As a former (and in riots eyes) a current "toxic" player...
MAJOR UPDATE: http://ask.fm/RiotLyte/answer/131867181506 Lyte just back peddled hardcore... At least for once the community got riot to listen!
Im still sort of upset that those players who have had bans are still getting "double jeopardy-ed" in this, but the majority of the players were chat or ranked restricted players (or low prio Q's from hardware issues) and we still get our rewards YAY
UPDATE 08/21/2015: I know my numbers aren't true statistical numbers the numbers I use in reason 2 (75/95%) are my own personal guess on the figures that riot would lose in terms of playerbase NOT ACTUAL CURRENT NUMBERS OR PROVEN NUMBERS They are my own personal guesses and figures please keep that in mind
Removing season rewards for anyone who has ever been punished is absurd.
Ten reasons this is complete BS and with general thoughts on each reason
- Its double jeopardy -Anyone who has been punished did their time and some(if not most) improved and are positive now.
- From a money making standpoint riot will lose nearly 75% of its playerbase and nearly 95% of its paying playerbase and LC$ can and probably no longer will exsist (this is a long one with no TLDR BE WARNED)
Ok let me break this down,
lyte wants a positive friendly environment and his method is remove season rewards for anyone who has ever been punished. In his head sure it seems like a decent idea but as a company this will only hurt them and heres why:
first off 75% of Leagues player base WILL QUIT Nobody (new or veteran) wants to play a game where they have to worry so much about being punished and if they do they get no rewards even if they reform. And for new players it's even worse where riot is throwing out punishments based on emotional response to true toxic players and trolls
example: a gold smurf plays a level 10 game his teammate a level 2 just downloaded yesterday and is undoubtedly bad at the game the gold smurf is an asshole and continually will tell the level 2 "You fucking noob fucking uninstall cancer POS fucking faggot nigger shit"
The level two doesnt even know about the mute button yet and at first says "Woah man why are you so mean Im new im trying my best :/"
The level 10 smurf replies "FUCK YOU NOOB FUCKING SHIT TIER FAGGOT IM GOLD SMURF FUCKING AFK SO I CAN WIN THIS YOU FEEDING SHIT FUCK NIGGER"
the level 2 at this point is very offended and defends himself with "you know what man FUCK YOU? what the fuck did I do to you you fucking douche bag? Im new at this fucking game give me a fucking break you fucking asshole"
At this point the level two is told by one member of his team that there is a mute button and he can report the smurf so he mutes and reports the dude in the end game screen, however shortly after that game (under the new immediate auto punishment system) he gets a 15 game chat restriction, because 3/4 of his team reported him (and some of the enemy team because the smurf asked for reports)
at this point he feels like "what the fuck did I do? he was coming at me harsh? and im being punished?" Us veteran players have some understanding that riot says its not ok to defend ourselve (which in BS) and we should just mute and report them, however even the best of us let out an emotional response... and riot is punishing that.. that seems wrong to me..
Now onto the second part 75% of the player base WILL quit and 95%of paying players will leave
This one is a bit shorter: when you run a new player experience like that^ 50% of you player base (new players) will end up quitting or not staying long enough in the game (which is about 60% of paying (or would pay) players) next up leaves anyone whos ever been punished and is sick of riots bullshit on punishments: 25% of the remaining 50% of veteran 30+ players will leave. which is about 35% of paying players
the math might be off but it stands true
now how does this all tie into LC$ not being able to be a thing anymore?
Well under riots new stance on toxicity Pro level teams will most likely be held up to a standard of no FOUL LANGUAGE OR TOXIC LANGUAGE EVER lest the players who watch LCS call out hypocracy for riot letting pros be sortof toxic and anyone who was on a team that won LCS who has ever been punished for being toxic will have to refund their rewards (the cash rewards)
and on top of that, whats to stop lyte from saying ANYONE WHOSE EVER BEEN PUNISHED NEVER GETS REWARDS EVER AND ANY REWARDS THEY GET WILL BE REVOKED...
