lyte on new automated punishments

"Hey everyone,

We've just started a test of the Instant Feedback System on the PBE.

During this first test, player reports help the system recognize and punish instances of verbal harassment like homophobia, racism, sexism, excessive abuse and death threats immediately. We're starting with these exceptionally negative expressions because we already know the community emphatically rejects this kind of behavior.

If a player receives enough valid reports to trigger the system, within 15 minutes, the system will examine the case and determine whether the reported player behaved in a manner that should be punished. If confirmed, we email the player with the relevant chat logs and info about the appropriate punishment he or she will receive.

This is the first step in a plan for a new cohesive player behavior experience in League of Legends, and we’ll be talking more about this vision this month including how players can engage with the systems and contribute to making the community a better place."

My only concerns are

  1. again its automated, meaning troll reports could affect you (he states if you get enough reports itll punish you right away)

so what happens if you arent toxic, and just had a bad game, and you entire team reports you "for being bad" under the "verbal abuse" section because most troll reports know that is the one most likely to get you banned/punished

  1. and what about being negative toxic TWORD YOURSELF

IE "fuck I didnt mean to ult" "DAMN IT I DIED" "FUCK" "god fucking damn it I missed my Q"

how can an automated system tell the difference between ebing toxic to your team and yourself

  1. whats going to be considered negative attitude/toxic

Ive had plenty of games Im sure i got reported for saying "please stop feeding play safe now"

Then I try and tell my mid or top what they are doing and how to avoid dying and they flame me saying im toxic and should go kill myself ect

  1. lyte said tribunal might be coming bakc?!?!? IS THIS CONFIRMED???!?!?!?! (read his added posts on the pbe thread or on SS@20)

edit: also RIP to jokingly called people "mah niggas" or some mild "sexist/racist/homophobic" jokes

Now I cant say "ggfgt" to my friend whenever I play against them and beat them

nor can I comment on dat ashe

frostbotoy irelia or DJsonas booty ;c

If people are reporting you for cursing, it doesn't matter if it was directed at yourself. Can you run around cursing at yourself in a gradeschool? No, they do not care if you're cursing at the kids or at nothing, you can't do it.

Troll reports are not as rampant as people claim, and even if it is a troll report, it's not going to matter most of the time because the automated system scans the chat log; it's not as dumb as you think it is.

The cliff notes:

  • The system only makes 1 mistake per 6000 reviews. They only reviewed situations that were not clear-cut, so the exact number is lower than that. (For comparison, he states that most scientific reports hold their studies to a 5% error margin, Riot is holding their system to 0.1% error margin, and the new system has a 0.016% error margin)
  • You're 2.5 times more likely to be honored than reported while playing League. (Now think how long ago the last time you were honored was.)
  • Over "tens of thousands" of cases where people think they've been banned for report spam, Lyte's only seen 1 or 2 cases where that was true.
  • The report system validates reports, so if someone has a habit of falsely reporting their reports don't matter to the system.

I don't think you'll have anything to worry about unless you're actually in the wrong.
