The lane often times gets decided during champ select already, as hard counters basically spell no farm for the entire laning phase. Try and dare farm? you're dead. And there are far too many hard counters to anything. Ranged top laners? We have plenty. Oh, you feel like playing a tank? How cute, most bruisers will 100-0 you by 6 anyway.

Then, if you've managed by god's will to avoid getting picked into, worry not - as your actions and/or gameplay as a top laner are completely are utterly irrelevant. The lane will be completely decided by the jungler whether you like it or not, and you're nothing but a pawn in the grand scheme of things. Have fun!
