A feeding Veigar with little to no income manages to land two out of four of his abilities...

...and one-shots me.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to no longer be one-shot by Veigars that don't have the items it takes for any other champion to one-shot me with only 2 abilities?

Step 1: Build MR items.

Step 2: Pray to something that he doesn't eventually gain enough gold for MP.

If he lands 2 of his 4 abilities, and kills you, that's not a one shot. Mainly because Veigar actually takes a decent amount of aim and practice to manage to kill someone, since 3/4th of his kit is skill shots.

Idk how stunning you then pressing two buttons is "skill"

His stun isn't targeted, and is avoidable if you don't position yourself poorly.

Rank doesn't matter when it comes to knowing how to not get caught out and beat to death by a Veigar.

If that's true regarding rank, why are you somehow incapable of playing against a Veigar?

?_? are you ok? I'm obviously not op

Only basic game knowledge is required to avoid Veigar.

The Highest Noon1 votes

Veigar feeds Veiger isn't allowed to farm Veigir isn't playing well at all Veigor lands a lucky shot Veigur presses R and you die

?_? I don't see what you're getting at.

Oleandervine4 votes

If you've dominated a Veigar, and he's not been able to farm, you're fucking up colossally. If he's not able to farm, he's not getting AP from minions. If you're dodging his skill shots, he's not getting AP from champion hits. If you DO get caught, and he pokes you down hard, you of course WILL die to his R, which is an execute. You will die to literally any champion who pokes you down and finishes you off with their execute ability, like Garen, Evelynn, Urgot, whoever. Veigar is not special in this case.

Step 3: Actually dodge his abilities.

One is a skillshot, one is a delayed AOE, and the other is a stunning field with a large gap in the center. His only point and click ability doesn't have enough base power on it's own to one shot you, the only way that'll happen is if you're low health near him.

Veigar is like Nasus, his score doesn't matter as long as he farms efficiently and stacks up. He's meant to be a threat mid-late game, which is why you focus him or save your defensive options for him.

Cant Dodge when you're stunned

Hotarµ7 votes

Yes, that is generally how most CC works.

Show me one champion who doesn't punish you if they land hard CC on you. I'll wait.

His cage has immense counterplay that any champion can capitalize on, especially given the fact that plenty of champions have blink abilities and flash.

Edit: made this comment 2 hours ago, still waiting

nooperton4 votes

So if he hits you with 2/4 abilities and one of them is a stun he insta killed you with only 1 damaging ability? Highly doubt it, and it's not that hard to avoid the stun and the abilities while in his prison.

Saezio2 votes

If you dodged, why u stunned?

The Highest Noon2 votes

And THAT is terrible champ design. His most powerful ability has no reliable counterplay. And just so you know, there isn't a single person on this planet who has dodged every skillshot sent to them.

And THAT is terrible champ design. His most powerful ability has no reliable counterplay.

Build MR, stay at relatively high HP (60-70%+ is a safe bet except for extreme cases), and save your defensive abilities (such as Zhonyas' or Heal/Barrier) for when he's near you.

He's a heavy burst mage, that is how you fight heavy burst mages. Same applies for champions like Leblanc, Brand, Ahri, so on and so forth.

And just so you know, there isn't a single person on this planet who has dodged every skillshot sent to them.

1: That should be motivation to improve and get better at understanding specific mechanics (like cast range and cast times)

2: That doesn't change what I said. Just because one might mess up when juking doesn't mean the counterplay isn't there, that fault lies with the person who made the mistake, not the champion.

Points to OP

Points to the 2 other points I made and the other one that said "Hey, dodge some of his telegraphed moves" to which your only response was "Not everyone is perfect"

The Highest Noon1 votes

You right, because that's literally the situation. Are you going to tell literally every player "Hey you got one shot because you don't know how to dodge"? Because that's what you're doing. You're telling even someone who could dodge 99.9% of Veigar's abilities that because he didn't dodge one, he's bad.

Oleandervine2 votes

Except if you did dodge everything except for his ultimate, he's not going to kill you. His ultimate is an execute, and is 100% dependent on him landing more damage on his opponents before it can murder them on the spot.

The Highest Noon1 votes

ANd so we return to the OP, where I mention dodging half his kit and being hit by 2 abilities.

Oleandervine1 votes

If he hits you with his E, he can't kill you with his ultimate without damaging you before that. Which means you'd need to be hit by more than 2 abilities.

If he hits you with his Q, you are not incapacitated, and are free to flash and or run out of his range for his W and R. If he's in a spot where he can combo you with Q and R, you are not respecting his damage output.

If he hits you with his W, that's all on you. It has a long as hell cast time, and it's telegraphed. This would mean you sat in the same place long enough for him to land that much damage on you and you're not reacting to what he's doing.

If he for whatever reason has an aneurysm and opens with R and follows with something else, he's not one shotting you.

Veigars range is actually fairly short, with his Q being his longest range spell. There's not really many reasons why you shouldn't be able to play around him for the majority of the lane, unless you're making a lot of mistakes he's capitalizing on. He really thrives in the madness of a team fight, which shouldn't be occurring often in mid lane, so again, it's poor positioning if you're dying constantly to an underfed, bullied Veigar in lane.

The Highest Noon1 votes

Well, I didn't say "constantly", just that it happens. And it can happen, at any point after level what...9? If you just happen to not be paying attention and a comet just happens to fall on you, he presses R and you're dead or at the very least very low. From full. It happens.

