PSA: Riot YOU NEED to add loss prevented for afks

Arcade Andrew··26 votes·2,374 views

The title says it all, I just lost a game because 7/0 fizz decided to quit for some reason, we were winning then boom "fizz disconnected"

And that got me demoted to bronze 3, I wouldnt have been demoted had he stayed in the game and won AND SHIT I wouldnt have been that mad had we lost but at least nobody afked, but losing a game because someone leaves SHOULD NOT BE A THING

EDIT: the loss prevention system would be the same system Riot uses when their servers have an issue out of players control (just like an afk)

so dont come in here saying "it can be abused" when leavers get banned daily

and when ive had game in the past where nobody in the game had server lag issues but LP was activated and we didnt get a win even though nobody left

EDIT NUMBER TWO:

All I am seeing in here is "muh abuse" replies about how people could abuse this

so let me break it down

  1. you are lets say silver 1 in your series
  2. you win 2 and have one more game to win until you get gold
  3. you decide youll duo with somebody who's fine with leaving just in case the game goes badly
  4. your game goes badly your friend leaves nobody wins or loses, but your friend gets lower priority Q (Assuming hes left at least one game in any of his past league career meaning the warning is no longer valid) and he gets reported for leaving by everyone but his partner
  5. you play again waiting for the Q and get matched and have a bad team again, he leaves gets reported by everyone ect. you guys decide to take a break because you dont want to many leaves in one day
  6. your partner logs on to find theyve been ranked restricted for 50+ games of normal draft wins
  7. you decide eh screw it im 2/0 I can afford 2 losses and win one to get gold
  8. you lose the next three games and dont make it to gold

With this example YOU CAN SEE this system cant exactly be abused, because players get PUNISHED HARSHLY for leaving and in the end you may have cheated yourself out of 1-2 games but itll still be on you to climb the ranked ladder

also to even further enforce not leaving perhaps you could get warned if your duo partner leaves games, IE if you duo with somebody who leaves you get warned and punished right along side them if there is evidence for it

That wouldn't really be fair if one person could leave and the entire game would be a loss forgiven. If the other team is winning really badly, someone on your team could just leave and make the game not matter.

Imagine duo queuing and being in your series and asking your friend to leave if you're losing really badly. He gets a leaver penalty, you don't have to eat the loss. The other team doesn't get their deserved win.

But we dont need to worry about this because ok sure maybe you can leave 1 or 2 games SURE you get low priority Q and some warnings, but if you kept leaving games youd eventually get ranked restricted and banned

Yeah, but it doesn't matter if you can't do it "all the time" when certain games are weighted. Let's say you're in your gold 1 to plat 5 series. You play 2 games alone, and go 1-1. Now you invite a friend. If the game looks bad, they leave. if it doesn't, they stay there. All of a sudden, this player has extra chances to get to plat. And it's VERY hard to drop back to gold from plat (you need to be silver 1 / gold 5 elo).

This is an extremely easy fix: duos don't get protection if their partner drops.

thePandev1 votes

Flame player on your team that was doing horribly causing him to leave game.

Extremely flawed idea, sorry.

Zenthon Prime4 votes

Get reported for flaming. Banned. Have a nice day.

Ultimately, this is still a net gain, because now afk trolling isn't nearly as effective and flamers can be muted.

thePandev2 votes

Said it once before. Reports can take months to take place. Think of how many times that player can do the same thing over and over again.

It wouldn't really be fair to punish people for duo queueing. Internet outages do happen, and just because it happens to my friend doesn't mean I should be punished for it while the rest of my team gets forgiveness. You would be punishing the majority of duoqueuers for things a few people might do.