Just saying ....
back to reasons why it absurd
-
So harsh for automated punishments? -if your going to double jeopardy everyone: then each case should be looked into for context and emotional responses for true toxic behaviour every time Ive been punished for being "toxic" it was an emotional response to a troll (after a 2week ban I had received in which I actually WAS toxic calling people niggers faggots ect." which was after the end of s2)
-
You dont do enough to show that the bullshit players put up with in ranked when it comes to other players is even being handled -the only punishment focus I see if toxicity I dont see anything on afks and loss prevention when faced with or against one I dont see riot doing anything about punishing players who do badly in a game intentionally (IE karma jungle) I dont see anything on intentional feeders? I dont see anything on spammers or those annoying adds that message you a virus link for free rp I dont see matchmaking reform or team builder for ranked or decent balance (the new skarner has to wait till monday to be nerfed? you cant just disable him?) The list goes on and on about stuff that could be fixed to prevent people from freaking out or give them hope that riot actually does something..
-
speaking of riot doing something I have not seen lyte active AT ALL on the forums only on his personal ASK.fm Finding out that nearly half the player base wont get season rewards from an ask.fm and not an official riot post on the main page? thats reason enough to scrap the idea if you cant tell us properly
-
Riot punishes neutral players aswell
- as a neutral player myself who isnt toxic or positive anymore
I find I get can easily get reported and banned for saying simple things like "please stop feeding sigh" or "why the fuck did you do that..?" and ive been punished for it and had quit the game for 3-4 months in the most recent case (but I only came back so I could get silver and at least keep my silver border if I ever came back post season 5)
- besides the double jeopardy issue there are TWO WAYS TO PREVENT TOXIC PLAYERS FROM EVEN BOTHERING ANYONE
the language filter and the mute button
except lyte hates telling players to use those damn things he'd rather find the root cause of toxic play which in his case is three types of people 1-the true toxic assholes (one of which used to be me) who call people niggers wetbacks scumbags cancer faggots ect and are just in general assholes 2-the emotional response players: the players who feel the need to defend themself against the true assholes and get emotionally angry and use a few choice words and feel regret about using those later; they just felt like they were personally targeted and shouldnt have to just sit there and deal with it (these players could be fixed by TELLING THEM ABOUT THE DAMN LANGUAGE FILTER AND MUTE BUTTON) Nothing to emotionally respond to? then they arent and issue 3- the neutral player: (me currently) The player who just plays the game mostly ranked and plays to win, or plays casually isnt very positive but more of a realist (not negative either) he will be the type of person to say "sigh bots feeding gg surrender at 20pls so we can move onto the next game) they will be the type to point out others mistakes (often overlooking their own) in order to try and help them realize what the fuck they are doing so they can win They often win games but when losing get reported for verbal abuse or negative attitude by the salty teammates who he blames (and often are the cause) of a lost game these players generally use the mute button and try to focus on the game
- Whats considered toxic is always changing and cultures are different So what lytes doing is punishing anybody who has ever been toxic and been banned or punished
Now the one wrong reason (aside again from double jeopardy) is that the definition of toxic is changing
two examples: one different cultures : I watched a video about where lyte was going on about the root of toxic behavior and brought up a point that the community determines whats toxic, and that in NA "silver trash" wasnt toxic but in korea and china "silver trash" was highly toxic
Meaning if somebody in NA says "silver trash" they arent being toxic, but in china/korea they are, so shouldnt the same rules apply? its toxic to somebody isnt it?
second definition of toxic is changing: This comes from a forum post where somebody once told me that if somebody told him to go pull a robin williams before he died it wouldnt be deemed toxic but now if somebody did it would likely be reported and banned. and I remember here on the boards a popular meme would be the "aww shit nigga" meme with the party hat anime character and his hands in the air, that was never seen as toxic before but nowadays it is
and vice versa: I remember when smack talking (even friendly) the enemy team stuff like "run away now enemy mid laner im coming to kill you ;)" whenever you played jungle was toxic but now its not
this means that anyone punished for something that used to be toxic and isnt now is being punished for something that is no longer toxic...
-
this wont help anything your punishing players who have already been punished? so it doesnt matter if they reformed? they still get punished and labelled a rule breaker even if they are reformed now?
-
its just plain absurd
It makes no sense its stupid and lyte is an idiot IMO
EDIT: see this post here :http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/5w7EhMVk-all-my-friends-have-quit
for why this is a bad idea and will make most new players quit the game
