Somebody explain to this person that Kassadin's Q is not a silence, but a disrupt ability.

Cräfty··2 votes·2,645 views

I made a thread about TFT and some of its items. In there I mentioned that there are 6 champs with silence out of the 145 in league (not counting Rumble's self silence). But there was this guy downvoting the thread and everything I write because he's so convinced that Kassadin is the the 7th champ that has a silence on his Q.

Here is the thread: . Just ignore the actual thread an read through his comments. Even when confronted with absolute proofs and League wiki facts, they still embarrass themselves!

Enjoy!

Ok, maybe trying to humiliate this guy is a bit too much, even though he deserves it for calling me EU trash because he was wrong and had no actual arguments at all. So, I apologize for this. I'll delete that thread and repost it, and hopefully, this time, people will actually focus on the thread itself, rather then whether there are 6 or 7 champions with silence.

Let me just try to convince people that kassadin's Q (and Viktor's R, for that matter) are not silence abilities.

EDIT: Patch 4.4, March 18th, 2014:

Null Sphere

  • No longer silences, but will still interrupt channels and charges.
  • Base damage changed to 80 / 105 / 130 / 155 / 180 from 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200.
  • NEW EFFECT: Kassadin gains a 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+ 30% AP) magic shield for 1.5 seconds.

2nd EDIT: Patch 4.17, September 25th, 2014:

Chaos Storm

  • No longer silences on impact, but will still interrupt channels.

Exactly like stated in the patch notes for kassadin's Q, Viktor R does not silence.

Nowhere does it mention a small silence of 0.1 sec, or whatever that is. You think Riot will forget to mention such an important detail?! I don't think so, even for how bad they can be, they won't forget such a crucial detail.

Also, this 0.1 sec silence, some of you are talking about, is not even mentioned in the trivia section of kassadin's wiki page, or on his Q description on the wiki, for that matter. Same thing for Viktor's trivia page and his R.

TL;DR: This 0.1 sec silence is just a myth or a misinterpretation of the " silenced " you see pop up very briefly on your champ when hit by kassadin's Q (for example), if he interrupted your channel or charge! People need to understand that it is just a visual indication so that the player, who just got disrupted, gets the information that his ability just got interrupted!

  • Remember: " SILENCED " has less letters and more visually understandable than " INTERRUPTED ". Also, it fits better on top of the HP bar. That's why they kept it as a visual indicator for interruptions.

3rd EDIT:

  • FYI, debuffs on enemies only shows below the character portrait, in the top left corner of the screen, when you're targeting them. In the same way, debuffs on YOU are only shown on top of your character portrait (where your spells are). What you see on top of the HP bar of champions, however, is called state indicators. They're there to just indicate what just happened to the champion.

  • The problem is that Riot is using the " silenced " indicator as a way to tell people that they just got interrupted. And since the same indicator is also used when champs are really silenced (fiddle's E, for example) even before they cast anything, it makes people confused on what is considered a silence.

  • But that problem is quickly solved if people actually cared to read the patch notes, at least. Let alone read the league wiki for more details. But nope, they're just gonna interpret that interrupt = silence and the info will get stuck in their head as an undeniable fact, when in reality, it's just their brain interpreting things the wrong way and trying to make sense of it all.

4th EDIT: People still seem to misunderstand how CC is coded into the game so:

Now, Camille also uses disrupt in her R. Wouldn't the simple fact that Camille, Kassadin and Viktor are all in the same disrupt section, means that all of them do the exact same thing with the disrupt mechanic?!

  • FYI, when a mechanic is programmed and implemented into league (or any video game in which multiple NPCs use the same exact mechanic), it works the exact same way for all champions that utilize the said mechanic. A stun from Renekton works the same way as a stun from Anivia (both disables your movement and abilities). A root from Morgana is the same as a root from Neeko or Zyra (both disable your movement but allows you to cast and attack). What I mean is that they have the same characteristics. They may look different because of the spell animations, but the core mechanic and the programming behind the mechanic is exactly 100% the same. For the duration and target limitations, that's coded into the champion's spell, not the CC mechanic itself.

  • Riot does not program CC mechanics for every champion individually, but it codes the mechanic 1st separately, then make the champions draw from the mechanic's code to utilize it. Thus, there are no 6 different silences coded in each of the 6 champions that uses it, there is only 1 silence that exists in league and those 6 champions (7 if you count Rumble self silence, when overheated) draw the effect from the code of that one silence coded into the game.

