm spamming Kayle. Another champion I spammed before was Aatrox. I have about 70K or so worth of games on Aatrox. I played him a lot, tried a number of builds and such so I have a fair idea of how he works. Kayle, I've played far more that any other champion except Azir. Got 300+ K worth of games on her. That's a whole lot more games by a huge margin. The sheer experience I have on Kayle in comparison to Aatrox makes a huge fuckin difference.

Now let me give you an example of how this applies. Lets say I'm in a game playing Kayle, and there's a Garen top lane getting fed. Lets say I run into him in the jungle on my way to push top. What do I do ? Fight ? Run ? If I see he has item 3065item 3111 item 3071, while I have item 3115item 3006 item 3116, I don't have to think about what will happen. I know what will happen. I can kite him out with the slow from Rylais but I will take forever to kill him and by the time I get him to half hp, one of his allies is gonna be there jumping on me. So I know that I shouldn't fight. I don't have to think about that. Due to the sheer number of games where I ended up in that scenario, I know from experience what will happen. It saves me from feeding in that circumstance. Now lets say I had item 3115 item 3006 item 3124. I know that if I have my ult and I can keep him off me for a few seconds with my Q, I can kill him fairly quickly and my ult gives me precious few more seconds to finish him if he gets close to me. From experience in this circumstance, I know that despite being far less tanky and not having a permaslow to kite as effectively, I am able to kill him.

Now if I'm playing Aatrox with item 3047 item 1416 item 3153 vs a Garen with item 3068 item 3071 item 3047. I have no fuckin clue what would happen. I could lose, I could win. I don't know. Despite a good bit of experience on Aatrox, I haven't played him nearly enough times to encounter this specific scenario multiple times. If I had played him a lot more, I would find myself in this position a number of times and I would try different things and I would eventually remember what works so when I see it in a game I know EXACTLY what I need to do. This knowledge is what eventually got me out of Bronze. I could stomp Bronze players senseless because I knew exactly what I could and could not do with my champion, an advantage they didn't have. They would have to guess and I didn't. As a result, I get fed easily.

Yesterday, I was playing on a smurf account in B5 with my friend. I was Mid Kayle vs a Yasuo. He started bullying me early. Based on the runes I used on that account, I knew he would have the advantage early on so I backed off, I played as passive as I could. Eventually I bought Stinger and when I went back into lane, he tried that same aggressive shit and died. I knew from playing Kayle vs Yasuo dozens of times that a Stinger gives me a huge advantage over Yasuo. I didn't have to guess. He was at a big disadvantage. He fed me multiple times after that because he simply did not understand the power difference between us. So what happen was, he would have to test it by fighting me and this enabled me to kill him. I didn't have to test. I tested this already in the billion Yas vs Kayle games I played before. In contrast, if he has managed to get ahead of me in lane and finished item 3006item 3087 while I'm sitting on a item 3101item 3006, the average person might look at that and say that he has the item advantage which is true but I will still take that fight because again, due to playing the matchup multiple times under these circumstances I know how to win it. In this case, all I have to do is pop his shield, back off before he can trade damage, and go back in and hammer him to death with my ult ready to pop at any time. Despite having more damage, I know my attack speed would melt his squishy ass in no time. My ult prevents him from killing me in time.

There was another game too where I just ran into the enemy team 4v1 after they won a team fight against my team. Got a Quadra. I didn't doubt for a second that I would succeed because I know what she can do and when she can do it.

Point is one tricking gives you a huge advantage at my level of play. I rarely have to guess about what I can and cannot do with my champion.

I want 10 bans because I hate being first/second pick right now and being at the mercy of my team to ban something. If everyone on the team has a ban, then its much smoother, less to fight about etc. The only flaw I can see in adding 10 bans is the barrier to draft goes up by 4 champions, and lobbies take longer finish.

Tbh 10 bans is way too many. There's never that many champions at one time that are overpowered, and we're giving people excuses to not learn how to play against certain champs. People already do this now, rather than banning situationally, and we only have 6.

Not really. 10 bans is still only like ~7% of the roster.

Well okay I'll dial back and say it's not too high if we used bans for their intended purpose (banning champs that might counter your intended team comp). If people did that, I don't think I'd care about 10 bans. But I think 10 is too many when the people will always ban the same champs, regardless of other factors, because certain websites and communities like this one have convinced people that more than like 1-2 champs at a time are "broken" and "shouldn't be played until they're nerfed."

If people are always banning champions because they hate playing against them, it means the champion was poorly designed and needs work just as much as any overpowered champion does, if not more so. Moving the bans to 10 is actually potentially very good for game balance, because it gives Riot champion design and the balance team more insight into what players really dislike having to deal with.

Mr Fidori1 votes

Except that some the most frequently banned champions are Zed Darius Gangplank Blitzcrank and Soraka, who all fulfill extremely common niches. If they were banned against champs they'd do well against, that'd be one thing, but they get banned regardless of team comp.

None of these are poorly designed, so really all it says is "players really dislike having to deal with" assassins, crowd control, or healing.

What? You seriously don't think Gangplank is banned because he's blatantly broken at the moment? O-o He has some pretty hefty nerfs going into the next patch, and Riot has come out and said it probably isn't even enough.

Many of these champions are banned for high frustration levels (all of them? Except maybe Darius? Who isn't banned that frequently anyways). If a champion is extremely frustrating to play against, that's a sign of poor design. You might not like to hear it, but Soraka, Blitzcrank and Zed are all pretty well defined by their high frustration levels, particularly in the lane phase.
