Another huge disparity: MR is strong vs AP champs, armor is useless vs AD champs

When facing multiple AP champs the decision what to build is pretty easy taken. Both Banshee and Spirit Visage offer both HP and MR. When facing AD champs the decision becomes unclear. Most AD champs don't care about armor or when they do they can buy items to deal magic damage on hit or they have other means to get pass your armor. Also they can buy crit or they are AS based champs. So wether you buy armor, hp or AS reduction it is never enough while mr and hp simply counter mages. Lets take a look.

  • Champs Aatrox: magic damage on hit on his ult Ezreal Hybrid scaling Corki Hybrid scaling Darius True damage Irelia Activates W to ignore all enemy armor Gangplank Barrel armor penetration basically means true damage Fiora True HP% damage Gnar Magic+ max HP% damage on every 3rd hit Jax magic damage on hit MasterYi Activates E so bBasic attacks deal bonus true damage on hit Olaf Activates E to deal true damage to target enemy Rengar Huge amount of magic damage. You can even build him AP and delete squishies just by pressing W Shyvana Hybryd Trundle Steals your armor and mr with his ult Tristana Hybryd Vayne True HP% damage Yasuo 50% armor penetration on his ult

  • Items AD/AS based champs can buy item 3153 Turns your HP into bonus (at least) physical damage item 1403 tons of magic damage on hit item 3124 tons of magic damage on hit item 3036 Turns your HP into bonus (at least) physical damage item 3091 tons of magic damage on hit item 3087 tons of magic damage on hit

  • **Compared to AD/AS champs no single mage deals bonus physical damage on hit! Just a couple deal HP% damage and mostly missing HP% magic damage. ** Amumu Max HP% magic damage. Very low scaling Malzahar Only AP champ with truely an nti-tank ablity in his kit. His pool deals Max% magic damage but recently got nerfed andnow deals 25% less damage at max stacks Chogath Only AP champ with true damage in his kit

item 3151 is the only AP item that deals HP based damage but it sucks compared to the AD items based on HP damage and to most AD/AS champ's kit to deal with HP stacking champs.

  • Conclusion So basically you build MR and HP and almost every AP champ is countered and both stats are available on the same items. When you build armor vs AD champs they have tools to deal magic damage to you or damage based on your HP. AS based champs will start ignoring your armor by dealing magic damage on hit or start ignoring your armor because they have abilities like Fiora, Vayne, Irelia. Therefor the following items make no sense:

item 3075 This should be vs AD champs reliant on criticals and champs reliant on HP% physical damage item 3143 This should be vs AS champs, but they usually deal tons of magic damage on hit or have other ways to bypass your armor so this item should give MR instead of armor item 3110 This shoud be vs AS reliant champs who deal mostly physical damage and HP% physical damage.

TL;DR: At this point armor is the most useless stat in the game and AS reduction feels the most unsatisfactory stat to build since it comes with armor while you really need MR. Also why do so many AD champs have items or abilities to nullify armor/HP while AP champs don't have the same options? AD champs can buy items to deal massive magic damage on hit to render armor useless but AP champs don't have items to deal physical damage on hit.

in an ap vs ad lane, if you rush armseeker and opponent rushes hex you are done

ap's are literally useless, the only reason you would pick them is so that if you get fed, you can force the opponent to buy MR instead of full stacking armor. going double ap is just plain suicide since 1 item can make 2 people on your team useless

That is what I am saying. Every AP champ is countered by MR/HP but AD champs aren't even countered by armor since they have tons of ways to deal with that.

its the other way around.

No it's not.

AP are CD based. When they use everything, they don't have auto attacks. They have to wait around for their CD to be back up. So Ap are heavily countered by HP and MR.

Any ad can just auto attack you with their insane AS/Crits/Lifesteal/%hp damage/Magic on hit damage. Ad are not heavily countered because they have a constant amount of damage that gets easily out of hand. That's the only reason assassins exist because we need to instakill them in one rotation otherwise they wreck havoc.

How? Especially when AD have a shit ton of cheap armor pen options while AP has... boots?

Magic Pen options:

  1. item 3020
  2. item 3136 and builds into the incredibly niche item 3151
  3. item 3001
  4. item 3135

Now for armor pen options:

  1. item 3133 builds into item 3071 item 3812 item 3142 item 1412 item 3508
  2. item 3134 builds into item 3156 item 3142
  3. item 3035 builds into item 3123 item 3036

4 full item options for magic pen, one of them only useful on a select few mages (item 3151 ), 9 armor pen options, though one is exclusively for jungling and two of them are essentially the same item with different passives ( item 3123 item 3036 )

Let me fix that for you.

Resistances are strong against burst damage.

Resistances are weaker against consistent damage.

  • Champs Aatrox: magic damage on hit on his ult

False. It does a burst of magic damage when activated, but it doesn't deal any magic damage on-hit

Corki Hybrid scaling

Deals primarily magic damage now.

Darius True damage

On his ultimate. Majority of damage is still physical.

Irelia Activates W to ignore all enemy armor

Majority of damage is still physical. Even her on-hit true damage is applied on her basic attacks.

Gangplank Barrel armor penetration basically means true damage

Barrel armor penetration is 40%. This is significantly less than true damage (which is 100% resistances ignored.

MasterYi Activates E so bBasic attacks deal bonus true damage on hit

Majority of his damage is from basic attacks and/or on-hit effects (i.e. Devourer, E, BoRK). While he ignores a significant amount of armor when he is built on-hit instead of crit, his true damage is only part of that (and it's pretty low if you don't build AD).

Olaf Activates E to deal true damage to target enemy

Majority of Olaf's damage to champions is physical. His E is useful for harass, but the majority of his damage is still from his basic attacks and Q.

Rengar Huge amount of magic damage. You can even build him AP and delete squishies just by pressing W

He only deletes people using an AP build when he has items which provide artificial scaling (i.e. Lichbane, Luden's Echo). His W can be double-cast for magic damage, but that means you can't use his Q for damage and attack speed or E for CC.

Vayne True HP% damage

Only occurs every 3 basic attacks and she builds a significant amount of attack speed, crit, and AD. Quite frankly, 12% Max Health True Damage is less significant when each of her basic attacks hits for 800+ damage.

Yasuo 50% armor penetration on his ult

50% Bonus armor penetration. This doesn't affect base armor.

  • Items AD/AS based champs can buy item 3087 tons of magic damage on hit

30-100 Bonus Magic Damage every 6-8 hits is tons of damage?

  • **Compared to AD/AS champs no single mage deals bonus physical damage on hit! Just a couple deal HP% damage and mostly missing HP% magic damage. ** Malzahar Only AP champ with truely an nti-tank ablity in his kit. His pool deals Max% magic damage but recently got nerfed andnow deals 25% less damage at max stacks

Brand Passive

Chogath Only AP champ with true damage in his kit

Ahri's Q, Velkoz's Passive

While you are welcome to your own opinion, making so many blatant mistakes doesn't really help your argument.

You must be a Riot balancing team lover to fix that which is not broken. You are only right on Aatrox. I use the AD champs and their abilities as an example to show they have tools in their kit to ignore armor, something which hardly any AP champ has to ignore mr, just 3 champs. And they can't even do it consistently. AP champs don't have items that scale with AP and deal physical damage on hit to bypass mr or toggle's/abilities to ignore mr for a certain duration. That is the huge disparity and that argument is still standing.

I thought this was going to be about the terrible armor itemization right now (Thornmail sucks, Frozen Heart nerfed hard, Randuins mediocre, etc.).

A combination of bad armor items and poor AP itemization is making AD champions way stronger than normal.
