Replace "none" ban with "pass" to another teammate

PopcornBunni··144 votes·20,105 views

As the title says. The game is already a coin flip where 5 bans per side isn't enough. Dropping it to four is intentionally gimping your team's chances of winning before the match even starts. At least if the none was a "pass" it lets your team have a voice in this team game.

I ban none cuz I fear none.

You must play shit like Vladimir.

Was a joke Jesus tough crowd. Also no, I don't play Vladimir, fuck Vladimir, I play Lee Sin.

it happens, just always add "/s" or just flat out say its "satire" or by default we assume you're serious.

Banning none is useful if you want to improve you ability to play against champions who are strong. I.e. you'll never improve you ability to fight a Jax if you ban Jax every game.

OgSc5 votes

But you can just choose not to ban him.

BackdoorPrincess6 votes

Then ban someone else? Play blind pick? Just because you want to have one in your game doesn't mean you team does lmao, especially when it's a champ that is hard to completely shut out and even when behind can counterstrike flash your adc and blow them up mid-late

I wish none was just removed. I always feel a hatred towards the person that uses it cause there are plenty of things to ban that no one wants to deal with.

What if that person wants to be able to handle any situation?

bans are a crutch for bad balance and low skill anyways

you're totally right, that's why the pros never use bans.

You've missed my point entirely

bans exist because poor balance puts things in S tier, and has outdated concepts like hard counters and whatnot

bans are therefore a shitty excuse to not fix champs

Rhaokjarr5 votes

i play adc. i suck at laning against draven and draven alone. my playstyle just sucks against him. i can play draven OK. but id rather just ban him.

essentially what youre saying is. theres not a single champ that youve played in your ranked gam- oh...... you havent even played ranked yet.... ok.

Why not, though? Just start banning singed instead of none, who knows, they might have a singed otp, it's a rare pick so if your teammate will want to play him he will probably declare it.

How bout I just ban out my adc or mid laner? they're the ones who cry on the forums about everything and make every other class main have a shitty time so that lux can have a 20 second cooldown on her ult while jhin gets to afk right click

I sincirely hope you are baiting.

BackdoorPrincess2 votes

Silver 3, all I see is Jayce and Teemo top, both of which are super mobile with scaling auto's and pretty hard poke, if adc's are your problem you're playing those champs wrong, if lux ult is an issue then use that mobility to not get snared boiiii

Pika Fox16 votes

Banning none is a legitimate option. If i dont want my ban tp ban anyone, i certainly dont want you to ban someone.

Hot LeBlanc Yuri31 votes

Explain why please, I honestly dont get this. For me it looks like you just want to be very special.

Pika Fox12 votes

A none ban leaves more options open for me to pick into the opponent, and more options for the opponent to pick that i feel comfortable picking into.

Ontop of that, you never get better against a champion if all you do is ban it. Yas is easy to deal with.... But people ban him instead of learning.

Bans are only ever useful if theyre targetted at a specific player (which you cant do until high diamond solo queue), or used to take out a counterpick to your intended pick. For someone who can play multiple champions proficiently, its not a good idea to ban the counter of your pick if you can also play that.

No it isn't, but it is idiotic, excuse my language, but with 144 champs in the game there are sure to exist champions that you have a trash winrate against and you should ban them in ranked to increase your chances to win.

Also, this is obviously for ranked only, so you won't be affected either way since you seem to not have played the queue for 3 seasons. If you do play ranked in an alternate account you can link that here and I will tell you what you need to ban for the benefit of your ranked teams.

or be willing to face them at their best to improve yourself as a player

nothing in the main post specified ranked only, so everyone assumes you include norms, TT, and any other mode that has bans

Saezio5 votes

Well, in normals IDGAF cause nothing is at stake except for pride. But in ranked not wanting to at least ban someone for your team's sake (just ask if anyone wants something specific banned) seems awfully close to Griefing. That is at least to me. Maybe you think helping your team have an easier pick/ban phase or potentially even a better game is a bad thing.

IP Masquerena1 votes

"Nothing is at stake"

Do you fucking know how many games that mentality lost?

"It's just normal, I don't need to try hard" - 0-2-0 Rammus at 20 mins.

You can't learn too many match-ups in normal games because of that bull mentality. Normals are full of people who either try to learn new champs (So nothing to learn from winning that match-up) or players with that bull mentality (So again, nothing to learn from that match-up) or the Zed/Lee/Yasuo mains who pick their best champ and play the match like it's a win or die situation.

I legit never saw Orianna, Corky, Malzahar or A-Sol in normals unless it was me or a friend trying them out, but I see them (except A-Sol, but even he shows his tail once in a while) in ranked games.

I have a hard time dealing with Orianna, but I never see her in normals so I can't practice that match-up there, yet by your logic I should ban her because otherwise I gimp my team, so I wouldn't be able to practice the match-up there either.

The problem is exactly that "no need to try, it's just a normal game" which is why people ban none. If they could freely practice that match-up in normals instead of either getting a free win or a free loss, depending on which side gets the more monkeys with that bull mentality, no-one would ban "none", or at least, a lot less people would do it. But you can't practice in normals unless said match-up is vs Zed or Yasuo.

So fix that trash mentality first then you will see less people not choosing a ban.