I simply think the system works best as-is. Sure, it's really dumb when you lose because someone dced. That being said, one time I dced (internet outage) when I was 11-0 and my entire team was feeding. Sure, it's rare that things like that happen, but you can't just assume that a person leaving cost their team the game. I have won 4v5s before and lost 5v4s when someone that wasn't doing much (like a bad urgot) left the game. Right now, everyone basically suffers the same from DCers over time. You might get an unlucky string, but everyone has to deal with it. Discouraging people from duo-queueing just because a few people might ruin it isn't a solution to that.

quadruple the loss on the person who ditches, 1/4 the loss on the people who stay, and i guarantee you nobody will

The leaving penalty is already harsh and takes effect way faster then report bans.

is it

typing "i agree" is so harsh

Sammystorm1 votes

Yes it is. You get hit with low priority queue after 1 or 2 games. As far as I can tell low priority queue doesn't scale down for months. So once you hit 20 minute low priority queue you get hit with another one months later. Report bans can take months to go in effect. Low priority queues take affect right after the incident.

Wouldn't loss forgiven only be granted to the team losing with the DC/AFK, while the other team gets the win? Also to prevent said abuses couldn't they make it where the person leaving/afking lose more LP than a regular loss to prevent said actions.

But seriously, I agree that if a player never connects to the game it should be loss prevented and the afk should be treated as if they dodged.

Zmuecat4 votes

I know you a joking, but I'm always astounded that this is a defense used to prevent something from being implemented. For this specific thing (AFKs/leaver loss prevention) it's always "But what if someone bullies others and make someone leave the game?" Well the person who would leave SHOULD be reported for leaving. The person(s) who bullies others SHOULD be reported. Both of these things SHOULD result in the wrong parties being dealt with.

It seems like damn near half the people on this forum are afraid of people abusing a system, even if there's a system in place.

Arcade Andrew1 votes

not to mention the fact that if you leave you get placed in lower priority Q and eventually banned

Davy Crockett2 votes

So we implement a tribunal system.

Do you realize that reports can take months to actually even be read? So in that span, you can easily make 100 players leave a game for a loss prevented.

1 for 100 is sort of absurd.

Not to mention that 80% of people report when they are pissed off. I wouldn't be mad if I got a free loss prevented in ranked. So why would I report someone? The enemy team won't give a shit either.

And it's not being afraid. It's being realistic. Simple.

SIayton3 votes

I really think this should be true atleast for when a person is AFK right from the start or didn't connect. I think its crazy ranked games will start with a player not connected.

Sp00ky Senpai3 votes

I don't agree with the abuse argument. All you need to do is add that its the non AFK members on the team that had an AFK that get the loss prevention. If you're the AFK member of your team then you should get the loss regardless of the reason for it. Yes it sucks when it actually isn't your fault but its necessary to prevent other people form abusing it. If its only this one time than its not like your going to get banned from League for it after all.

I feel the possibility of abuse is far less than people think considering the person intentionally going AFK still gets a punishment for it. I mean what? I'm going to convince a guy to get a mark on there account so we don't lose this one game every time i'm about to lose?

Just make it so the winning teams victory isn't subtracted and that its only the non AFK members of the 4v5 that get a game loss. If it does get abused then put in a 1 or 2 loss prevention's per week clause. I just cant see this being abused as much as people think it will be and i don't think those cases of abuse out way the benefits of doing it.

Akesgeroth2 votes

Said it before: I don't know why, after YEARS, LoL still doesn't have a system similar to DotA 2's. Their system has shown itself to be very difficult to abuse so far.

Daedalus8711 votes

But then I have dou buddy's smurf AFK so I don't lose LP.

Or at least that's what Riot thinks will happen.

elliottjared1 votes

it shouldnt be a loss prevented but it should be a reduced elo loss

Occams Raiser1 votes

Riot doesn't give a shit. In reality the way they made the system, they would have to do something to the winners to match the losers. There must be a balance and AFK's happen so much it would screw with their system. To prevent LP loss on one side, they have to take it from the winners too. When the beat a team where they have a man advantage, the winner doesn't typically give a shit. If you told them they were going to lose some LP due to the fact that they only beat a team of four, the dishonorable would go ape shit.

"I want all my LP. I won fair and squarish."

yukonl1 votes

If the AFK that left is queued with other team mates (meaning they could have coordinated this), then all of them lose LP (the AFK of course loses more LP), while the other innocent players are given loss forgiven.

