Does armor/mr give diminishing returns?

The more armor you build, the less % physical damage reduction you receive, which suggests diminishing returns since the cost of each point of armor is the same, but the physical damage it reduces is less.

But I heard a lot of people say it does NOT give diminishing returns. I'd like an explanation or links to articles about this, thnx.

It does give diminishing returns. Otherwise it would be possible to reach 100% damage reduction from physical damage. After around 300 armor it's best to invest in HP more because the high % reduction will make each point of hp increase in efficiency.

Well, it does give diminishing returns on percent damage reduction. However, it is a linear multiplier of your effective health.

Every 1 point of resist gives you 1% more effective HP.

So if you are spending your gold on effective HP, your gold is always worth the same for a given amount of actual HP that you have, so in that sense your gold is not diminishing in value when you spend it on more resist, no matter how much resist you have.

The formula is (with Armor > 0) : Damage multiplier = 100/100+Armor

Armor gives diminishing returns, by its own formula, as like MR do. But even when doing diminishing returns still increase effective HP, more than pure HP until a certain point because it make harder for the enemy to shred your HP

The thing is more about how efficiently you allocate your gold among the different defensive stats (armor, HP and MR) to get the most effective hitpoints against the enemy comps you are facing
