Is there a point to Irelia having mana? It doesn't seem like she loses any.

VoraciousX··35 votes·12,643 views

Literally seen her Q 2 whole waves and only lose a tiny bit of mana. Her highest mana cost ability is her ultimate and it's 100, her second highest is 90 and it's almost a 10 second cooldown late game, Her E only costs 50. Like is there any purpose to someone who has over 1.1k mana using less than 10% of it in a teamfight? I mean I tested it out myself. I can Q whole waves and have my mana pool back up to full in a few seconds. She's probably the only champion I can think of who doesn't have mana issues at all late game that doesn't build a single mana item except Sheen. I mean compensate her with some(not full) mana restoration on her Q if you want, but at least give her some mana costs.

Hell GP only has 3 abilities that cost mana and one of his costs as much as Irelia clearing an entire wave of minions.

Because if she uses abilites incorrectly in lane, misses Q timings or her ult, she drains mana quickly. Mana is there to stop her from running wild early.

At least that's my take away from it

They could just lower her damage and make her manaless, because late game that crap doesn't matter one bit. Even GP, as I said, uses a shit ton of mana. Early game champions use a lot too. Look at Darius' costs.

You can not miss Q timings since her recent, unnecessary buff.

Fiora is another example. Actually almost every ad fighter has no mana issues in late without need to build any mana granting item. But most of them actually runs oom early at least.

But when mages had no mana issues when they dedicated one rune for it and bought mana granting mana regenerating item it was a problem and had to be nerfed instantly...

I've seen Fiora's with some pretty low mana too. Her Q is twice the cost of Irelia's. I suppose that could be because Fiora actually has less than 200 less mana than Irelia on top of having double her mana costs on Q.

So long as you aren’t spamming E on Fiora your mana is gonna last a good while. She still has typical mana issues in that regard, limiting how much keyboard rolling she can do early on.

Idk about Irelia, haven’t faced too many in lane (top) but the few I have it definitely seems Q’ing an entire wave does actually eat a good amount of mana.

Not like her Q is instantly clearing the wave anyway. She’s basically using it as a last-hit basic attack.

Late game I cleared waves, and have seen other Irelia's clear waves instantly without worrying one bit about last hits, and again, regened my mana nearly to full before the next wave came. I tested it myself in practice tool. She has 1.2k mana, and a full wave brings her to about 1.1k, by the time the next wave comes she's nearly full again. Her Q mana cost is only 20 mana. Just think about that. No other champion has that fast and easy waveclear. Try it yourself, bring her to level 18, give her 6 items(one being boots obviously) and just Q waves with trinity and titanic. You won't need to last hit a thing.

Late game yes. We’re talking early. Mana costs are an afterthought for almost everyone late game.

I've been talking late game, and no, they're not, unless you build mana. Trinity Force barely gives you anything and like I said, GP and other champions use mana like crazy, Irelia clears an entire wave with 6 Qs and still has enough mana to do it 11 more times.

...who? GP has late game mana issues? What?

You’re telling me 6 item level 18 GP legitimately has mana issues? Real?

What's making him run out of mana? The only ability he really casts multiple times is his E, which has no mana cost. Q and W are used in combat only and his Ultimate has a long cool down to negate it's high cost.

I suppose if they were ONLY clearing waves, a GP could do the same, but a GP would be sacrificing combat abilities to clear waves, Irelia wouldn't. You can't use 2 barrels to clear a wave, and then have those 2 barrels to fight your enemy too, barrels can also be denied. Either way, GP's runs out of mana far more quickly than an Irelia. An Irelia is going to use FAR more abilities to run oom before a GP will. FAAAAAAAR more. Also an Irelia's abilities are more situationally dependant, whereas GP's are generally for use whenever he wants. If you're low on health you'll use your W regardless. If you're only missing about 1/4th of your health, and no one's around, you'll still use W. His Q costs more, his ult will be fired whenever he sees someone with low health. So yes, a GP will run out of mana much more often than an Irelia will, who will only use her Q to autopush waves, and her highest cost abilities will only likely be used in teamfights.

