Most of my friends have taken your advice and no longer play League. This mentality seems REAL healthy for the game! /sarcasm

I'd rather have an easy loss and move on with my day than struggle for a win that makes me feel like shit every step of the way.

If this is how all the higher elo and rank r then there's no such thing as skills then. Just people wanting to climb to see whose better. Higher elo may as well not even trash talk to the lower elo anymore because all u care about is the climb. Not the skills to play the game whether it be macro to micro. At least in the lower elo ppl want to improve.

What's the point of playing if you never try to win a game that actually feels challenging? To me that would just be taking the best type of games away from myself which sounds awful.

No game feels better to win compared to one where you basically had no hope and then made some huge rally instead to end up winning.

Obviously, there is a huge difference between "challenging", and "nearly impossible". I play out hard games, but if 2 or 3 players are soft INTing, I want to play a new game and save 10-15 minutes of my time.

  • His team brought a 3k gold lead down to 0 gold lead between 15:00 and 16:00.
  • The enemy team was relying heavily on Kha'zix to do anything, so just lock him down and focus him and the OP's team wins.

Winning games is more about rotations and map pressure than kills or comp. No matter how fed they are, if you can keep catching people out, you can easily come back from even the worst looking games.

Everybody's won seemingly impossible games. The point is that it's galactically unlikely and not worth trying for.

Sure, gold difference and the tactical/strategic implications of the comps mean nothing. It's all about rotations, good vibes and who has the more rainbows in their hearts. Good thinking. Go to sleep and get sober.

Then you have a poor judgement on what is seemingly impossible. In your mind a 25%-33% chance of winning qualifies as such.

Reixis1 votes

Its not about losing games you FF. Its about the time you save by FFing, and started again on a fresh slate.

To quote myself,

The idea behind FFing at 15 is easy to understand. Think of it like this.

Youre playing a match that goes 0-20 by 15 minutes. All 3 lanes are losing, your jungle is useless, and 2 people are flaming. So right off the bat, your mood is in the dumps. Youre positively miserable, because you got flamers on one side, and your forced to finish a match you know you cant win on the other. The gold lead youve establed is 6,000 gold, WITHOUT taking into consideration the cs youve all lost out on by spending so much time dead. The enemy has a full item each on you, causing them to power spike.

Sure you COULD win. But that win would be hard fought. Itd be an uphill battle, a long game, as you certainly couldnt close it out easily, and youd have to deal with your teammates tilting, and shitty attitudes all match. Youre looking at easily a 40 minute match while you grind out a lead. I dont know about you, but I can scratch out 2 wins in 40 minutes, and id rather do that.

Youre completely wrong about what tilts players more.

Strigina1 votes

If I decided to play a match, I am prepared to play it until the end. I don't see trying to win no matter what as "wasting time", I see it as a part of playing a game. Any game.

If 4 people want to surrender after 20 minutes then good, they can have it. But I will always be the one person who press "no".

Reixis1 votes

That sounds like you are willing to hold 9 players hostage for your own pride. You do what you have to do.

SilentBomber1 votes

9 players as hostages? That is not true.

I play mostly ranked games. You can never hold 9 players as hostages because 5 of them will get the LP of the win anyway. So,that leaves 4 players. For your team to surrender you need 4 votes. So,that leaves 3 players willing to surrender.

I personally join ranked games ONLY TO WIN.Not to try stupid strategies like Garen jungle without jungle items,Jinx top with heal and the list goes on.I prefer to vote to ff when i see that we are gonna lose the game and only when my team truly tried their best for win.

If they joined the game only to fool around and provoke others,it sucks for them as they'll have to stick with their choices until our nexus falls and not until we surrender.

Reixis2 votes

Just made a post on a seperate discussion on surrendering. Im going to post it here for you, as well. Its very in depth, and I think it explains the point as well as it could be.

do you see people surrendering in chess or whatever? no. so why should you surrender on league?

Yes, actually. Its more common than you think, and theres a signal for it too. To surrender in chess, you knock over your own king, and the game ends.

The idea behind FFing is easy to understand. Think of it like this.

Youre looking at easily a 40 minute match while you grind out a lead. I dont know about you, but I can scratch out 2 wins in 40 minutes, and id rather do that.

If youre playing normals, fine, I get it, youre there to practice a champ, have fun with your friends, experiment, etc. But when youre in ranked, you stepped into a highly competitive environment where time is LP, and that 20 minutes you and your duo hold the game hostage could be the difference between ending the day up 40 lp, or down 20. So think of it like this. Team wants to FF, but you wont let them. if its 4 people vs 1, you force them to play an additional 5 minutes at LEAST. If its a duo, or 2 people with NGU attitude, youre forcing people to play UP TO A FULL 45 MINUTES LONGER. Lets be nice, and say every game ends at 30 minutes.

Now you have the potential to play 2 league games an hour. If you get off of work or school, and no life your way through 8 hours of league, you can play 16 matches at 30 minutes a game if theyre held hostage every single game, or 24 games if every single game ends in an FF at 15. So what youre finding, is that assuming every game has NGU's (I cant statistically prove this, but annecdotally, most of them do) youre holding them hostage for anywhere between 120 minutes, to 240 minutes. that is 6-12 matches that they cannot play because people refused to give up.

