League Sub-Roles: Sub-Roles for the Marksman Category

Snipers Ashe Caitlyn Jhin Varus Long ranged DPS that rely on crowd control or gated yet decent mobility to pick off enemies. These ADCs are often more reliant on their abilities for overall effectiveness rather than being pure DPS cannons.

Gunslingers Corki Draven Ezreal Graves Kalista Kindred Lucian Quinn Shorter ranged DPS that usually rely on quick bursts of damage usually lasting within a few seconds to decimate a target. Fairly mobile and packing very light to moderate crowd control (or not, more damage then), these guys are usually extremely scary in a duel. Their abilities often provide them with the means to survive and thrive in fights, but their basic attacks can still deal some serious damage.

Shredders Jinx KogMaw MissFortune Sivir Tristana Twitch Vayne Absolute DPS cannons, these guys are all about shredding through the enemy team's health bars as if it was cheese and their basic attacks the grater. Their abilities are often the back up in case things don't go as planned, although some are completely defined by their abilities and the AoE damage or utility they provide. No matter what way, these characters are almost always going to be a huge reason for their team's victory when ahead.

Riot currently doesn't have sub-categories for Marksman so I decided to make some based on the champions. Some of them can fit into multiple (like how Vayne is both a Gunslinger and Shredder and Ezreal is somewhat of a Sniper and Gunslinger), but these are in general pretty good categories to fit them in.

These are pretty good subcategories, but I feel there needs to be a utility marksman subclass somewhere here. Ashe has good range, but isn't really a sniper in the sense that she picks off targets from long distances, and is mostly picked for her massive CC and utility. Similarly, champions like Sivir, Kalista and even Varus are all mainly notable for the utility/CC and ally synergy they provide, rather than their raw damage (Varus packs quite a punch, though, so he might be somewhat of an exception). While extra range is always a plus on a marksman, I feel the overal contribution of a Sniper like Caitlyn or Jhin often comes down to the same core points as a Gunslinger: their damage mostly comes in bursts, which makes them great at taking down single targets, and they use their abilities to steer away from incoming damage and enhance their own power. In many cases, Ashe, Cait, Jhin and Varus will also be fighting at lower combat ranges than, say Kog'Maw, Tristana, Ezreal or even Jinx, so their range isn't always a consistent advantage.

Would probably swap Kindred and Vayne. Draven being a Shredder seems debateable.

I wouldn't consider Draven a Gunslinger since he isn't really mobile.

He has pretty good uptime on his MS if he keeps catching axes, but I agree with him not being super mobile. I just don't see him being the type to shred either since he is single target / can't buy Runaan's and has no other AOE or % damage.

Crit Draven pops people who aren't giga-Tanks though. He's as much of a Shredder as Vayne is since he makes up for a lack of anti-tank effects with pure flat damage that is honestly scary to watch happen.

Ez is more a gnslinger than a sniper, he has no CC in his kit at all and is rather bursty for an adc with strong dueling. With iceborn he gets some 'sniper' qualities, but his kit it self is certainly closer to Gunslingers. I personaly also would put tristana to the Shreders as she's only a gunslinger duering lane and then clear transitions into a high-range dps beast with powerfull cleanup for fights.

Also, Draven is more a Gunslinger, thriveing in duels but only transitioning well into teamfights if ahead. Actually, most other adc have higher team-shredding potential than him...he's all about getting the snowball of with a big cash in from the passive, if he stays on even gold, he sucks.

they all seem to do the same thing. which is stand there and auto you.

They all do it in different ways, though. You can't tell me that you can play Lucian and Jinx exactly the same and there would be no difference, or that you play exactly the same against both Lucian and Jinx.

Where would Kai'sa and Xayah be? I really like this, so I just want to know.
