Why are we nerfing Dark Seal's AP instead of it's real problem?

Katarina has been hit by too many indirect nerf bats because now you've lowered Dark Seal to below the AP you get from a Doran's Ring. On top of that you did it because "people can buy multiples and their sell value is good", but instead of targeting the MAIN REASON WHY there are multiples being bought in the first place. _ :25% increased healing from Potions _, you target the one thing that ISN'T making it OP. You know, maybe if you'd make that ONE THING UNIQUE, you wouldn't need to indirectly nerf other people who use this item and aren't overpowered from it.

I don’t usually question their design choices but even I’m scratching my head at them not making the potion buff a unique passive.

because since season 6 the balance team got swapped out with people who dont even play this game and who only do buffs/nerfs that dont hit the actual problem. anyone still surprised at this point isnt any better than the balance team imo.

just wait until they remove 5 ms from riven and call it a day. IF they even touch riven at all.

It is ludicrous to me that people think sustain is not way out of line right now. Everything offers sustain. I remember when if you took a terrible trade and lost 80% of your health you had to back now it is like 2 biscuits with timewarp and I'm back to full health.

I paid no real mind to dark seal, but when you mention the potions boost not being unique...that is a strange oversight.

I think it was a good nerf. Its a snowbally item that now sell for less. Its good. Yes they can make it aunique passive. Byt the gold nerf was good

The reason they're not moving the sell price is because they want people to take risks. If they lower the sell price it's possible people will stop taking the risk. Currently I do believe that the item is not enough of a risk because it is too strong, but I still see the value in a risky starting item and I want that niche to stay. This change reduces the strength of the item to make it riskier without outright punishing people when the risk doesn't work. This is what makes sense to me.

The reason riot nerfed dark seal is for abuses like vlad and leblanc riot taken notes of my stream !! i told them these abuse the items scale super hard then cant die

Okay so I don't play Kat but I relate all too well. Like Vlad the starting options suck for midlane. Toplane d shield is excusable. Midlane its useless for him as it doesn't give the health or ap he requires for early and the small sustains d shield provide do not help in his bad matchups at all. Boots are just horrid start on him unless you have predator which sucks on him since it can be cancelled by his w before his combo hits. D ring just isn't for him either like it wouldn't work on Kat either. And what do I go ruby crystal? Amplifying tome? D seal before used to give him good AP, and allow him to survive lane Cus of the healing passive. Plus only getting up to 35 AP a tax stacks now sucks if you are playing crazy good like it is just 20 more d ring which one simple amplifying tome resolves. Like god the whole concept of dark seal is a dangerous AP starter item that scaled too a good chunk of AP early if you played well. Now it feels like a get 2 and u will always be healthy through refillables and corrupting.

Less AP on it means less damage for the people who start with it. How is that a bad thing? It outclassed Doran's by a lot, not only because of higher potential power, but also because you can sell it for a higher % of your investment. Rarely anybody needs the mana reg on Doran's nowadays, THAT is the real problem.
