Help me play top!

Hey Guys, I have been really trying to climb recently, and one role that is sticking with me is top, but im really bad at it I mean, if im versing a: I get stomped, I don't want to be farming at turret and doing nothing all game, but I really enjoy playing So any tips for a beginner wanting to get better, I wan't to make an impact in the team, but I love building some tank, being a bruiser and being good at team fighting and split pushing? (And yes, I know someone in bronze should not be playing riven, but shes fun, I love her combos but im only learning her in normals, so once I climb I will play her more seriously)
