Then why am I still so bad at this game?

Because you suck less. The ladder is just various degrees of being bad at the game

when you laugh but know it's true

Logarithmic curve... is my assumption, since that's how learning/mastering something tends to work out.

Ahristocats2 votes

exactly, the difference between d1 and d5 is as high as the difference between plat and bronze same for above

Xandraelle1 votes

Nah. It's the snowball that makes the difference so big.

Because it's really easy to be bad at this game and really, really hard to actually be good at it.

you are above average though.

the feeling of "man im bad at this" is usually an experience when people try to master something and have more potential for becoming better then what they are currently at being aware of your potential but at the same time not being there yet makes you feel like you suck.

so probably the best is to take a break if you get frustrated and keep working on your mistakes and you will improve quickly.

progress in mastery is not a curve for humans but like stairs, step by step.

This exactly! The better you get at something then more inept you realize you are, because you understand the actual skill a top tier player has

Well, you don't have to necessarily be good to reach a certain percentage. You could theoretically be absolutely terrible and still climb due to the sheer luck factor of the Ranking system.

If your cup can hold 100 marbles, and you add one more, you need a bigger cup. If you are Silver 1, and gain just a tiny increase in skill and knowledge, you will be gold soon enough. Doesn't mean your cup is immensely bigger, just big enough for 101 marbles.

I just stack them instead, I don't need a bigger cup.

Your next time would be "That's why you're still in Silver5".

And I disagree. It takes more skill to stack the marbles than buy a new cup!

Lowkey have to try to stay a low elo. i get less rage, dont have to follow meta, and noone reports me for playing whatever wherever most people just dont want to take the time to climb or dont play ranked so while millions of people play half of them might not be so into climbing, or theyre bots. always a possibilityBlitzcrank

Gold is the top 20% of players? man I feel pretty good now for being gold last season (soon to be back in gold, just been goofing around in normals)

Eedat1 votes

Gold was only the top 35% of players last season because the DynamicQ boost was real

well man this is just making me feel so good about myself, even though I know deep down that I still suck

Craft Zeppelin1 votes

it feels strange though, like almost anybody claims they are plat these days. gold is high enough for your average gamer. thats why you get the reward

What is said by the good comments here, and also:

Because we are regularily exposed to the supergood levels of play.

i swear to god, if this was a post from any other server, all the comments would say "because u are trash" etc.

I didn't even think to check what server he was on. That and the OP did kinda already call himself bad, no need to beat a dead horse.

back in season 3 gold was 10% of the top player

I think it's more that riot wants to make it so that ALL players are competitive players. Though sadly, that's not how it works. As you try to give every player of every skill level a competitive angle, you end up blurring the lines between the skill of the players.

Take a game like super smash bros. If you are a casual players, then the disparity between you and a competitive player is very clear, there are a lot of tricks which aren't intuitive to most people which are required to learn to be competitive, things like wavedash/shining, many perfect frame combos, and V-canceling. Riot has tried to make all of their competitive tricks intuitive, meaning it really doesn't take much practice or effort for a bad player to preform well in a competitive environment. This is how you end up with pro players losing to subscribers in a 1v1 on twitch.

If everyone is "good", then "good" become standard

2Charmnot2Charm1 votes

what makes you think being gold-plat= good at the game?

Eedat1 votes

What makes you think that I think I'm good when I clearly just said I'm bad?

2Charmnot2Charm1 votes

I didn't say you think you think you were good at the game.

You asked why you were still bad despite being gold, i was just saying anything below diamond is bad, no one is good.

FTFY. Unless you hit the max rank, that means you still have a lot to learn in the game. Meaning, you're still bad. Thanks.

2Charmnot2Charm1 votes

First of all there is a difference between just being "good" and being challenger.

So no thank you for saying that everyone is bad compared to challenger players sherlock, i really needed your input to know how shit diamonds are compared to challenger players.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

Just like we needed your input on knowing how Diamonds are better than Bronze, Silver, Gold and Plat, right? You used relativity to define being bad and then further want to use it to define being good. Anyone in Gold can be considered "good" at the game because it puts them above average.

If you're better than the average amount of people in a given game, then that means you're good. If you're better than the average amount of "good" people then you're threading along the lines of being great. Beyond there, you're heading into professional territory.

Don't start an argument with a fallacy.

2Charmnot2Charm1 votes

K keep thinking anyone below diamond is "good" at the game if it makes you happy.

Junkο1 votes

I'm D3 and I suck. I feel like I'm somebody who just learned the basics of the game.

The Deckowner1 votes

Because rank is not a direct reflection of one's skill.

Fluffeh1 votes

Now you get to contemplate just how badly everyone below you plays.

Mostro Gallo1 votes

This game takes time, not skill. Anyone one competent enough in regards to general PvP gaming and has a lot of times on their hands can reach plat in this game easily.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

If that's the case, everyone from S1, S2 or S3 should be AT LEAST diamond. Some of them can't even make it past bronze.

Yet you have some people hitting Diamond joining a Moba for the first time in their life -- in just 3 months.

Mostro Gallo1 votes

Anyone one **competent **enough

Brain Errör 4043 votes

You said it takes time, not skill. Being competent isn't common sense. It's a skill you have to learn.
