I'm confused. What is causing people to lose games again?

In the past week i've been told:

  • Jungle decides the game
  • ADC decides the game
  • Worst player decides the game
  • Bot lane decides the game

Which one is it? Gotta at least keep the story straight sheesh

E. A dynamic mixture of these primary factors.

Jungle: These people have the map awareness of Ray Charles.

ADC: These people try to 1 v 1 the fed ADC, don't know how to focus correct targets in team fights, or are part of the problem as to why the enemy ADC is so strong.

Worst Player: As it stands right now 1 person losing can cause the game to become heavily one sided. This is only if said player(s) continue to play badly and refuse to try and play better.

Bot Lane: A lot of people are autofilled into this lane. It will always be heavily one sided unless the players are of similar skill. Ganks can sway the outcome of the lane, but that just means it wasn't the bot lane to begin with unless they just fall victim to every gank through poor play.

I have a funny story about this. I was doung kinda meh (3/5/12) on Sivir and no matter the team foght everyone would just jump on me while they forgot about the 13/2/7 Swain..

All of the others are symptoms of worst player.

The game is just a bit too snowbally and high-damage currently.

Draehl2 votes

This. Damage levels are so high, making it so getting even slightly fed is WAY more important than actually being able to mechanically outplay your opponent. This is especially true as a support player. I'd much rather have a stagnant game or tank meta where neither side is fed, at least I feel like I have a little agency in what happens.

Executioner1 votes

You dont want a tank meta. That's even better for ADC. Also I have yet to feel like the damage in the game is to high.

Yeah...it's all of these. In case you haven't noticed, any of these individuals sucking can drag the whole game down for everyone.

Lanes have nothing to do with it. Riots MMR system and that 1 bad player in any lane loses the game.

The game is total shit right now. Players are so fed up more and more are just trolling because who cares they know they cant climb out of the shit pile and so troll because its the only "fun" they can have.

I climbed from B3-S2 and in the span of a week end dropped to S5 because I cant get a team that has a CLUE how to play Ranked.

If you play like the pros you spend most of your time waiting for the Dodge timer to run out. Fine of you do nothing but play LOL 9-12 hours a day. But when you have maybe 1-2 hours of free time dodging means you might as well go play something else.

this isnt true i was playing a cait game yesterday where i had 5 kills by 20 min but it doesnt help that my team was down about 6-18 scoreline. So as good as the 5 kills on the adc is its hard to outscale 3 people who are fed and just blow up the rest of your team

Lord of Math3 votes

Well to be fair, bot lane and adc are basically the same, and botlane statistically has the most chance of having the worst player on the team, and people just blame the jungler for not ganking bot as much as he other one. But really it is pretty balanced as to which ones have the most impact.

Dysnomia1 votes

I never ever call for ganks when on bot. When we are being camped by their jungler or mid, or both of them - it is another story. As the matter of fact, i never call for ganks wherever i am.

I will usuually only call for ganks when I think that we can get a kill without using our summoner spells.

I dont understand all the posts about matchmaking or comments downing matchmaking.

Even though op.gg MMR is not official it is the only thing i know of where i can get a sense of what my MMR is. And when I look at the people im matched with on my team and the enemy team the MMR's are similar.

One team has to have the higher average which is what determines which side of the map your team will be on.

I can see why someone who doesnt play ranked might think the matchmaking is broken when they are Bronze playing against Silver and Golds or Silver against plats. But that only happens because the normal game MMR is seperate from the ranked game MMR. So if you have a higher ranked player playing a normal game they are matched off their normal game MMR which might not be as high simply because they either rarely play normals or they might just play around when they do play normals.

The only time i seen a game that looked anywhere near overly lopsided was if it was very high elo players where there are less of them playing to be matched.

I agree mmr is always close in games but mmr doesn't say much about a player. These players could be on tilt, just playing for fun at the moment, trying out a new role they aren't good at. And nothing holds them accountable for this if you carry them. Next game they will be making it hard for someone else. In addition, who cares if they want to try a new role? We all do, but it shouldn't matter as much. With a different system if they try any weird stuff it is them who will be taking the majority hit. As well it should be.

VvVVvV1 votes

Yeah the mmr is the only way you can match people no matter if they are losing because they are "playing for fun." It is impossible to have a system that can guess a persons skill level. Few weeks ago I was 1 win away from Silver 2 promo games......i hit a slump. I play support or control mages like Ziggs or Zyra if im mid. Not exactly built to carry a struggling team. So even if i did good and led team in damage if the team struggles we still lose. So right now even at Silver 5 i have Bronze 2 MMR and im even getting matched with players fresh level 30 who think only kills matter and will willingly dive into the enemy 1v4 just to get 1 kill and call it worth, will sit at 12/17 and say they are carrying because they have the most kills ignoring all the gold they gave the enemy team with their 17 deaths.

But i know its working the way it should so i cant complain.

Who Fed Ru2 votes

Honestly?

I don't even know anymore. There are so many factors that decide the outcome of a game, and many of those just feel random or like you have almost no impact of them. It just happens in too many of my games atm that I sit there at the end and don't even know why I won/lost.

The game feels snowbally and at the same time doesn't. It feels like damage is too high and at the same time it feels like damage is too low. etc etc etc.

All in all you can say that the balance of the game is so fucked atm that I don't even know whats wrong anymore, and I believe that many people feel so, thus nobody knows what actually decides games anymore.

People's ignorance loses it. Lack of knowledge.....

Just recently had to send a photo to Riot Support on how my support Nami doesn't want to throw exhaust even on Olaf, because it wouldn't slow him wtih his R up. She didn't know what else Exhaust does.

She is D3 btw and i was told from Riot that 'there is so much to learn, even for D3'. I guess at D2 people learn how heal/ignite interact.