Pika Fox4 votes

What are you doing wrong? Youre expecting a late game veigar to deal 0 damage while not respecting his passive or potentially even his CS. K/D/A is not a good metric of how strong someone is or weak they are.

The Highest Noon1 votes

"Late game"

I don't think 10-25 minutes is late game. Then again, I remember someone somewhere saying that they hate that 25 is now considered late game lol

Pika Fox4 votes

If youre getting one combod at 10m then veig isnt feeding.

The Highest Noon1 votes

Unless he is.

There's a lot of "You should he should maybe this maybe that what if but then maybe"

and none of that changes the OP.

Pika Fox3 votes

Except hes not. If youre getting one combod 100-0, hes not feeding. Unless you think 1 death with nearly every CS is feeding, because if veig was legitimately no CS and no kills, he wouldnt be 100-0 you unless he lands everything, blows ignite, and maybe lands a 2nd Q.

The Highest Noon1 votes

So what you're saying is, you didn't actually read the OP.

You're just assuming what you want to further your own opinion about something you didn't experience.

Gotcha.

Pika Fox4 votes

A feeding veigar isnt one shotting you. Period.

The Highest Noon1 votes

A feeding Veigar one-shot me. Period.

Pika Fox1 votes

Were you afk for 10 minutes? Feeding out the ass yourself? Veigar doesnt have the base stats to just 100-0 someone without items at 10 mins, so he had to have either gotten a lot of passive procs, you werent at full HP, or you just decided to afk and be underleveled.

The Highest Noon1 votes

Nope. I was doing fairly well considering I was in lane against him, smacking him all the time, keeping him from farming his Q, then I get creep blocked while moving out of comet, he gets the hit, then presses R and rip me. [sg-ahri-1]

Pika Fox1 votes

W > R isnt enough to 100-0 without items or good amount of passive stacks, especially since W is last to rank up.

The Highest Noon1 votes

A lot of people have been saying that.

Turns out, personal experience says they're wrong.

Pika Fox1 votes

Math says youre wrong. Math > false anecdotal claim

The Highest Noon1 votes

Actual Experience > Math

Pika Fox1 votes

Yeah.... Stay in school. Dude right above here showed how bs the claim of W>R 1shotting you is. It didnt happen unless he was fed out his ass.

Saezio1 votes

LOL. Just show the clip man... You are obviously lying. You can shut us all up by showing one clip of a feeding veigar oneshot someone at 10 mins.

"Actual experience" without proof xD thanks for the laughs mate

Veigar has counterplay, but the amount of effort and skill it takes to play against him is always exponentially higher than the amount it takes to play as him. Outdated champ design.

3TWarrior1 votes

or, you know, dodge 3/4 of his abilities. If you're a high priority target, you shouldn't be anywhere near veigar anyway. if you're a mid-laner, he won't have his AP fantasy for a long time yet

The Highest Noon1 votes

Supposedly. Experience says otherwise.

3TWarrior1 votes

don't stand behind wounded minions, they're a priority target for his Q

if he uses his Q, you can then counter with your own ability practically for free

his Q itself is not very dangerous, but if you are taking repeated hits from it, that is, so instead, focus on defense if you are getting hit often

veigar is mildly annoying, and by mildly annoying, I mean he's literally a champion that if you don't use the basics of the game, you wouldn't beat a different champion either

This is along the same lines of complaining about Twisted Fate, the weakest mage in the game, because he has ONE targeted ability

The Highest Noon1 votes

All of which I already know.

I don't think anyone has ever complained about TF in particular. Not lately, anyway. His ult isn't Global anymore, after all.

The Highest Noon1 votes

Basically. Doesn't matter how you counterplay him neither, since the moment you take even a single hit from any of his abilities, he just presses R and you die lol

3TWarrior2 votes

here's the damage for if he landed his W and R, which would be his most damaging combo possible in that setup

level 5 W = 300 + 100% AP ; level 3 R = 325 + 75% ap up to 650 + 150% AP

that is up to 950 + 250% AP

even at 1000 AP and base magic resist of around 30, that's 2950 damage before resist or 2269 after, that would be enough to kill you, but he also needs 1000 AP, which is very far into the late game

let's assume he does item 3135 70 AP item 3089 120AP item 3285 90 AP and they might have enough for item 3020

this comes to 364 AP before runes or etc and you would need at least 100 stacks to reach 500 AP

if he somehow has 500 AP, this comes to 2350 (which includes luden's) before any effects such as MR. With 2 very expensive items and 1 full item at the least, he could come close to killing you...if you are a marksman in his range for no reason. If you are at base mr of 30, this entire build would reduce you to 3 magic resistance, or 97% damage taken, but again, you would have to be a marksman in veigar's range for no reason for this to happen

even with all circumstances in veigar's favor, that only comes to 2279

#in addition to that, his ultimate scales by missing hp, so it is not always at 650 + 150%

if we factor in that it was his W that hit, they would be at roughly 52% hp, or a 48% increase on his ult with 1050 remaining 325 + 75% (multiplied by 1.48) = 481 + 1.11 AP = 1036 damage

runes renders you dead, but again, this scenario is ridiculous

#here's why: you have no magic resistance, you are the squishiest class in vegar's mid-range, veigar has 100 stacks and 3 items in a meta where games start to end at around 20 minutes

item 3156 reduces this damage by a ton, item 3111 (which is a free item slot...) reduces it even more so