  • In the same way, a disrupt from Camille is the same as a disrupt from Kassadin and Viktor. There is no reason, at all, for it to work differently between them since the mechanic of disrupt is only coded once into the game and is utilized by all 3 of them. So, there can't be a Kassadin's Q and Viktor's R that silence while Camille, who uses the same mechanic, doesn't silence. It is impossible!

If after all these proofs and reliable infos from the League wiki and Riot's patch notes themselves, you still think that kassadin's Q and Viktor's R are silences.. well, I can't help you!

-> It's really funny how I'm always providing proof after proof, from several sources, but, none of you guys, who believe that these abilities are silences, have provided any tangible proof from any reliable source yet. Hmmm, I wonder why?! xD

Was it necessary to make a thread about some random guy in one of your other threads? For what it's worth, Kassadin Q is an extremely short duration silence as it's the easiest way to code an interrupt. You're unable to cast any other abilities for something like .1s

Oh yes! I wanna see him humiliated so he learns to check his facts first, before calling me an EU trash.

in retrospective, maybe not. But he sure as hell deserves it for calling me that.

You are incorrect, good sir. The League wiki disapprove of your point: " A unit that is disrupted has their channeled and charged abilities interrupted. Unlike Silence, the unit can still cast abilities. "

If there was a 0.1 sec silence it would have certainly been added to the description of Disrupt. Not to mention that in game, when a kassadin Qs you or a Viktor first cast his R on you, you're disrupted only if you were channeling or charging an ability. If not, you're free to cast whatever spell you want immediately, with zero delay!

I'm curious, where did you get the information of the 0.1 sec silence. Was it just an effort from you to try and make sense of it all?! Or was it a real info you got from a real approved and reliable source?!

Log in a custom game, hit someone with Kassadin's Q. The word "SILENCED" will appear above their head for an extremely short time. You're wrong and arguing won't solve anything.

This is most likely kept in place so his joke makes sense. Kassadin q and Viktor r will never prevent an ability cast (unlike blitz r that will), meaning they are not silences.

Joke for reference - "I tried to silence my mother once. Boy, did I regret that."

No, it's because it IS coded as a silence, albeit a very short one. Riot wouldn't confuse the player as of what kind of CC they've been hit by for the sake of a joke.

nm10103 votes

Feel free to try it yourself. The effect doesn't prevent spell casts. I have found plenty of people claiming it does online, but a quick test earlier showed the effect didn't stop my spells. My second best guess is they just copy and pasted the code before removing the actual "prevents spell casting" part of the "silence". This would leave an identical cc marker to silence that just doesn't actually prevent spells.

Eedat2 votes

Dude. It's coded as a silence. It's a 0.01 second silence, not 0.1. When you get Q'd by kass the word SILENCED literally appears above your head. Go try it

Cräfty1 votes

Refer to my EDITS on my thread, up above ^.

They lowered the silence duration to 0.01 seconds because it was easier to just change the duration of the already existing silences than remove them and add new code for the dance exact effect

But it is still technically a silence so you are wrong, sorry

Cräfty1 votes

State your source, please!

I provided arguments and proofs from the League wiki and Riot's patch notes themselves. There are even so many videos that clearly shows there is no delay in casting your spells immediately after getting hit by Kassadin's Q and Viktor's R.

What's your proof for what you say?! Where did you get the info that:

They lowered the silence duration to 0.01 seconds because it was easier to just change the duration of the already existing silences than remove them and add new code for the dance exact effect

DETAILS, man! They ARE important. (for anyone who gets this reference)

Eedat1 votes

The message above your head that literally says SILENCED

Cräfty2 votes

You clearly didn't read my thread, otherwise you would know what that message means.

Eedat1 votes

It is not just a visual queue to tell you that you've been interrupted. It doesn't display when camille interrupts you. It only displays on the two champs that had silences. Now why is that? Because they're actually silences

I don't understand why you are this salty about being wrong. Everyone is wrong sometimes

Cräfty2 votes

It doesn't display when camille interrupts you. It only displays on the two champs that had silences. Now why is that? Because they're actually silences

It doesn't show up on Camille for 2 reasons:

  1. Camille simply does not have silence on her R. Obvious!
  2. Camille's target should be notified of the locked area he's in and how long it lasts, thus Riot gave the target an indicator underneath his HP bar that directly countdown the seconds Camille's R lasts, so you don't need to estimate anything while playing. And putting 2 informations at once on the HP bar is bad and clanky, so Riot decided to prioritize to indicate the ultimate duration rather than notifying the target that he got interrupted (if he did), especially that it is more important to know how long am I gonna get trapped in this ult.

Now, you seem to be aware that Camille is placed in the disrupt section of the league wiki (that's why you made the comparison with her in the first place).