Add to this that if league matchmaking is working as intended, youre only winning 50-55% of your matches. So of those 16-24, youre winning 8-12, or 3-6 wins theyre denied because you held over the game. Lets assume they/you are actively climbing with a 60-75% winrate. Youre winning 14-18 games. Thats 4/5-9 games that you ARENT winning because you got held up in every one of your last games.

Its about more than just raw numbers too. As I said earlier, when youre far enough behind to consider FFing at 15, youre all tilted, or starting to tilt. Youre pretty much guaranteed to have a flamer on your team, if not more than one. So now you have chat/allchat flooding your screen as what could be literal young children scream at each other and play the blame game. Then you have the enemy team trash talking/laughing at you guys. Youre tilted because you keep getting malphite ulted into a thresh hook, giving you literally no room to escape and your team doesnt comprehend that going in one at a time is a problem. Your team is playing just well enough to keep the game rolling, but have already lost 20 minutes ago. Now youre forced to grind out 30-40 minutes of a game you cant win. Not only that, but negativity negatively impacts your life. Please note, that the article/study specifically states that "Quite simply, no matter how positive of a person you are, negative people can affect your life, unless you take the right precautions." This means that even if "the tilt doesnt get to you", on a deep psychological level, it does, no matter how much you deny it.

Even if you say "well mute chat and carry on", the reality is, the best reason to play a losing match is to practice during the games youre behind on. But you cant farm under these conditions, you certainly cant teamfight, and unless you have a team that meets specific criteria, youre not going to be able to xpeke your way out of the match. So youre not getting meaningful practice, because your team isnt going to cooperate, you have no room to breath or learn (assuming your attitude at that time is letting you), and youre behind with no items to do enough damage to practice your mechanics.

I dont wanna drag this out, and Id bet my left nut youre not reading this anyway, so im going to quickly sum up the post in a TLDR

Pros to Surrendering

You can start another match you have better odds of winning

Less chances of tilting due to general negativity

Youre extending your play time by up to 24 games.

You can start a new match that is more likely to provide you meaningful experience and practice

Its healthier for your brain (see source above)

Larger pool to pull from statistically, meaning higher winrate

Cons to Surrendering

Youre losing out on the ability to practice from behind

Youre losing out on a chance to gain LP

I do not understand this mentality of "press yes since the game is 15-0".

I play games to win and when i want to win i will hardly go 0/6 or something in 8minutes?For real?

Btw,Garen with smite never worked!Especially with 0 jungle items.

Tanerian5 votes

I play to have fun. I will continue playing if I'm having fun. I can have fun while losing horribly. I can fail to have fun in a game I'm winning.

I'm Sorry if you don't enjoy a game you don't think you can win.

Get mad if you want, but by 15 minutes I'm generally not ready to quit any game, unless someone has DC'd. I will vote no. At 25 minutes, with a score of like 32-10, I will probably still want to keep playing too. So I'm going to vote no. If everyone else votes yes, I move onto the next game, even if I wanted to continue playing.

I would literally not have made it to gold this season if I FF'd every time my team wanted to.

Thilmer4 votes

You know, acording to Riot comebacks only happen in 4% of the games.

That means that in certain cases not surrendering it's dumb and mostly a waste of time. In fact, if you are interested in climbing in ranked, surrendering bad games asap will save you a lot of time.

WoodenCreature3 votes

Theres a difference between your team trying to win and your team trying to make you feel bad that u pressed play. "Every game is winnable" cannot even apply in most cases. u cant just come back from 5-10k deficit in a 15 - 20 min game. Even if the enemies with such lead are bad at closing simply forcing a push mid or bot will most likely end the game because if u contest u just die when u have item and a half and your opponents have nearly 3 items. It's just not physically possible to win in such situation. Then again to my first point most ppl that do not ff are not extremely positive or tryharding they just fed and they now do not ff simply because the "You're locked with me so u will suffer too" mentality they have.

Then don't play the game. Because it's never gonna change. People aren't gonna quit just because you don't want to play anymore. Either AFK or don't play. Simple.

Nice straw man. The best suggestion would be for you to only play team games where you're going to commit to playing out the game. If that doesn't appeal to you, play another game. But to come on here and whine about people not wanting to quit because you want them to is childish and will produce zero results.

But it's goddamn pointless to play in some games wasting time when u could be winning the next one everyone thinks u can comeback from anything but in reality it doesn't happen and then again most ppl that do not ff are those who fed and were toxic/negative and they do not ff just to try and make your day worse. Most cases it's not at all about the team spirit and trying to win it's just pure solo q terrorism.

You could also just as easily be losing the next one as well. The problem with the toxic mentality of quitters in LOL is they think their next game will be any better when they already have a loser's attitude. That's why usually people who want to quit are on multi-game losing streaks because their poor attitude carries over from the previous game.

You're also purporting falsehoods by suggesting the majority of people who vote no are just trying to make you suffer. The majority of people who play Ranked want to win, you are reducing their win chance to 0% by surrendering. Some of these people may be in a decisive promo game or close to being demoted and don't want to lose. It takes far too long to get into a game to just idly throw it away just because the odds are in the other team's favor.

As Herm Edwards would say:

"You play to win the game. You don't play to just play it."
