What if Event Horizon was an expanding stun from the center of the ability?

So people are really angry about the recent (potential) changes to Event Horizon, and I can understand why - Veigar is now incredibly weak against Champions with movement abilities who can escape before the stun goes off, whilst Mobile-less Champions are still screwed and can't really do anything against it.

So I had an idea on how to change Event Horizon in a way where there is a little more "actual counterplay", and will let Veigar fare a bit better against mobile champions whilst not making him the huge threat he is against immobile champions.

My suggestion is this - On initial cast have the stun be based around the center of the ability, and over the abilities lifetime have the stun expand in a ring that reaches the "gates" of the ability (such as it currently does now.)

This I feel could be a potentially good change as it still lets him use the ability effectively against mobile champions (he would not have to wait for them to burn their dashes or leaps, though in exchange he has to trap them in the gate) while making it a bit easier for immobile Champions (who can now safely farm against Veigar now that his big AoE stun can't immediately stun them at the bare edges, meaning he can't stun you then casually use W-Q-R to kill you.)

Sooooo...I have to place the center on them instead of the edge to slap my keyboard and get a kill? Actual counterplay indeed.

This fixes nothing and still allows the instant stun from before.

Has anyone noticed that against mobile champs you can still just drop the box AROUND them and they won't be able to get out? Aside from Ez and Fizz obviously.

My suggestion is similar; have the delayed startup on e as it is planned, but then have the event horizon slowly shrink instead, this would give players a chance to get out of the center before the walls go up but if they got caught then they would have a chance to flash out if they would die otherwise.

Its not like Cho's Q is not the same. Knockups are the same as stuns. You cant do anything and it interrupt powers. His has a HUGE range and hits everyone in a slightly smaller area.

Interesting idea, though I'm not entirely certain on the details of your change. Do the edges of the ability that currently stun, instead are just impassable? Or do they still stun but you want to include Riot's delay effect along with this increasing central stun?

I also had an idea for a Veigar stun change at http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/LYxr4Btw-idea-for-veigar-stun-change , and I would appreciate any feedback you may have.

I think it's an interesting idea. I think Event Horizon should have a small effect even to enemies that just stand in the AoE without hitting the walls. Another idea I had was making the walls crumble inward when the spell ends, slowing everyone inside.

That would be a bit better than what they are currently planning.

Riot making all counterplay mobility-based seems like a bad idea for riot to do in the long term.

I think thats a brilliant idea! I think the main reason they changed it is so you can't always clip people with the edge whilst they are trying to run, this would combat that issue whilst keeping it a solid ability. The only issue is it improves reliability because you always know where you click is going to be stunned instantly, thats the other thing they wanted to avoid.
