garen ult breaks on gnars hop.

Critmaster Garen··17 votes·1,560 views

once the animation started, the ult should finish and hit the champion, even when he dashes or flashes away or moves out of vision range.

however in my recent game the animation canceled 3 times when gnar used hop to get out of melee range after i got the drop on him. even though i already cast the ability and the animation already started.

that should be fixed. especially considering how frustrating the matchup is in the first place.

edit.: i think its important to note that this didnt just happen on adouble hop that takes him really quite far away. it also happened when he just hopped away the normal distance down the lane.

Garens Ult gets canceled a alot. Not sure what the cause is most of the time.

i havent encountered this bug in quite a while. but it was really anoying. you dont get many windows to kill a gnar in the first place.

in melee form, hes more thanky than you, overloaded with cc and deals stupid damage. in ranged form hes too elusive most of the time. tbh, i dont even know why he has a slow and a movement speed buff, when hes resourcless ranged with an escape.

they seriously need to nerf his mini form and remove that slow and speed buff, if they want to keep his power in melee form. if hes that strong in melee, he should be equally weak at range.

right, getting sidetracked. but whats more to say? its a bug and shouldnt happen. so, just making riot aware that it exists.

the issues with gnar are a different discussion.

Good. Garen is already too strong to begin with.

a) lol.

b) definitely not against gnar.

well, i replied to both of you. and i dont like to double post.

shame on riot for not including multi quotes into the boards. but i guess thats what you get, when you just copy reddit instead of using a proper forum format.

Please enlighten me with how Garen is too strong?

  • His Passive for starters. Leave combat, Heal up. Profit. Never have to leave lane ever except to buy items.

  • His tankiness and ability to still deal shittons of damage at the same time.

  • His lack of a resource bar. Like holy shit... Do I even need to explain this one ? With such a tanky and damage heavy champ having no resource bar to limit his capabilities, he just outlives everyone, tanks forever, deals heavy damage, and can do it all for free ! All he has to worry about are cooldowns, which become no issue after CDR. Without putting tons of effort into taking him down, he just always survives fights and proceeds to curb-stomp you and your team.

I can't believe you need context for this honestly... Lol.

His passive is easily disabled if you hit him just once. Even a healing potion is more effective than his passive, granted his passive will outlast a healing potion if you let it keep going.

His tankiness is due to his W, which is Courage, gives a constant passive of 20% bonus of your current armor and magic resistance. Garen reduces incoming damage by 30% and gains 30% crowd control reduction for a few seconds when activated, but during his cooldown, he has neither, thus leaving him with only two abilities to use for damage. His Q and E are both meant to be used in combo unison as an anti-mage champion, which he tears through with his follow-up spin, but is naturally weaker against other tanks unless he gets the black cleaver, which helps a bit.

No, he isn't a damage heavy champ. There are plenty of champions out there that can dish out hell of a lot more damage than Garen (mainly ADCs of course), and in fact, there are plenty out there that can shred right through his tankiness (armor pen, dur). CDR is not worth taking on Garen at all, since it minimizes his cooldowns to such a small degree, that its practically wasting gold.

If you have such a difficult time taking him down, just remember this. He is weak early game, and gradually scales as late game comes along.

As far as I know his early game is very strong and his late game is a damage-sponge. O.o Am I wrong?

Garen is strong as fuck early game, lol. His early to mid game damage and tankiness are amazing in lane.

His damage falls off late, but his tankiness never does.

he also has 0 ranged abilities or hard gap closers. he literally has to walk up to you with a mediocre speed buff if he wants to trade with you. (35% movement speed, where similar champs like shyvana get to more than 50%). even most relatively low mobility champions have some form of ranged ability to harass. olaf can throw axes for example. trundle can throw a pillar into your face and block off your escape route when he wants to fight you. rumble has 2 shots on his e that allow him to chase or disengage. not to mention that his flamethrower has quite a bit of range in the first place, ina ddition to his speed boost on his w.

hes resourceless, but his base cooldowns are pretty long to compensate. and his damage is entirely dependent on his cooldowns. it drastically drops off after he cast his spin.

mana champs have no issue with mana, after they got tear or other ap items that have mana attached. its just a different stat they have to invest into. garen needs cdr. mana champs have lower base cooldowns and need mana instead. both can spam their abilities relatively well by lategame.

basically everythign garen does only happens in melee range. combined with his low mobility this makes him very susceptable to kiting. hes the same type of champion as renekton or riven, only more tanky, because he has to walk up to you instead of having dashes. and then he somehow has to keep you in melee range, because he doesnt have a stun or knockup like those guys.

oh, and his passive is barely noticable throughout the lane phase. come level 16, its pretty much the only thing that sets him apart. other champs have in combat sustain built into their kits (renekton q) or items with lifesteal, which is a terrible stat for garen.

a vamp scepter already beats his passive in lane in regards to sustain.