So yeah, i'm going for that 3rd or 4th excuse.

Since there are people that are down voting, Exhaust lowers the damage dealt as well FYI.

You can't report someone for being bad... that isn't what the report system is for.

inFamous Zion2 votes

Not knowing simple things like what Exhaust does in D3 only means that it's account sharing or elo boosting. It's justified at certain elos.

Supreme Senpai691 votes

Maybe he knew what it did, but didn't want to use it on something that would only give him half the effect of Exhaust? Wrong call, to be sure, but hardly a sign of account sharing.

If you look at his match history and some games he has flash on D and other games he has flash on F. That would be reasonable cause to report someone via support ticket.

But reporting someone because they didn't exhaust the Olaf via player support seems more salty than concerned.

inFamous Zion1 votes

https://imgur.com/a/AOFGA

Yeah because a D3 support says 'how can i exhaust Olaf with ult" How can one tell if he is acc sharing or elo boosted hmmmmm..

Everyone on a team praying he would use it to save his carry but nah, he can't use it, he can't save poor Caitlyn when Olaf get's in her face because it doesn't slow him.

Bot lane decides the game which, by extension, means that a Jungler that camps bot can decide the game.

GripaAviara1 votes

Bot has the highest late game impact. And is normal, hyper carry is there with a babysitter. So jungle can influence that a lot. Then if a player in a balance game feeds a lane, that lane can furthermore increase the pressure bot lane.

The game atm is mostly decided by matchmaking, which is terrible in high silver

Revan Sedai1 votes

Me. Well sometimes it's me, other times it's just matchmaking. I have looked at games after they have ended and realized that if you swapped one player over, the other team wins. I have had supports so bad that I literally couldn't do anything, I don't know if they were auto filled, or it's because I'm in Silver, but when you're playing Janna, standing max shield range behind me isn't how you are suppose to play that champ. I've had more supports than I can count decide that as far behind me as they can reasonably get away with standing is where they should be. Meanwhile the enemy support is moving up and harassing, the enemy ADC is trading, and I may as well be in a 1v2 lane for all the good my support is doing rubbing one out under turret. That or I get the sup that rushes full bore into a Lulu/Lucian comp and flames me when they get instantly blown up. Like, not sure what you wanted me to do, I'm playing Jinx bro, were level 3, that Lucian does more damage than I do, and you're Soraka, there was no winning that, enjoy the walk back. Or the wonderful, we have 4 minion to their 10, seems like a good time to flash in and flay them, try to weave a hook through all these minions who are beating my ass, then wonder why I died so fast. Then I get the spicy GG ADC does no damage. No bro, Minions just wooped that ass, and the enemy ADC helped a bit, again, not really sure what to tell you, I'm not getting involved in your awful decisions.

My favorites though are 2 very recent games I played, when I decided I couldn't handle the support lottery anymore, now granted, I'm not absolving my self of blame here, but when I have a top laner that just straight up abandons top lane because "I can't lane against Illaoi" I literally don't even know what I'm suppose to do. Maybe don't pick Yi top second pick? Maybe don't pick Yi top period? Maybe learn how to walk away from her, I dunno, all of the above? I was Level 5 on WW, got a good early gank, and got first drag after my first back. Dude just straight up abandons his lane, and just says he can't lane against her, so just leaves her to do what ever she wants. I don't remember what the other match-up was, but I very much remember this one.

I guess what I'm trying to say is there is no one thing, sometimes it's because I'm playing like an ape, other times it's because my mid laner is 0/9 at 7 mins, sometimes it's because my top laner has just decided to walk away, sometimes it's because bot lane doesn't know how to play against Zac and he ganks it repeatedly because they haven't figured out that pushing up to the enemy turret on Red side is probably a bad idea. If I had to put a quantifier on it, probably the worst player, because no matter who wins the game, the opposing team always seems to have one player that's made it there mission for the game to try to end world hunger, and at least in that regard, they generally tend to succeed.

Snowman Arc1 votes

Worst player decides the game most of the times. A bad player can simply feed all enemy players and then it becomes a overpowered team of 5 vs an underpowered team of 4.

Now, if somehow teams tend to be of equal strength (nobody feeding hard), then the better jungle will decide the game. The better jungler will identify what needs to be done on the map to win the game. Basically, the jungler is the maestro of the game. Now, most of the time, currently, getting your bottom lane ahead to attempt and take the tower first is a good idea. I mean, it's 2 players there already, so taking the tower is easier. Also, one of them at least is ranged, so they can AA the tower safer and for longer time as well, while they can also do that even through the first 5 minutes of the game, where bot tower doesn't have a shield.

Seeing how a good jungler will get their bot lane ahead, it means that 40% of the team is ahead (60% if the jungler also got some kills bot and some share of the first tower gold). From that poiint on, the advantage that the ADC has (more gold, more range) are enough for the game to be won. They can easily rotate around the map, take towers and go back to other lanes to defend their towers with superior waveclear and just snowball from there.

So yeah, first comes the weakest player, then the jungler, then the snowballed AD

The Minion hunt1 votes

I think jungle has the highest impact in a game early game to early mid game. but it is a team game, all lanes are important.

for example, when my tank top just farms and never groups/or ever engages, then tell me to stop getting caught, its like well since we don't ever engage its kinda a matter of time before they get a pick.

depends on team comps as well, like it u got a tank support and no shields or heal an assassin will be a bigger threat to the adc, meaning it will be harder for such adc to carry.

although after all of this if a lane feeds, its a pain in the ass and can feel like the worst player on the team decides it, but that might also be the best player on the other team so vice versa.

but I feel that top is kinda a weird lane at the moment, I feel like they need to really get ahead to make a difference like the other lanes, since mid, jungle can roam around, and bot does consist of 2 players. not that top cant roam.