Do you understand now?!

nm10102 votes

Yes it says silenced, but you are in no possible way restricted from casting spells, which is the defining characteristic of a silence. That is why it is not an actual silence, but a different form of cc designated a "disrupt" by Riot themselves. Why it still says silenced is anyone's guess. I assumed it was for Kassadin's joke, but it says it for Viktor's ult too. My next best guess is that they just reused the code for silences and deleted the part about being unable to cast spells to save time, but didn't want to make a new indicator and such for it.

Eedat2 votes

It is a 0.01 second silence because silence causes disruption and it was easier to just reduce the silence he already had on his Q to 0.01 seconds instead of removing it and adding new code

nm10101 votes

As someone pointed out below you can just look at your abilities when hit by Kassadin q. There is a lockout indicator for silences, you never get that effect when hit by his q. Ergo, you are never actually silenced.

LordRedStone Nr11 votes

If you cite the wiki without any other information, you lost. Kassadins Q is a silence, I know that without playing him.

It IS a very very small silence, so small that doesn't really make a difference if you use it or not. It is coded as a silence, it pops up as a silence. Stop referencing the wiki as the absolute source of everything.

Also, why are you bringing this up as if it's such an important thing, whether it is a silence or not does not matter, since it is a really small one nonetheless.

Cräfty1 votes

First of all, those edits are not from the wiki but the patch notes themselves (that Riot published itself).

Secondly, you've yet to provide any proof of what you, and so many other people are saying, about this small silence. Tell me, good sir: What is this amazing and reliable source, that you , and all these people, have access to and I don't, that states this info about the 0.1 sec silence (or whatever small the duration is) being the way interruption works in League of legends?! Because I can't find this info anywhere on the internet, in any reliable sources.

First of all, don't insult people, just like they don't insult you.

Now, I've played a bit of Kassadin myself recently and have played against him many times, and as far as I remember, I couldn't cast abilities right after I was Q'ed.

That's the problem, right here. You're trying to use fazed memories and your own impressions and interpretations as an argument.

Dude, the solution is simple. Just hop into a custom game, right now, against a kassadin, let him Q you and don't cast any channeled or chargeable spells, so you don't get interrupted, of course. Then see for yourself if you can cast spells immediately after getting hit by the Q projectile. Heck, you can even see it in so many videos on youtube: the champs Q'd by kassadin have no delay on their ability casts whatsoever!

Riot sometimes doesn't include everything they've changed in their patch notes. Or that's at least what I've heard.

I know its sarcastic. And I already said I don't care about it. But you may encounter that might be bothered from this. If I wanted to be sarcastic, I don't think I'd say anything similar to that, especially on the Internet where everything can explode into a flame war within seconds.

your whole argumentation falls off, since it's all based on personal biased interpretations and not actual facts from reliable sources.

Now, am I being unfair to you, or insulting to you, for saying this? No. It's just logic and how argumentation works.

If you look at the video on the League of Legends Wiki (around 3 seconds), there's even a debuff for the silence that you can see if you pause the video. There's no such thing as an 'interrupt' debuff. There's no such thing. A true interrupt would just interrupt a channeled ability; why would there be any lingering effect? The only true interrupt effect seems to be on Camille.

Just because it isn't mentioned doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Riddle me this, then. If the Wiki 100% accurate and spot on, then explain Viktor's page on his ultimate. https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Viktor

His ultimate description says he silences for 0.5s, yet on the Crowd Control page (https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Types_of_Crowd_Control#Disrupt), it says he has a disrupt and not a silence. If you want to live and die by the Wiki, I think you're already dead; you just haven't caught up yet.

Sorry I didn't get a screenshot of the mistake, but there's a reason I bring it up. It's not 100% accurate. For all we know, you could have been the one to edit it.

Your edits also don't make my point any less valid; the video on the Wiki shows a silence debuff. Why would that exist if the Q didn't silence and was only interrupting something? Do you think Riot would miss out on this very important detail?

Unless you provide first hand evidence of a Kassadin Q'ing you and you show that you are not locked out of your abilities for a brief period, we have nothing to discuss here. You care about this so much (although you stated why in your OP, I don't understand the big deal) that I would expect you to provide primary evidence for your claim.

Edit: Look, you don't even have to find proof. I found it for you - look at this video: https://youtu.be/yOUKO3RNAd4?t=130

Despite Yasuo getting silenced, his spells are still 'available' according to the interface (a lot more noticeable at 0.25x speed). There, that wasn't so hard was it? The problem here isn't the argument itself, but rather your ability to provide 'proof' using a Wiki is super unreliable. Plus, your OP's goal is to embarass someone which is possibly why not a lot of people are willing to support your argument.

nm10101 votes

There was no edit, you were looking at his prerework page.

https://i.gyazo.com/2196bead037c078f06c3c1e161fdb1f8.png

When Viktor was reworked they specifically designated that his ult no longer silenced and instead interrupted channels.