Most if not all champions have no trouble with mana late game, why should irelia be an exception for this?

Which is why many people play Fiora with Manaflow Band, at least when you're taking Grasp as a keystone.

Magaes without mana issues, in the early game, farm safely with 0 reprasial and easily hit their mid / late game powerspikes unless they heavily misplay / the bulk of the enemy team dedicates itself to fucking them up.

They also shove with ease, heavily mitigate aggression around the map via clearing waves with impunity.

Fighters without mana issues are still in danger. They're melee; so stepping forwards to farm always comes with the very real risk of the enemy laner hurting them. Especially if said laner is ranged. It usually doesn't even take much out of a jungler's time - let alone the team's time - to put them in the ground early on. They also don't clear waves with impunity; they put themselves in an area where they can be engaged on / hurt when doing so.

There also aren't many / any fighters who don't have mana gating them early on.

Irelia actually goes oom pretty quick, that's why she's using Corrupting Potion (something which you knowingly decided to omit from your post).

Downvoted and moving on.

Maybe you should read that I'm not talking about early game at all, and I'm talking specifically about late game instead of such, where she won't even have a corrupting potion, also mentioned I've tested it myself. You can clearly see from my post I'm not talking about any point in which she would have needed corrupting pot, assuming you actually read it. Other non-mana buying champions run out of mana extremely quickly, whereas Irelia can clear waves infinitely, because her mana regens before the next wave even comes. and she doesn't have mana costs that matter in the late game, unlike others.

Why should a fighter champion be gated by mana? That's not their inherent weakness. You're also full of bullshit. If Irelia spams Q on waves, she will oom. You've obviously never played the champion so I suggest you sit down and disconnect your keyboard.

Have you actually played her? She goes oom pretty quickly, even with Triforce.

I think they should nerf mana across the board like they did to mages

Dont wanna nerf irelia but at least make them think about mana every now and then

I am not sure that would be the right move. A lot of ADCs run out of mana extremely fast. GP and other champions do as well. The only one I don't see run out of mana much is Irelia. Fiora might not lose as much as others but she still loses a decent bit, and maybe she could afford to have that reduced as well, but Irelia just doesn't ever seem to be low on it, and 20 is a very small number for an attack that deals so much damage.

People don't take Manaflow Band on Fiora without a reason. She's gonna be sad very often without it if she doesn't build anything with mana. Which she often doesn't.

Z3Sleeper1 votes

There’s far more mana users that guzzle mana than there are those who have minor mana consumption.

ADCs, Tanks and Mages in particular eat their mana fast as hell.

Sharpest glasses2 votes

Honestly... Its same for most champs despite a few like Ezreal MonkeyKing Ryze

Wukong? The guy has a total of like 2 rotations before he has to back. It’s part of why he sucks as a laner right now.

If it weren’t for the massive mana regen jg items grant he’d only be able to clear 2 camps before having to back.

Nyarlathοtep2 votes

Dunno. A lot of fighters have little to no mana problems for no reason at all.

Sexy Jack Rabbit2 votes

Irelia does have mana issues. It's why you take Corrupting Pot early.

PowerSlave9931 votes

I remember when old Irelia needed mana so badly. Even at 18 level she wasted mana like she was a mage lol.

I miss those days.

Minimac20001 votes

Basically it's so she can't spam her abilities (as much) early and that weakens her in the early game a bit and forces her into corrupting pot, so she can't go d shield and free wait to scale. It also probably has something to do with her being forced into triforce, which is less desirable on manaless champs

Sunbae Irelia1 votes

Irelia has some mana issues in lane. Missing e, using w, or spamming q on waves early on will drain your mana really quickly, but I suppose you do have a point in regards to the later stages of the game.

StDouchebag1 votes
  • Irelia my most played champ by far, I’m playing safe and using q to get every minion early game so you will run out of mana doing that and also trying to maybe get a kill, that’s why I start item 2033, and yeah after that no mana problems to speak of, maybe if you’re wrecking the game and you don’t back till you have 4K gold.
