Is There A Way I Can Make Warwicks Q Less Of A Pain In The Ass To Use?

From what I understand, its current functionality is:

  1. Player presses Q, nothing happens yet.
  2. Game waits and checks if the player either tapped or held Q.
  3. Warwick either does a simple dash if Q was tapped, or does the dash and swings around if Q was held.

It's the delay between steps 1 and 3 that makes the ability so awkward to use, because there's this downtime between the input and the effects that just shouldn't exist. How it should go is the following:

  1. Player presses Q, Warwick dashes to the target and bites them.
  2. Warwick latches onto his target until Q is released.
  3. If Q was held for long enough (should be a very short delay), Warwick swings around his target.

Boom, no delay to the main effect that's common to both inputs, and since Warwick is supposed to latch onto his target while Q is held down anyway, there would be no major clunkiness to holding down Q either.

i would rather have it like yasuo's e-q combo. you press q as ww,he dashes on the enemy you press double q he does the swing thing but the double q has to be like fast like yasuo's e-q generaly i despise holding down buttons because it just slows the player down in case he changes his mind and wants to use another spell.

yeah double tap would feel more responsive than a press and hold.

Combine all this with the instinct to input buffer when it's out of range and you basically double the clunkiness since you don't know if it's actually going to go off or how long it thinks you've been holding it.

Well no, the point is that it would still either release or swing depending on whether you're pressing or holding Q, it's just that Warwick would always do the thing he does in either case, which is to dash to his target and bite them. Detecting whether you're still holding Q while dashing, rather than while buffering before then, would induce no significant delay if your intent is to swing around your target too, and would cause no problems if you just tapped it.

Changes nothing, cause then you'd have to still have the game check for whether Q was held.

That's not true, because the dash itself would always be instant, rather than delayed on Q hold as it currently is. Instead of Q > pause > dash + swing, it would be Q > dash > swing, with little to no delay in-between in either case.

Not super related, but is there a way to make it less of a pain in the ass to play against?

It's scalings are insane, it applies his passive onhit, and it just does a shit ton of damage with very low cooldown early - mid game, making Warwick's ganks incredibly devastating even before he activates his Fear.

statelesskiller2 votes

i mean. old ww q basically did the same amount of damage as long as we dont count spell blade or bork procs

Old Warwick couldn't run up to you under tower and smack you for 400 damage in autos and Q's at lvl fucking 5 because he didn't have W movespeed. It also had a scaling cooldown (NO IDEA why that got changed, especially because mana cost also went down).

So if you got hit by it early game, it meant that you knew you could fight him. Now... Warwick runs in at 600 movespeed from fog of war, slaps you, Q's, slaps you again, slaps you a third time because you're now below 20% health and he gets tripled attack speed, and you die. Or maybe you don't, in which case he fears you and slaps you some more.

whats also pretty dirty is that bork and spell blade procs get converted to magic damage. thats alot of fucking magic damage that early on

Well, I don't think he'd have Sheen or Bork that early on, either.

GelsominoKiller7 votes

It is also his only damaging spell pre 6, aside from passive bonus on hit.

It deals a good amount of damage for the whole game, but it doesn't really scale.

Alright, so I wasn't the only one who tried using it for like 5 minutes and had no clue how to?

BlackBattler3 votes

Press/release to bite, hold down to slide across and follow. What's the problem?

Rainfall1 votes

why is it like smartcast?

nice table5 votes

i don't see how it would function without it being like smartcast tbh

SpaghettiVase3 votes

Since his release that's been the only part of his kit hardcore WW mains have complained about, yet riot hasn't changed it. It's sad because many people who wanna play WW will probably never get used to his Q.

Rainfall2 votes

im not realy a hardcore main i just played him today,im an old school player never liked smartcast i used to even complain about karthus having his q like smartcast.

Automated Riven1 votes

Why do you say that? I have friends that were ww mains and they like the new q. It isn't that difficult to get used to unless you don't smart cast.

I feel like whole champion kit is Pain In The Ass to use. Let me explain.

