Greenfather's Gift is almost as strong as Grasp of the Undying.

Can you admit the resolve tree sucks, Riot?

######_Edit: Courage of the Colossus alone doesn't make it a good tree. It makes Courage of the Colossus a good mastery...for the champions that can actually make use of it. _

Resolve is shit for non-support tanks just like ferocity is shit for most non-DoT mages.

Penns2 votes

So then.. what keystone do tanks take? Poppy, Zac, Nautilus,....?

WoonStruck6 votes

Implying keystones are the only things in the trees.

Implying champions with no hard cc that need to be tanky have any decent options at all.

Lol.

Penns17 votes

Tank circlejerk is the best Kappa Theres a mastery that gives you free ZZ rot stats minus the hp regen for 2 seconds late game just by taking damage with effectively 7s cooldown... Thats like getting an instantly stacked Fervor every few seconds just for dealing 1 damage.

Big Lincoln3 votes

the cooldown doesn't start until the buff wears off; it's still 9 second CD

but IMO resolve masteries aren't bad, they just need to be shuffled around like ferocity got. unyielding and legendary guardian should swap, veteran's scars should be made % health again, and perseverance should be reworked to fit tanks better since it's only good on heimerdinger

CotC is busted but i can guarantee it's gonna get nerfed hard soon. doesn't mean grasp should be as bad as it is RN, and bond of stone should be replaced since cotc is way better for every single champ that actually took bond (tanky supports)

Penns2 votes

Oh ok, not a big difference tho. I think its already like the best tree, Im actually considering going 0/18/12 for that 9 second cooldown mastery thing as mid laner vs bursty champs.

WoonStruck1 votes

You do realize that Insight, swiftness, and Courage are the only masteries people actually want the resolve tree for now, right?

Any of the actual 'tank' options are far too gimmicky or minimal to really have an effect, especially considering there are so many % damage increases which used to be a single cap masteries between 3 and 5% in earlier seasons.

Swiftness and Insight aren't even extremely strong. They're just useful, unlike everything else in the tree.

Penns1 votes

If I go for the Cunning tree, Thunderlords and Intelligence are literally the only masteries I want too, the others are all "meh, I gotta take something to get there"...
Same goes for Ferocity, the only ones you would really want there are the last 2 + maybe Feast if you have a bad matchup or Expose Weakness as support.

WoonStruck1 votes

That's a complete fucking lie.

Ferocity

2% damage increase for free. That's 66% of what a 21 point investment got you in previous seasons. For a T1 mastery.

Feast is godlike.

T3 isn't amazing, but its still raw stats with significant gold value, especially compared to resolve.

T4 are all great.

T5 is free % pen. Directly increases damage. More significant the tankier the target is.

Cunning

Savagery makes last hitting under tower, and in general, incredibly reliable.

Assassin is a free 2% damage increase if you're a solo laner.

Both Merciless and Meditation are extremely useful. They boost your mana regen/damage significantly.

Dangerous Game is incredible for teamfighting.

A ton of flat pen or 5% CDR, able to go above CDR cap. Also significant.

You're probably going to try to make resolve sound good as well, except there's two HUGE differences.

  1. Nothing in resolve multiplies in any significant way with another mastery.

  2. Nearly all are extremely situational, unlike ferocity/cunning masteries.

Penns1 votes

Yeah masteries are better now in general... That mastery is gonna increase your spell damage by like 6 mid game lol.

Feast is fine, pretty good but it has 30s cooldown.

I wouldnt say they are all great. theyre just a bit more dmg.

If you think 5 more damage makes last hitting "incredibly reliable" or 4 mana every 5 seconds "boosts your mana regen significantly"... ok.

Ill just do what you said I will and say: Isnt 5% bonus armor/mr good? Or 8 armor/mr early in melee vs ranged when youre under tower? Or the bonus heals/shields so that Courage for example can give you a 920 instead of a 850 shield? Or what about the free 50 armor/mr for taking damage if you have 250 armor/mr?

And Courage is basically Thunderlords times 10 for tanks, so I dont think anyone should complain about that tree before it gets nerfed.

RavenMagus1 votes

"Incredibly reliable" is probably a bit overstating things, but Meditation actually is significant. For a lot of mages it's about as good as a 50% mana regen increase when you're at half mana, and scales up to nearly 100% when you're just about empty. Considering that the only other mana regen you can ever buy is from Doran's Ring (instead you get to buy straight mana via Morello's or RoA or Tear, all of which make Meditation better), getting that much mana regen from a mastery is impressive.