Though, maybe it'd be too much by giving a loss forgiven at the moment and it might be better by halving their LP loss / not letting it count for series (can only happen once per series).

C9 Tekniqz1 votes

I mean I feel like this would be abused like someone else stated below me. However I feel like if someones afk for the majority of the game, like lets say 20 minutes in a 26 minute game. In that case you should get loss prevented. That way you can't have someone leave to save you last minute. But if it was a legit 4v5 all game long you don't get penalized for it. Like lets say you have Yasuo mid who thinks hes billy bad ass, and he gets fbed and instantly leaves you don't lose the game from it. Plus the other team still gets a win for the game keeps it fair.

Sammystorm1 votes

I don't understand why people are trying to dish out even harsher penalties for afk's. It is already harsh. People being an asshat is more of a problem now anyways because of the extended maintenance on the tribunal

Saigo no hibana1 votes

This idea has been had many times before. The abuse cases make a need for harsh punishment which you can't have unless riot magically invents a way to determine if leaving was intentional. If your ISP is doing maintenance or some other such silly thing like cable companies replacing equipment you can't help but disconnect. Allowing for all that variance in service quality(not to mention irl shit forcing you to leave) means the leaver penalties have to be lax to avoid screwing over people who aren't being abusive. Adding this would also encourage people harrasing a teammate who was bad to try to get them to leave. Yes they can just mute them, but the experience that causes the muting should be prevented as welll.

Slamurai Jack1 votes

I realize that the idea that it could be abused has been harped on again and again, but I want to approach it from a slightly different angle. If Riot were to implement a system where you could get loss prevented if you have an afk, it would only serve to demoralize people further. It wouldn't even have to take bullying. I guarantee that, if such a system were in place, a standard would eventually develop where players that do really badly would be expected to afk, for the good of the team. You simply cannot give players a possible way out of a loss in a way that is entirely out of their control.

Every moment that someone that started the game 0/3 and yet doesn't go afk would destroy team morale, slowly eliminating any chance to win those players may have had. The nagging thought would always be in the back of peoples minds "If only this feeding (Yasuo/Riven/Vayne) would go afk, then we wouldn't lose and I'd still be in promos." People will often honestly be too distracted with that thought to actually try to play and win the game. I can hear "GG Fkin Feeder Yas/Riv/Vayne won't afk." 10 minutes into the game already.

I just disagree entirely, if you leave you run the risk of leaverbuster hammering you. And it does it right away. I had a game a week ago that I couldn't connect to, FINALLY got in after about 7 minutes, and STILL got the leaverbuster "I agree" screen. You could maybe do it once or twice but after that you're getting ranked restricted. There is just no way that new meta would be to leave when you're losing. If anything, it might happen a bit when it's first implemented, but the people who actually leave would quickly be weeded out. Just my opinion.

Silents4291 votes

The ignorance of the system they have in place is astounding right now. I am baffled you think it works this way.

But yeah. It can and will be abused, and making a post and replying during a fit of rage doesn't make a difference to us.

siilentdeath1 votes

i am for only increasing the penalty for going afk in ranked games only.

Rand0mH3r0X1 votes

A loss is a loss. I'm really sorry for the AFK.

Perhaps adding a scaling multiplier of IP loss for ranked games, regardless if the AFK happens in normal, dominion, ARAM, or ranked, would really change attitudes towards AFK'ing? I would hope that this forces players not to AFK a normal game to troll because their punishment for AFK'ing in a ranked game is increased because of the amount of times the player AFK's in other game modes.

DrNova1 votes

Loss forgiven is to much usually, unless its a VERY early afk and never comes back. There should be at least lowered LP losses depending how long the afk was and state of the game before. If you were getting stomped already, its likely you woulda lost anyways. But in a close game or a winning game yeah deserve some leniency.

Also AFK's shouldnt get this bonus, naturally. Or Duo's if one of the pair afk's.