-His Q is supposed to when held let you follow target and jump behind it,when just pressed and released quickly its just bite without following but in practice its so hard to pull off without any reason but just being pain in the ass,if you keep your Q pressed before being in range with your target nothing will happen you have to start pressing Q when you get near the target range of your Q and its so clunky and feels terrible sometimes work sometimes doesent. Sometimes it follows target sometimes just bites it almost feels like it happens random at times which is terrible

-His W passive works as intended but is pain in the ass and feels sooo clunky. It is giving you attack speed buff when your target is below 50% and if you are swiching target you can never get used to how it jumps from fast attacking to slow attacking its just terrible, try farming wave of minions or monsters in jungle and as soon as monster gets low he starts to attack faster and when you switch target he slows down, trust me its just feels so bad,and opposite of satisfying. The other part of his W is it can track targets that are low and gets out of combat MS,its buggy and doesent register all low targets just some and pathing is bugged sometimes ugh i cant even describe this properly

-His ult,oh well it would be good to use if its hitbox wasnt thin like a needle. You can literally miss the target if you ulti on top of them. UGH! I actually liked the old Warwick better even tho he was so simple and stupid to play but his skills worked flawlessly.

Corundrom5 votes

what are you talking about his ult being thin as a needle and missing targets if you ult on top of them? i fucking hit people that are BEHIND me sometimes, its so annoying

Mast3rShake2 votes

Yeah, sometimes I try and use it as an escape and I am suddenly attacking someone who was behind me!

6Sfool3 votes

I have no idea why he's considered a beginner champion. I main Yorick Jungle, who arguably has the toughest micro of any jungle champ, and I can 1v3 with him easier than I can use Q properly with Warwick.

Jungle Brungus3 votes

Half the comments "durr you just Q duh!" He's talking about the clunky input delay on Q that occurs when the game is deciding if youre holding Q down or not. But no, you look like a genius jumping on someone's thread with your irrelevant and stupid comments (: keep it up! You sure told him (: you're not delusional at all (:

Warpes2 votes

wat

what part about it is even a pain in the ass? it's so freaking stupid easy to use its not even funny

Itsbeghdev4 votes

how follow/not follow is implemented, probably also its range is a bit shorter than one might expect

PB4UAME3 votes

Added to that, Q pressing and holding only matters when you're actually in Q range, and if you do want to hold it down, it actually delays the dash itself until it has done the check to make sure that you're holding it down, then it casts-- but, sometimes if you started to hold Q, then accidentally release Q before this check finishes, you're move order will cancel, you won't dash, and you just stand there, not even just biting and not following through, but literally just stopping in place.

Divewing1 votes

That's typically how title's work, friend...

Just make the Q 2-click based.

First press will jump to the target. Once within the certain close range of the target and/or upon arrival on the target, there will be a short period of time in which Q will display a different icon for say, approx 0.5 seconds (number changeable), and if Q is pressed again during this period, he swings around the target. Q goes on CD after.

Ta-daa, clunkiness fixed. Took me 10 seconds. Easy.

Joseph Gladstone2 votes

What bothers me even more about Warwick is his W. It's so god damn clunky it's not even funny.

The movespeed buff only activates half the time when I'm walking along a blood trail. What normally happens is if i turn around in the complete opposite direction of the blood trail while I was previously walking along the blood trail, I will receive the movespeed buff for about half a second then it goes away, rinse and repeat.

His running animations are very clunky, I keep getting bugged running animations.

I really love the new Warwick, but he is really clunky. I hope he gets fixed soon.

Smack the button a lot of times really quick lol

If you are going to complain about Warwick's Q, have a discussion about why you think its an issue. There is no reason for any Rioter to give you the time of day because you are not asking for a discussion.

HalcyonDweller5 votes

I think you misunderstood them, they are asking what they can do to use it more easily.

That is not the same as asking what Riot can do to make it easier to use.

DeadUnborn1 votes

a lot of people complain so there most be some merit, but IMO except for like the first 3 times I used ww's new Q I never had trouble using it: Light tap, you bite Hold, you dash

I do play with target indicators on while having everything set to quickcast, so maybe that has soemthing to do with it tho

Itsbeghdev1 votes

doesn't help me lol

I have no problems with it.