That a bad mastery in the middle of cunning is almost as powerful as the only option for anyone looking to get tanky without reliable hard cc.

Marshbouy1 votes

Oh. I have only been awake for 10 min and my brain wasn't caught up, i see now.

Verdade2 votes

Name champion that wants to get new shield keystone, doesn't have CC and doesn't require another keystone. I dare you.

Dracocrash1 votes

chogath (and before you say he has CC, its very hard and unreliable to land)

chipndip12 votes

He can still get it though so this doesn't count.

Also, he can just go T. Lord's since his combo is knock-up, scream, eat.

Dr. Mundo doesn't have hard CC and this keystone requires hard CC. It's worthless on him.

RavenMagus12 votes

Yes, that's the point.

He wants to be tanky with the giant shield, but can't because he doesn't have CC.

AFK Push3 votes

There are a lot of matchups where he can't even use grasp leaving him without a keystone for the majority of the game, so I aggree that he needs access to the new one too mang.

President Swa1n2 votes

IMO the only change needed is Bond of Stone be switched out for something else. Knight's Vow can be built on all those champions that currently take it.

Technically windspeaker's blessing's bonus healing does work on his Q refund and his ultimate...

SH Azykan1 votes

but mundo wants the tenacity pretty bad in resolve, changing his page to 0/18/12 is weird for a tank who, at least I go 6/6/18 on (currently use grasp which feels weird)

I'm saying technically.

Tenacity is real good on him I agree.

RavenMagus1 votes

Grasp just feels really, really weak though. At nearly full build you'll probably be rocking 4000-ish health... at which point Grasp does 120 damage and heals for 60...

SH Azykan1 votes

yeah it does feel weak, and kinda awkward, though Grasp is meant to be stronger in lane though not really a late game keystone, but you cant get into range to attack a lot of people in top atm q_q

AFK Push1 votes

The only other option after that is deathfire and thats if I'm gonna have an easy lane, and going for a spell pen bruiser build. Still no good options for mundo. Feelsbadman.

Yes, yes it does feel bad. As someone who played a lot of mundo top... Keystones have sucked for a while.

AFK Push1 votes

He's my third most played champ atm, and as a top main keystones are in the shitter for a lot of bruisers with almost no cc. Tanks and bruisers with hard cc are in right now imo, colossus is just that good.

Well as someone who used to play a lot of melee carries, especially nocturne, all of my choices feel really shitty. I'm actually considering trying colossus on him, even though his e is so hard to actually proc in a teamfight.

AFK Push1 votes

Actually the new fervor is geared towards helping ADC and melee carries out the most. It can grant up to 60 ad which is nice.

In 10 hits.

Doesn't have any bonus for melee.

Nocturne is a semi melee carry/assassin. By the time he lands 10 auto attacks, either their entire team is dead, or nocturne is dead. The new fervor is a joke, it's only good on ADC and perhaps some bruisers.

Old fervor sucked on melee carries as well (didn't scale well, they only got it cause it was better than the other two and stacked faster for melee).

Garen Nunu YorickNasus DrMundo

Verdade1 votes

Garen's Q procs it afaik

Nunu is better off with Grasp as he has increased max HP, he can draintank with his Visage+Q+Grasp very well

Susan NEEDS Stormriders, he also benefits greatly from extra 5% CDR. Grasp is also quite decent, but i'd never take Courage over these 2.

Yorick is beast with DFT, each ghoul hit triggers it, as well as Maiden. I'd never take Courage over it.

Mundo requires bond of Stone's DR as it's hugely improved by his self-healing. It basically increases all healing taken by 4%. Or go for grasp for off-ulti draintank, as you're already getting Spirit Visage.

No, only abilities that prevent movement are considered hard cc.

Yorick is beast with DFT

Why? He builds almost no AD.

Skias5 votes

They are both pretty weak.

Kynami5 votes

Greenfathers is actually a darn sight weaker.

3% of their current instead of 3% of your max. Requires a nearby bush to prep and must be used within 2 seconds of leaving said brush... instead of just needing to be in combat for a short duration. Doesn't heal the user. Locks one out of Bandit or Dangerous Game because its on the same level.
