Can someone at Riot please explain the rationale behind the Evelynn changes thus far?
Hi, I posted this on the PBE forums but also wanted to post it here for more exposure.
Hi there, let me preface this by saying that on live my account's name is Maya Fey. I'm a Plat Eve main with over 230 ranked eve games this season alone. She is by and far my favorite champion in the game and I have taken a lot of time to learn her ins and outs, and will use her no matter what.
Now the most recent changes to Evelynn (to hit live) were the stealth change (quite welcome!) and the W change. For those who don't know what her W is, it is her speed buff, labled Dark Frenzy. Before patch 5.6, this ability had a passive where it would grant flat movement speed (ranging from 4 to 20 depending on rank, stacking 4 times). This allowed her to stick despite her lack of CC, and synergized well with her spammy kit.
However in patch 5.6 Riot decided to change this, removing the flat movespeed entirely and instead favoring a cooldown reduction mechanic on spell landing despite it already having a full reset mechanic on kill and assist. This was by and far, not an even trade. The only thing this is even remotely useful for is kiting back from a pursuer (old passive was better for this anyways) and immediately cleansing a slow after ulting a team if you used W to initiate. What she lost on the other hand was a ton of sticking power, especially relevant to her early game and late game.
Let's discuss the early game first. Every since Riot gutted Eve's base damage and upped the ratios (rightfully so) Eve has had a very poor ganking phase pre-6, which is fine it forced her to use her stealth much better to be successful in those early ganks. The issue is however this W change makes them EVEN WORSE. Let's take your favorite jungler and suddenly remove 16 movement speed from them... wouldn't feel so great huh? I've lost so many extremely easy ganks that ANY OTHER JUNGLER would have been able to pull off due to her complete inability to keep up with practically any champion in the early levels. No damage change will fix this, unless you break her.
Next you have her late game, which is statistically worse according to champion.gg now, and isn't just my imagination. The loss of 80 flat movement speed was huge, especially considering in late game teamfights the CDR mechanic becomes useless as the reset mechanic would have done all the work. So you're essentially giving up 80 flat movement speed for... nothing. You lose any sort of ability to dodge CC, any sort of ability to stick to blinking targets, eve becomes useless in any sort of assassin build and is forced to build tanky; the very thing you wanted to avoid.
So please Riot, revert this change for the sake of the champion, please swallow your pride and admit the change was bad.
If you want an extremely experienced Eve player to discuss with though I'd be more than willing to give my input. Just message me in game or by my skype: Her0nz.
Thanks for taking the time to read ~ Brian.
stick, and for a champ's whose kit logically wants to apply a lot of early pressure, that's not good.
