Taric should not be a statistically significant mid lane pick

The Taric + Yi strategy currently has a 1.6% average pick rate in Diamond over the past week, and 60-65% win rate. If you narrow it down to the past couple of days, it's about 3% and climbing; the average is brought down by it not being widespread until very recently.

With the changes to jungle EXP, we knew that funneling was going to be a problem before the season even started, yet it still wasn't nerfed. Now we have op.gg and other analytics sites reporting Taric as the #1 mid laner.

This strategy is too effective and has too little counterplay with the jungle in this state. If you look up players who are using this strategy, you'll find that many of them have been stuck at low Platinum for the past 4+ seasons and are now pushing Master with 70%+ win rate.

I think that this strategy needs to be fixed ASAP. If it's allowed to go unchecked and more people start picking it up, we're going to end up with the ranked ladder in the same state it was in at the start of the last season.

Last time, they nerfed Taric's R for that, ie. they increased its CD. This was pointless, as we can see. The problem mostly relies on Yi, who gets rewarded far too much with respect to how much "skill" he requires; and on the fact that a supposed game chaning, full team ultimate as Taric's is, is being used for just 1 champ and it's so effective.

Sadly, nobody worked about that in a comp effective way.

It’s because Yi’s only weakness when he ults is to burst him down, but with a Taric ult you can’t do that. Yes you can try to land cc but with how often YI can hit Q, it’s nearly impossible to make him stand still. Plus Taric can use his E to give Yi cc in a sense. So not only are the two closer together and interacting more often, but Yi is also getting the experience from two roles while having an ally that is always there to remove almost all of his weaknesses. This isn’t Taric’s fault but when Yi already has so few weakness and then you get a support, the role that is all about removing weaknesses a team comp or ally may have, you just have a strategy that is nearly unstoppable.

It's funny how whenever a funnelling strat becomes a thing, Taric is always the offender. His ultimate is lowkey bullshit imo. Within the last year or so he only becomes popular when it's because of funnelling.

The issue is: Master Yi Q resets tower aggro Master Yi kills lower his cd by 70% allowing him to chain spam Q most of the time

I think the issue is they need to change either taric or support items to be shit when doing funneling strats. For example the support passive only recharges early when near an ally champion.

Or tarics ultimate only increases armour and Mr for a significant amount

God this was only predicted by a dozen posts in pre season. But as usual dogshit solo laners loved the XP buffs to lane, and loved the XP nerfs to jungle. What a fucking shocker. Hope this strategy continues to dominate soloQ until they fix the fucking jungle.
