Somewhat disappointed with the Taric Rework.

EDIT: Bring on the downvotes for having an opinion I guess... I'd really like to love this rework, but it just seems very constricting to me. I'd appreciate some constructive conversation rather than blind disagreement.

EDIT #2: Upon looking into PBE notes, I noticed that the damage from E and the Heal from Q don't stack from the duplicate spells. Only a slight disadvantage in solo lanes now.

Unpopular opinion I know, but here's why.

It's highly reminiscent of the Mordekaiser Rework in that his kit almost forces him to be in a duo lane, and being Melee forces him to support.

This is just like how Mordekaiser lost out on a ton of damage if he wasn't in a duo lane, until W became castable on minions.

This W makes all of Taric's abilities half as effective when not near an ally... many people like to play Taric Top or Jungle currently, but this basically rules both positions out.

I'd suggest either making W castable on minions, or reworking the W all together. The idea of being a protector of sorts and having a bond with your ADC is cool, but it ruins diversity for Taric and confines him to a single place in League, with no exceptions.

Nope:

Double dipping any of his spells doesn't get you more effect. The cool opportunities Bastion provides is that you can exert influence on two areas of a fight. If double dipping gave you increased damage/healing, the optimal play would be to always stand next to the person your linked to, which would feel pretty lame to play.

And since W is self-castable, you literally lose 0 power when not near an ally. All you lose is the ability to share your fabulousness across a wider area.

Just jumped into a PBE game and I can confirm Taric is able to cast W on himself for the shield. Can't believe I forgot to try that...

No, it doesn't.

Furthermore, Taric's most common role before the rework was Support while Morde before his rework was universally played as solo laner.

Would you mind explaining how it doesn't force him into a duo lane? He loses half of his kit's power when not bound to an ally.

Most of his Q healing would be on himself anyways. He can W himself for a shield Landing a Dazzle on the opponent still stuns and deals the same amount of damage. Plus, as the melee champion, you were probably depending on the cast from your position to land instead of your adc because you should be closer to the target

Also, the range on W seems to be VERY long meaning that you shouldn't have any difficulty casting it on your jungler as they charge in for a gank.

This still doesn't change the fact that he is missing out on some of the power in his kit by being in a solo lane, whether it be healing to/from allies, damage from his stun, or wasting shield on nothing but yourself. Sure, Taric gains some of that power during jungle ganks, but when actually in the lane solo, Taric isn't as powerful as any other champion.

Some, but not half. Taric has always lost out on some power in his kit by going in a solo lane because of the utility of his stun, less efficient healing when used only on himself, "wasting" his auras, etc., yet top lane Taric generally becomes viable around the same balance point as support lane Taric (sometimes MORE viable) in spite of that.

Every champion in the game loses SOME hypothetical power when they go into a solo lane vs. a duo. Nasus hypothetically gives up some power because the slow on wither would be powerful utility to help hold a target down for his support to deal a lot of damage on and the AoE on E and R could hypothetically hit two targets instead of one, but we don't see Nasus played with a support (or as one) very often.

Champions are allowed to be missing some of their power in certain situations. During the Juggernaut update Garen had a fair amount of his early game power shifted into his true damage. After the update he got a nerf where his own deaths no longer count for the true damage passive.

This removed a fair amount of his power from his lane phase without any in lane compensation. The real question when it comes to Taric is whether his numbers are correct for a solo lane position. Garen still does fine even with that chunk of power removed, but for Taric we will have to wait and see how he does on the live servers before we can really decide.

It's because he doesn't actually lose much of his solo potential without his W on someone.

W's active is designed to give him extra team fighting power, not extra dueling power. His dueling is all that matters when considering a solo position. In all honesty if he could do the double cast thing without an ally around he would be getting nerfs to his solo lane capability.

Besides, W works perfectly fine when your jungler comes around.

It's not that he doesn't have solo potential or dueling potential, it's just that much of his budgeted power is wasted in a solo lane, and so he is at a disadvantage just for being solo.

Have you played him yet? The only part that feels worse than in a duo lane is the shield. Everything else feels fine for a solo laner.

The double casting thing feels like an added bonus, rather than a detriment when it came to balancing him. Maybe he could be allowed to cast W on himself for the shield, but putting the double casting thing into a solo lane would be too much.

He can do top, just with poor damage til he get a bit of armor and maybe IBG. He's not half as crippled as Morde was before they made his W self-castable.

Being in a solo lane doesn't affect how well his Q works, nor his passive. It does give him less range and coverage for his stun, but that seems pretty fair for a solo lane.

trash sion1 votes

I'd like to argue that he's going to be even more crippled than Morde. Taric loses nearly half of his power when not near a teammate. Rather than casting Q twice, it gets cast once. I assume the W shield is self castable, but even so he's missing out on a lot of budgeted power because half of the shield is going to waste by not being cast on anyone. Same goes for the heal. His E loses half of its damage and it is much harder to hit when only one cast is made rather than two. The only things that really go unchanged are his passive and ultimate, but he's still missing out on some of his budgeted ultimate power by only using it on one person rather than two.

It seems your Edit #2 has covered what my reply to this comment would've been. His E behaves a lot like Lulu's Glitterlance; covers a large area with 2 line skillshots, but only the first one that connects has any effect.

I'm just upset that he lost his shield and the visuals in game are actually underwhelming considering how fabulous he is....... wtf