I did this earlier, have Kass q you as Cass while you mash e. I only messed with it for a few minutes, but my e's never got delayed. Even while the "silenced" tag was above my character.

Deez Crits1 votes

Do you have an edit history? A screenshot of an edit history would prove your claim more than a screenshot of that particular page.

It's not about whether there was a change made to the ult; it's about whether or not the people contributing to the Wiki updated his spell descriptions.

P.s. Yeah, I provided proof that Kassadin doesn't actually silence; I found a video which is ALL the OP needed to do.

Cräfty1 votes

Sorry I didn't get a screenshot of the mistake, but there's a reason I bring it up. It's not 100% accurate. For all we know, you could have been the one to edit it.

Hahaha, that's a good one xD. A new level of despair has been reach! You know you're out of options and arguments when you start accusing others.

Your edits also don't make my point any less valid; the video on the Wiki shows a silence debuff.

I have a better idea. YOU go into a game against a kassadin, whether it's custom or a normal game, and test it out for yourself. I guarantee you that if kassadin Qs you , you're not locked out of using your spells for a brief delay and you actually can cast spells (besides the one that got interrupted, if it did) immediately after the Q projectile hits you.

Good luck!

Deez Crits1 votes

That's not an intelligent way to provide evidence for a claim. I've already beat you at supporting your own argument and it took me less than 5 minutes to do so in case you didn't see my edit afterwards.

I don't think it's that people don't read patch notes; I think it's the fact that they think Riot's ability to implement new mechanics is rather limited so they assume that they have a poor man's way of coding things (i.e. interrupts are realistically micro silences, which is what most people assume here). There's a reason why 'spaghetti code' is a thing and how 9.14, on release, was quite a cluster of a mess.

Cräfty1 votes

I just saw your edit.

Yeah, sure, the video proves my point and thank you for that, but... a video on its own is not proof enough in this matter, since it's still subject to subjective interpretations from people. That's why I avoided posting a video, and rather focused on posting League wiki facts and Riot patch notes, which are far more reliable and less subject to personal interpretations, since there is nothing to argue here.

I mean, some people would use the same video you posted in your edit to claim something like " the delay is so short that you didn't notice it and you can't feel it when playing. But it exists! " because they're so biased by their subjective point of vue and so stubborn that they refuse to admit that the said short silence doesn't even exists in the first place. It's just their own brain trying to interpret things they, otherwise, don't understand.

nm10102 votes

You are correct, Kassadin's q is programmed the same way as Viktor R (as a disrupt, not a silence). The only reason I think "silenced" pops up when Kass q's you is so his joke still makes sense.

Shieda Kayn2 votes

It is technically a silence. It lasts for an incredibly short time which is why it's not mentioned as one in the tooltip, because it's not meant to be a silence to stop enemies from casting abilities, but a silence meant to interrupt channels. Take the L, peace.

EDIT: Patch 4.4, March 18th, 2014:

  • No longer silences, but will still interrupt channels and charges.
  • Base damage changed to 80 / 105 / 130 / 155 / 180 from 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200.
  • NEW EFFECT: Kassadin gains a 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+ 30% AP) magic shield for 1.5 seconds.

TL;DR: This 0.1 sec silence is just a myth or a misinterpretation of the " silenced " you see pop up very briefly on your champ when hit by kassadin's Q (for example), if he interrupted your channel or charge! People needs to understand that it is just be a visual indication so that the player, who just got disrupted, gets the information that his ability just got interrupted!

Okay, then if we take the website as the source, then why is he here?

The answer is simple: the page was not updated. Probably because the page is less visited or the devs of the wiki just forgot.

He's not mentioned here: https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Types_of_Crowd_Control#Silence

Well, tbh it says "SILENCED" when you use it on your opponent not "INTERRUPTED". Would be weird if it wasn't actually a silence, then Riot should bugfix it. It's mostly semantics tho and have very little practical application either way.

All you just said is just a personal interpretation of what it should be, and not arguments about what it actually is.

You're welcome to provide any actual proof, from any reliable source, of it being a real silence (no matter how small the duration is) that actually prevents you from casting spells, even if cast on a target that is not channeling or charging any spells.

Yea, but it doesn't really matter what it is since it's only 0,1 sec. Not being able to use abilities for 0,1 sec won't make any practical difference.