Saezio2 votes

So then don't ban orianna in ranked, ask people if they need the ban. Don't ban "none" that's wanting to lose.

Jonesybones3 votes

its not that idiotic. its pretty logical. in high diamond your lp gains are very small. and you play against the same players. So you ban their pick instead of the champ you don't like which anyone below diamond does.

The only way to get better at dealing with a champion is to play against that champion.

HeeroTX5 votes

It's idiotic. Bans exist in pro-play because there's champs that your team will want off the table. Here's two reasons to ban champs in elo below diamond:

  1. Champ is a direct counterpick to your preferred champion (only reason to not do this is if you are last pick)
  2. X champ is known to be difficult to deal with

9 times out of 10, you should at MINIMUM ban for #2 for one simple reason: you're playing with 4 randos I don't care if you think you can beat any champion in the game straight up, are you certain you can beat ANY champ in the game when down 2-3 levels and a full item? I play bot lane (ADC & sup) but I often ban mids or jgs, why? BECAUSE I GET A TON OF TEAMMATES THAT CAN'T HANDLE CERTAIN CHAMPS. Hell, that's why a lot of non-tops ban Nasus in low elo. As thrilling as it is trying to work on my game against a fed Nasus with 500 stacks its much safer and easier to give yourself the peace of mind of not worrying about it in the first place.

I have enough issues with mid and top being 0/5 by 15 mins even WITH a ban.

Jonesybones1 votes

you don't pay attention to the bans or the players do you? they ban the enemy teams strongest picks. they are not champion specific. I was talking about high diamond. It is common to ban that players strongest pick in high diamond. This not hard to understand.

Also blaming your teammates is a very stuck in low elo thing to do. You can climb to diamond soloq by improving self performance.

HeeroTX2 votes

Diamond (and above, by current distribution) is the top ~2.35% of players playing League of Legends. To be blunt, I am not going to get to Diamond, ever. I'm ok with that, I ACCEPT that If I wanted to commit myself to trying to climb League I'd probably peak in Gold to low Plat. (for a mix of reasons) But I play League for fun and I really want COMPETITIVE games, period. If 90% of my games are just totally fair "either side could win" and I never go above Silver in RANK, I'd be happy.

I am NOT someone that's gonna go 50-1-0 and carry a bunch of trolls and feeders out of Bronze. So if banning Yasuo means I don't have to deal with some edge-lord 1v5'ing my team just because some other idiot couldn't help feeding him a half dozen kills during lane phase, then yeah, that's what is best FOR THE TEAM. (Note: I NEVER (intentionally) ban a champ my team hovers/wants to play even if it's a "power" pick and the person who wants it is LAST pick)

If you want to practice so much, then why not ban the EASIEST matchup for your preferred champ so that you can force yourself into a disadvantageous game or just ban something like Anivia that almost no one plays.

Saezio10 votes

In ranked, trying to intentionally have a worse chance of winning to improve as a player seems like Griefing to me. This is personal opinion obviously. I can respect that in normals. But not ranked. Not wanting ANY champ to be banned just to prove a point seems just stubborn, why not let one of your allies pick one less cancerous matchup for them at least?

Z3Sleeper5 votes

Dw that's not a personal opinion, that's just a fact.

Intentionally lowering your team's chance to win is the definition of griefing.

Saezio4 votes

yeah but I can tolerate doing poser things like ban "none" in normals with the excuse you want to improve. Not in ranked though.

floo4 votes

Even if Yas is easy to deal with for you, why would you want to force it upon other people, who do not want to play against him? If you leave him open for the sake of wanting others to become better against him, it doesn't do you any good to leave him open for yourself. You're just putting yourself at a disadvantage, because others might not know how to play against him in this game, and lost because of that.

Pika Fox1 votes

Sucks to be them. If theyre having difficulties with yas, then they wont climb much to begin with.

floo3 votes

What i'm saying is, you're going to lose the same game. It certainly won't help you, to put your teammates at a disadvantage with an attitude like this. And what does one thing even have to do with the other? If you constantly ban your biggest threat, it gives you better chances to win?

Pika Fox1 votes

Doesnt matter if i lose this individual game because of someone else's performance, what matters is my performance over the long term. Feeding team mates mean nothing.

floo2 votes

Your approach is still counterintuitive on so many levels. Consider playing together with your team, not against them. You are depending on them in this game, you can't win every game alone.

Last time an ally banned none, he played Kata vs Kass and couldn't do shit the whole game, asking Kass "why did you pick Kass :'(" lol And explaining the reason he was dying so much was "I was counter picked"...

Packun Flower13 votes

Using the none ban option should be reportable for assisting enemy team.

BackdoorPrincess3 votes

Just make it force a dodge, if you can't click one champ out of the 5-10 that your team either have selected or say they'll counterpick with you prolly don't make great teamfight decisions either

HopeStartsWithU4 votes

What's with people that always want to have all bans used??? I always ban malzahar on mid or renekton/trynda on top, not something that is insanely broken on either lane. So what would ANY of my teammates benefit from that Malzahar ban? It wouldn't change shit in terms of winrate.

LightIsMyPath12 votes

If i play ADC and you ban malz, thank you. You just spared me a super early qss. If I am mid and you ban tryndamere, thank you. You just spared a super pressures side lane that keeps us fromsieging. Every ban has something positive, as long as you use it
